I'm attempting to diagnose daughters 2012 . Has a clunk, and intermittently, mostly driver side while turning, but can "feel" it when it clunks in foot on floor.. I've checked everything, ball joints, tie rods, link pins, sway bar bushings, control arm bushings, strut mounts, etc..
I've never had so much trouble with 4 new nuts and bolts in my life! The Moog bolts are about 1/2 mm too long and the passenger side top bolt wouldn't go into the hole. I ended up having to Dremmel the hole a bit. The driver's side installed with no issues. Steering/cornering seems stiffer, but the noise still persists when I go over multiple little bumps. Ball joint? A arm bushings? Struts?
Thanks for the vid. Got my parts today to do both sides. Are they raw steel or should I paint them before hand. Car will be in MI the rest of its life or should I just put them on and send it? Thanks
I was just experiencing same symptoms on 12 Malibu n I checked suspension and couldn’t believe plastic sway bar links! That’s so cheap of GM can’t believe it
Could ya get those nuts loosened with a impact gun i couldn't get the damn things off with a wrench. I need em replaced and couple hundred on a decent impaxt is cheaper than most shops labor cost plus having a impact gun will always be nice working on stuff
My brother and I went for it there a bitch to get off but when you get it done it’s a relief. I would try putting two wrenches together first before you do that cause the other wrench adds more pressure for a better grip. If that doesn’t work then I would definitely try the impact just go slowly cause the sway bar will probably kick back and hit you in the head if not careful.
Blahahahahaha You are not kidding either... I have made so many videos on repairs, it is crazy! This thing just continues to give me issues no matter what I fix.
Ive replaced the transmission and the defrost quit working but i rigged a fix with out tearing out the dash. Also blew the coolant hose above the turbo. Now i have the weirdest suspension issue it just wants to float all over the road wont stay straight. I replaced the front control arms cuz the bushings were bad and the rear shocks didnt help the problem, im in the process of changing, front struts with new springs, sway bar end links, rear control arms and watts link. Ti rods feel fine to me. Im really not sure what it could be beyond that.
If the rubber is ripped replace its get pretty bad during the winter and you will hear it a lot I've never seen plastic sway bar link till replaced the suspension on my car I do suggest if you hit over 170k miles on the car have them replaced.
Did the noise start before or after you installed lowering springs? My 2012 doesn't make any noise after 70k miles. Also did it improve the handling at all? My 2LT already has firm suspension, but still lol
I agree. My 2012 Cruze LS has one of the stiffest suspensions out of all the cars I've owned (I wish my Mazda 3 was the same). That said, I did this upgrade to hopefully resolve an issue. I noticed handling improved in general. I didn't really test it out because the noise I was hearing has persisted after this upgrade. I may have to take the car to a garage to diagnose the noise because I can't find anything loose or worn when the car is on the lift.
Im having ghe weirdest handling issue with mine wants to be all over the road took it to the shop they couldn't figure it everything seemed tight they said maybe new rear shocks would help did that no change really, wondering if the front struts maybe bad, got the moog sway bar links i'll replace at the same time. I hoping my lower arm and knuckles arent bent, besides tge struts and sway bar link i cant think what could cause the problem and i cant afford to just start throwing parts at it knucks and arms aint too cheap
@@ChadWilliamsFixesAll they said they seemed pretty solid but idk. Think im gonna replace front struts with the blisten b8s, In and outer tie rods, lower control arms with ball joints and bushings, stabilizer links, rear lateral links and watts link, that should make it ride like new for less than 800 and that's not too terrible, if i still got problems i'll replace the knuckles and wheel bearings
@@ChadWilliamsFixesAll actually filmed my lower control arm bushings (video on my channel) lot of free play while turning the wheel, i am betting that is my problem. Have a look at the video lmk your opinion
Had to replace the passenger side one on my Sonic and wow it was a pain... I ended up just slapping another OEM one on for a quick fix but its held.. The seem to break in the bearing area... mine wouldnt loosen on the bottom and would just spin so the old sawzall to the rescue... If anyone is putting lowering springs on the Sonic or Cruze seeing you are going to have it all off just order these Moog ones and replace them right away or you will be doing it not long after....
@@ChadWilliamsFixesAll I had mine replaced a couple years ago, sounds like they've went again. This time it'll be the MOOGS. If I pull off my wheel to look, are the links usually physically broken?
