Great video. Lube slides in rubber boots. Very important... Pump your brakes before you put it in gear!!!. This will prevent that soft pedal. Yup

Great video, factual. Yes torque specs are important but in 55 years of working on cars, I know when it "feels right". Bleeding only necessary if hydraulic system has been opened(repl master cyl, caliper, etc).

Please be sure to cover the tools required in order to complete the task. Otherwise the video was perfect. It would be nice to know what socket was used in order to pull off the hub cap and the lug nuts. Beyond that, perfect! You covered: 1. 14 mm socket and the ratchet for the 2-caliber bolts 2. Medium pry-bar to pry away the caliper, slowly. (beware of the break-line, catch the caliper) 3. Zip-tie to temporarily mount the caliper 4. Check the break rotor for grooves. It may need replaced. 5. Wide-mouth vice-grips to compress the caliper piston back in. 6. Use brake pad cleaner on rotor. 7. Apply brake pad grease on the shim 8. Pull out caliper slides, clean, and grease them. 9. Re-assemble (common sense. Put it back together, you took it apart!)

This is a great comment and I do try to add the tools used in most videos, but forget sometimes. Thanks for adding this. I think it was a 3/4” socket or 19 mm for the wheel.

@ChadWilliamsFixesAll
@ChadWilliamsFixesAll 2 года назад
If the rears are caliper, it will be mostly the same. Sometimes the caliper pistons spin in on the rear. If you run into an issue like that, I have a rear caliper video on my Cruze within my channel you can watch.

So yeah I have had a crazy brake issue the last month on my 08 malibu lt2 118k.. About a month ago I experienced a brake caliper grabbing while on the freeway, I replaced the LF brake hose and caliper problem fixed I thought.. The next day more intermittent brake grabbing issues, so changed the RF hose, pads and rotors, and extensively bled the brake fluid a couple times.. So it drive great for a couple days so far but now I'm experiencing a "catching" noise only when making right turns while not applying brakes, it sounds like the corners of a brake pad are catching or something metal is tinging the rotor.. This has about made me crazy, I just want brakes and a car that doesn't shake!

How Important is cleaning the rotors?
@KE8ODY-WV-Ares-Ham-Dad-3O4
@KE8ODY-WV-Ares-Ham-Dad-3O4 3 года назад
@@reaganpapa3830 extremely important, thise iron rotors are packed and shipped in a oil based lubricant to help prevent rust.. I always take some brake kleen and clean them up good.. That oil on the surface of the rotors where the pads grab doesn't seen like a good idea

Breaks line dont need to be bleeded unless if it has to or if your changing a caliper or theres air in the system

Great video! One question I have - how do you know where to put the jack and jack stands? On my 2010 it has pinch weld jacking points. I've googled but I can't really find the exact answer I'm looking for. How do you know which part of the car to place your jack?
@l337pwnage
@l337pwnage 3 года назад
Those pinch welds are for the spare tire jack. Regular jacks can damage them, although usually not beyond the point of functionality. Personally, I Iook for sub frames to lift by. Sometimes I use a piece of would on the jack so I don't mark up the vehicle.

New to working on my car, I haven’t taken it apart yet to change the brakes, but I’m just replacing the brakes so will I need to get the vice grip to compress the caliper piston back in?
@ChadWilliamsFixesAll
@ChadWilliamsFixesAll 2 года назад
Yeah, I like to use large, wide mouth vice grips. But, if you want to use the correct tool, here is the link: amzn.to/3CuyzVa
@user-gk3lu1gg9t
@user-gk3lu1gg9t 2 года назад
you can buy a cheap c-clamp. Just make sure you compress the piston evenly so you don't damage it. I like to put the old brake pad between the piston and the clamp before I tighten it.
@poseidon1068
@poseidon1068 2 года назад
I dont understand why but my caliper will not for the life of me fit back on. I've compressed the piston all the way, but it's like a full centimeter off. I've got the pads and bracket on, screwed right, new rotor, but when I go to put the caliper on if I have one bolt hole lined up the other doesn't even come close to fitting over the slide.

Do you need to take the master cylinder cap off?
@rokitman5753
@rokitman5753 3 года назад
No that's not necessary there's no reason to open the cap all you are doing is allowing moisture into the system. The cap vents just fine. One thing you can do is take some of the rough edges off the new pads so they don't bind, the gap tolerances are never very accurate so taking the rough shit off makes them easier to install as well

Shouldn't you be using a torque wrench to put the wheels back on?
@ChadWilliamsFixesAll
@ChadWilliamsFixesAll 2 года назад
You can, but if you have been doing this for a while, you kind of just know what is tight. If you are more comfortable torquing it, please do so. Thanks for watching!

For anyone going crazy like I was -- on the REAR pads for my 2010 LT you have to screw the piston back in, a compressing tool does nothing! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-46wvs07NGIQ.html
