Good to see real DIY, very good explanation and photos. I just did this as part of a timing chain, water pump, thermostat job on my 2011 hhr. Its a beastly job with so tight an engine frame fit. I have a similar exhaust leak sound, that's next on the to do list. I really like thorough burp of the cooling system well done! Good job!

These cars are such a pain in the ass to work on. I have a big pile of stuff I need to install on mine. Complete cooling system replacement, timing chain & tensioner, control arms, struts, brakes. I've had the parts for nearly a year now because I'm dreading doing any of it. 😟

i own the same year HHR you only have to loosen 1 of the intake hose clamps to remove the air box another fix your going to want to do is the intake and exhaust position sensors they are known to fail

At first I thought an Aussie had a HHR in Australia.... I said to myself "good on ya". Then I saw the California license plate....🤔

my leak is near the water pump. Really hard to tell if its the water pump or the gasket from the transfer pipe that goes into the water pump. Gonna order the gaskets and give it a go! Thanks for the video

@@gabrielwall1039 I did the water pump and thermostat. Figured im taking the time to do all this might as well do it all and be done

@@kavontrades8250 I understand you need a special tool to hold the timing chain whilst taking the water pump out? Good on you for taking the time now to do it especially if it's a suggested item at your Mileage. Love my HHR we sleep in it when we go camping:) my exhaust manifold crack didnt seal with the high temp sealant so I went ahead and got a used one from wrecker. Need to install this week on my days off from work

@@gabrielwall1039 yes a special tool is needed. And the bolts need to carefully be removed and put back in without dropping them in the crank case. I used a magnet. It was stressfull but got it done.

@@kavontrades8250 well done!! So did you end up replacing the transfer pipe seals? Were they shot?

Hi Gabriel! I pray all is well! Got a 2009 Chevy HHR and the temp guage goes above half when idling. The fan seems to work, but it's still trying to overheat when stopped at a light. I did a delivery and when I dropped off the order, smelled a burnt sort of sweet smell. Drove it home last night and again, fan still works, but engine was trying to overheat. I opened up the hood to take a look at upon putting a flashligh on the contents, saw fluid splashes on hoses and on the ceiling of the hood. Any idea of what this may sound like? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

You have any luck with your issue? I'm having the same problem but my pipe had so much pressure it ripped open
@robertdavis3036
@robertdavis3036 2 года назад
@@greatwhitehope1152 Yep! It's a long story, but basically it wasn't the fan at all! I took it to another shop to get a second opinion and it was actually a thermostat rubber cap that had some wear and tear, causing air and radiator fluid to squirt out when they did a diagnostic with an air pump. The prior mechanic was just convinced it was the fan.
