Wait till the Engine is cool. Lift the vacuum hose out of the way and reach behind and you will feel the wiring. Pull the plug. Use a 1 1/16 thin walled socket and a short extension. The sender will come out fairly easy. Make sure you replace the screen. I was able to do this easy without removing anything at all.
Just wanted to say thank you for youre video very informative and straight to the point people like you help the working class folks that can't afford a shop .keep up the good work there are so many people that rely on you in there time of need . Mine quit today at 3 am I had pulled over and removed the oil fill cap and verified oil being pumped up closed it up and drove to work and home before changing it took me about 25 30 minutes it is very difficult to get to but I did not unhook any lines just removed the plastic cover and used a small tbi unit hold down bolt off a 90s Chevy to get the screen out it was plugged solid .
After my mistake on spending 500 bucks on a new oil pump, my "professional mechanic" did not fix this problem. Later i saw this video, it was just a blessing to the headache i had on figuring out the problem. As mentioned in this video, it was the filter itself. Many props to this gentleman. Thanks
That little filter should be included with the sensor! THANK YOU! THANK YOU! For your video. I’ve replaced two sensors and nearly pulled the oil pan before checking RU-vid one last time. Luckily I found your video. My Yukon had very low to zero oil pressure on the gauge but didn’t knock or tick throughout the rpm range. I pulled the sensor and filter popped in a new filter, buttoned everything back up, hit the switch.... 50 psi! THANK YOU!
Good work. Always nice not having to pull the intake and losing half the bolts. This way you can just drop a few sockets down the back of the engine by the time you're done.
I just had mine replaced....twice! Remember to REPLACE THE SCREEN FILTER AT THE BOTTOM OF THE SENSOR! Some mechanics will say it doesn't have one just so they don't have to pull it out because it's a pain in the but to remove!! Nevertheless it is there!! Great video!!
Great video! I just did this on my 2007 GMC Sierra and it’s a lot better than pulling the intake. I also found out that using a wall anchor and screw for picture hanging is also a good way to pull the screen filter. Just put the anchor in the hole after removing the sending unit and finger tighten the screw and remove. It came out quite easy. Thanks!
Really appreciate your video! I've watched so many I'm a bit depressed. I have the sensor and the screen and need to just do it. At 70 years old I don't bend in places I used to but am willing to try again. Used to make a living as a mechanic but they make vehicles too complex these days. Anyway, thanks for your video which is very straightforward and calming! Moreso, thanks for your patient encouragement! Be safe...Tom
Another great tip. Something I've noticed that really contributes to this, at least in my experience, going to long on the oil changes. have noticed this a lot when people run synthetic oil, they go way to long, the oil gets to thin and dirty and it plugs up those screens and the sensor. But something else I've noticed, on the engine with the active fuel management that have the oil consumption problems seem to be worse for this.
warriorpluto if you have good oil pressure, not using oil, no noise and do your oil changes when you should, I wouldn't worry to much. and something to keep in mind, warm your truck up for about 10 mins or so before draining the oil on an oil change it really helps cut down on sludge build up. have pulled engines apart with 300000kms on them and the lifter valley had over an inch of hard caked on sludge and it was do to many cold oil changes.
Thanks Tim! This video is very informative and helpful. You inspired me to attempt my own repair. I was able to change my OPS on my 2007 Yukon 212,000mi. Glad to see oil pressure again!
WOW!! This could be HUGE! I have watched my engine oil slowly drop over several years to maybe 30 LBS while hot and driving, and 20LBS at idle with 300K on engine however, no noise and engine runs great! it is a 2006 LQ9. If it is that screen I will be downright giddy! All highway miles and regular oil changes with Amsoil. THANKS!!
@@ThecardoctorTV Appreciate that however, i pulled the sender and there is NO screen! There is what looks like a metal tube up to the base of the sender (female side) threads, with a smaller hole at the bottom, very strange. So much for HOPE.
@@davebarron5939 I believe the screen is there to protect the solenoids in the AFM "VLOM". I don't think your 2006 should have that system, you lucky devil.
Change your oil every 3,000 miles because the greatest with 5.3 is people not changing the oil like they should and lifter start tapping because the oil pathways get clogged with sludge.
Hey .. Thanks a lot, this tip saved me some time; always looking for these kind of videos. And I certainly appreciate your simple and to the point demeanor, the explanations and directions are spot on. Thanks again...
Pretty good odds on that one buddy. If I wasn't making a video I would have replaced the sensor and filter without even looking at the scanner. Pretty common issue and the engine wasn't knocking so it was a good bet. Thanks for dropping in.
The other thing that seems to go on these when they show no pressure and has no pressure is the oil pump relief valve sticks or the O ring that connects to the oil pump to the pickup tube splits.
