Love your channel Mike! I’m 71, been doing this shit all of my life, and I still pick up tips from you! I’m retired now, but always work on my own vehicles. Great that you’re taking in the young ones, and passing the trade along. Not parts changers, Mechanics, like the word itself!

My day is going great. I replaced the left front cv axle of my daughters Honda CRV. Good thing I have a portapower to separate the inner cv joint from the intermediate axle shaft.

We built a big wooden table about 2’ tall with heavy duty swivel wheels for setting subframes or dropping engine/transmission setups when needed. Helps line it up when you need to make minor movements. Great stuff as always Mike

The best way to learn is by hands on. The plumb bob is a neat trick.

I'm surprised that GM would make a vented oil cap as a fix for that problem. Having a vented oil cap would be defeating the purpose of having a closed crankcase ventilation system, and would not meet emissions standards.

Had that happen last year on my 2012. Cost it a timing chain also. The repair cost made me just toss the car.

I caught the short about this car and I actually came here to see the rear main seal replacement, but that port fix was rather interesting.

Some flywheel bolts see oil and can leak past threads . I had a few burn clutch out from oil leaks . 351W Ford F350 was one.

Looks like a typical GM design flaw. But I also wonder how often the oil was changed.

Typically what happens on these is the PVC system will freeze /clog in winter and blow out the rear main.

Manufacturer should take advice from Mike.

Interesting root of the problem. Besides the obvious, a poor design, could it be avoided by let's say better oil maintenance? I only ask because something caused that hole to plug up or every one of those engines would be in the same condition. Good video, Mike...thanks.

All of my cars need main seals or timing covers, oh but all my cars have brakes bearings and axles intact most of the time.

Is there any late model, domestically made, vehicle that doesn't have some bank account draining issue that could strike without warning before they reach 100k?

I ended up just buying the updated oil cap with the vent. Would i still have to do this to the pcv on the intake like you did?