I dunno what the heck GM did but alot of those LS engines have the sudden loss of oil pressure. Its good just the sender fixed it. Those are cheap these days too they used to last forever
Mine just did loose alot of psi the other day while riding thing was it happened about 300 miles after I did a oil change (new to me vehicle so It was the first change that i have done to it) but out of nowhere it now idles at about 10psi and right about 20 when cruising before it sat right at 40 when riding and about 30 when idle, but only when the motor becomes hot the pressure drops, any ideas , I put 10 40 when I changed the oil, and just did another change yesterday to 20 50 and still when hot loses pressure any idea's?
Dont use ac delco oil filters. The oil pressure in my z71 dropped out and I thought I had a real issue, just needed an oil change. I switched to mobile 1 filter and it had been awesome. 10 bucks but better than ac delco.
You did not mention the issues the 5.3 has with the oil pump pickup tube o-ring.. where pressure starts normal and as it gets warmer it continuously declines to zero or almost zero... I have found this as a professional in shop mechanic to be more common than anything when it comes to abnormally low oil pressure readings..
I have an Escalade, which is GM but it has a bunch of random readings. It goes from no oil pressure, which says - - - PSI, to 190+, then down to 0 and when it does that I’ll get the low oil pressure (turn off engine) warning and dinging sound. I haven’t tried the to replace the sensor or screen yet, but I’m also getting the same codes and will be replacing it ASAP. Thanks for the video!
I have a 04 envoy xl. on vacation far from home where I do my own maintenance. the pressure went from normal to 0 parked at Walmart. never had this happen before. it would be a long tow but thanks for this video.
The Oil Pressure Low Message Is a GM defect on the oil pump pressure relieve valve plunger that gets stucked. They should make a RECALL of all vehicles that have this problem, It is very costly to replace the oil pump for something so small and simple. Envoys, Bravadas, Trailblazers and a lot of other vehicles. There should be a Class Action against GM for this. The problem is that when the valve is defective the computer incorrectly senses Low Pressure. That’s why when you step on the gas, the low pressure message disappears! In other words…is just a momentarily lie from the valve that makes the computer think that It has no oil and your car stalls trying to protect itself. This is how I solve it “momentarily” after I did all this… Changed the oil sensor. Flush the engine with Kerosene Replaced the engine pickup tube. Clean the throttle body (was dirty) After all that, I was about to give up and sell my Envoy, but I finally found a video where it was explaining the oil pressure relieve valve defect What I did, was to change my engine oil to 40W and use LUCAS oil treatment And Voila! The engine oil pressure went up and the low pressure message has disappeared. (up to now..knock on wood). I wish you all luck. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Il5F_QfHGV4.html
Thank you this helped FYI look out for plastic weather seal on connector for oil pressure sensor. When I removed connector from bad sensor, seal fell off connector. After new sensor was installed and connector reconnected, seal was discovered under truck!
You doing very good job 👍👍👍👍 Nice video 👌👌👌👌👌 You very good teaching good teacher 🤠 Thank you so much I watching each All video 😊 This is Rana Hamayun from new York long island Thank you so much
Great video. Thank you. If you don’t replace what could possibly go wrong other than not being able to visibly read your gauge. ?If we keep up with oil changes etc. ?
I'd get a vehicle towed if it had this problem because if the warning is real then your engine can be destroyed within seconds after getting the warning. Unless you have the tools to diagnose or fix it right then and there, but definitely don't drive it and tempt fate. Very expensive gamble.
this video also works for the 2007 hummer h2 6.0 liter, the only other thing to do is there is another electrical connector right beside the oil pressure switch on the passenger side, i had to disconnect that as well in order for the socket to fit on the oil pressure switch, otherwise it wouldnt fit.
good day sir, from the philippines. i would like to know if there is a problem with my oil sensor if it slightly fluctuates during idle? should i worry about it?
I have the low oil pressure issue with my 2011 Police Tahoe, even with a new sensor and screen. Starting to fear the worst, and I just got this truck a couple days ago. Bums me out cause I love it and it seems to run great otherwise.
Does it actually have low oil pressure or is it just reading low? remove the screen throw it away and only use an OE sensor for starters. Does it use any oil? Engine noise? Does it read low only when warm or all the time?
@@ThecardoctorTV I just had the sensor and screen replaced yesterday. Oil pressure is around 40 on the gauge when first started, drops to around 10 when warmed up and idling. The shop did not test the pressure manually though. They said the instrument cluster might be messed up, but I'm doubting that. I also have an error code for catalyst efficiency low on bank 2, but that's probably a given for 177k miles.
@@ThecardoctorTV Also I haven't noticed any engine noise, and the oil was just changed so I'm not sure if it burns any yet. I've only driven 30 or 40 miles since i got it a couple days ago.
I agree a good tip, getting it jumped from under the hood is tough, or maybe I need better jumpers/test wires. I know my plug(the plug on the vehicle side is not 100% intact)
I had same problem. Changed oil pressure switch with no fix. Added STP oil treatment and problem went away. Apparently 5W-30 is too thin. You need a thicker oil if you have high mileage in your vehicle.
I like it when you include other years that apply. I have an 05 Chevy (although it's a diesel) so I'll keep an eye on this for sure. How's your 460 engine doing?
Thanks, Tim for this great info. But what about a 2013 GMC Serria we did the sensor and filter change but the pressure came up for a second then went back to 0 pressure what can i look for now ????
Hello brother I have a 2005 gmc Yukon Denali my reading oil pressure reading stays at 0 I have been driving the truck like that for a while I have no engine codes another thing is there is a problem with my cluster my milage is ghost and prnd123 are barley visible everything else on the cluster works other than my oil pressure gauge stuck at 0 just need some input before I start spending money on parts
I'm not really seeing the exact problem that I'm having anywhere. I have an 06 silverado with 4.8. At idle, it shows 80psi, under load, it shows 0psi. There doesn't seem to be anything other than 80 or 0
You don’t have to remove all that just to get to the sensor... Just remove the comer and reach behind there and take it out... You can’t really see it, it’s mainly feeling your way around it... Good video but unnecessary removal of hoses... I just did this job today on my 07 GMC Sierra 1500
First thing you need to do with these LS based motors is to JB weld the pickup tube into the oil pump. And if you use synthetic oil your oil pressure relief valve wont get hung up and stick.
I work for GM and working at my dealer for 27 years I’ve noticed people don’t change there oil and the viscosity get slow and the thickness of the oil is so thin that it loses all pressure. FYI I can have this intake off in less than 10 min. There’s a reason why you take the intake off because if you break that stem of the switch then you’re up shit creek
I'm sure its easier on the cateyes too though not having to remove the manifold (I have small arms), I'm gonna use a torque wrench if I can and set it to 20 maybe 25 ft lbs even though they need 26 ft lbs.
tlt40s&w 70 your comment caught my attention!! Seems like your knowledgeable about this oil pressure mess!! I have a 2007 Ltz 6.0 and it’s losing pressure bad to where it’s telling me on the reading to stop the engine. I don’t won’t the dealership to take advantage of me as they have in the past and I rather by the tools needed to fix the problem myself ! It watched videos on it and it seems pretty easy to instal but wanted your in put on what I need to take the intake off so I won’t damage nothing else !
@@dangelofromcomo2456 if you get the specific oil sensor socket, make sure you don't buy the OEM brand from autozone, it's too tall for the yukon/suburban can't fit under a/c or cooling lines. I found one at Oreillys forget the brand but it was the only kind they carried.
excellent video. my question would be IF this conditions could trigger dtc1815 causing the transmission to fail when shifting as if in limp mode ?? any input greatly appreciated
Dinner engine swap for a block block on a 2009 GMC Yukon and still not get no oil pressure the build-up to a 40 then it drops down to zero then the truck shuts down after about 5 minutes any recommendations what I should do next
Tim, great video! Is it absolutely necessary to put the filter back in? The first gen Chevy's don't have them and this is the second OPS I've installed on my '08 GMC Yukon Denali in 2 years. Seems like the filter could be causing more problems than it helps.
Found out today my oil pressure sensor switch is broken giving no reading. On the way to work the oil light came on saying pressure was low. The engine could this be a malfunction
What would cause a misfire and check engine/service stabilitrac lights mean? Changed plugs and wires, solenoid good pulse on injector good spark. Misfire is on valve 4. 07 burb with 5.3
I have a 2003 Chevy Silverado 5.3 and my oil pressure went all the way up to 80 so I switched the oil pressure sensor and it was working fine but two weeks later my oil pressure went down to 0 and I got the low oil pressure sign. Do you think it’s still the oil pressure sensor or could it be something else?
Will Mobil 1 oil filter cause these to read just about 0 oil pressure on gauge and warning light on dash? Guy I helped out wanted to use 10w-30 (5 qts) Lucas (1qt). Did it started truck sounded fine ran fine jumped inside and almost died when saw gauge at o and warning low pressure. 05 sierra 5.3.
I have a 2003 Express van with the 5.3 engine. Oil pressure gauge is pegged at 80 psi all the time, never changes. But now the oil light is coming on when I start it and stays on for 2-3 minutes, then goes out. Does that while gauge reads 80 psi, and does this with engine cold start or hot start.
hey how you doing thank you for the great video. my oil has low pressure for some reason after I change the oil. I got the oil pressure sensor changed about five months ago but didn't know anything about a filter or a screen. I went to the park place and they can't seem to find the screen do you know the correct name for it. Thank you for your time
