Heck yeah! I was wondering if they'd outlawed full size American rigs right after they took your guns away. That Duramax will make many over here jealous!
It took a team of great Australian scientists, funded by federal government, to discover guns and these large vehicles were two different things. Thus allowing them to remain.
I have to say though, scientists weren't able to determine the difference between high powered firearms and many vehicle modifications, thus many mods remain illegal.
I guess I was surprised to find out a bit ago that Australia does not have a Bill of Rights like we do. Bad assumption on my part that every nation that sprang up from the nation that gave us the Magna Carta would. It's a shame really.
This is probably the coolest duramax build I've seen. The Aussies seem to even build American trucks into better overlanders than we build here in the US.
Part of that is because America has more Highway Overland, so the market for Off-road Overland accessories just isn't as high. Offroading is looked at as a hobby, not a lifestyle here.
Very cool I didn't know that Chevys were sold in Australia. In the southeast US where I live Silverados are everywhere. I'm a proud owner of a Silverado myself. Clearview mirrors are OEM for GM Heavy Duty trucks.
They don't officially, it's like imports in the US. However american vehicle get converted to RHD in philippines or vietnam before it was shipped to australia or other RHD market. Tax is crazy though (idk if people can still register it as company car to get tax break), personally I think it is more cost effective to buy and build this kind of rig and keep it in america, then use the rest of the money to fly there every now and then
Firebird 87622 These earlier models like the one in the video weren’t and people had to get them imported and get a lhd to rhd conversion. But now with the newest one, HSV (Holden Special Vehicles) are converting the newest silvarados and Camaros.
You wouldn't expect to see ram longhorn in russia either, especially considering that US forbids directly selling vehicles overseas, but here it is, sitting in my backyard. People all around the world want, desire, need american trucks, these people find ways to obtain em eventually.
I've had two of those trucks (not as nicely customized) and Duramax are by far the best trucks you can get. Never had an issue with both of mine and I was very hard on them. This man is brilliant and he has himself a bulletproof truck. Great job mate
Hell yeah finally some American love. Don't get me wrong yalls rigs are awesome but they are cramped . Yes I know our trucks are heavier but cmon. I admit I do drive a chevy 2500 duramax so I'm a bit biased #texas
Christopher Trimble Once you try driving or parking a yank tank on our roads or in our car parks you understand why there aren’t many about. They are heaps narrower than what you would be used to.
Alan Livingston yeah I realize that. We are pretty damn lucky to have the situation we do over here granted we don’t have near the overland road system or anything like that besides in the western states. Mostly parks and stuff where 40 inch tires and 1 ton axles on jeeps are needed or mud parks which are about as much fun as you can have with your clothes on. I drove a dually for awhile which outside of Texas or any city that wants to be like California, sorry boutcha ya, would be like parking my current 2500 in your spots. Writing this as I sit next to a dodge Cummins dually lifted on 37’s god bless texas
I wouldnt think our vehicles are cramped, if there is the need for a serious overland setup to accommodate more than 4 people then most people get a good camping 4wd trailer aswell, though plenty of places even the best camping trailers would be a bad idea to bring like Canning Stock Route (longest public track in the world, takes a couple weeks to get done) and Holland Track. And those yank rigs fuckign drink fuel at a rate that would make a vodka drinking Russian queesy and out in the towns the diesel is like $2-3.50/L so...not many of us can afford to fill up a yank truck when we could just get a PAtrol that chews a meager 12L/100km combo rate and itll push out 700-800Nm of torque if u want it to. Plus a lot of our tracks are pretty hard going on anything bigger than a LAndcruiser or Rover.
$100k plus truck not including the mods. I think I'm fairly safe. Good on him though, but I highly doubt it's his efforts that have paid for all that at 23.
He's a farmer, cry poor when things are bad but don't complain when the good times are here, truck is probably a tax write off so we are probably paying for it
Not just because I’m American, I am a TOYOTA guy. But I think this is the coolest modified vehicle yet. This guy built his truck. wow that’s a beast. Simultaneously best and worst thing is the size.
Darth Revan their usually not built to go off-road though like this one, most I see are lifted for looks (not that it’s a bad thing because I like big lifted trucks with wide offsets) but I also like to see some with less offset, maybe not HUGE lifts, or maybe even a solid front axle and some lockers.
I’m thinking it was the extra weight he added. The bags should help a little but I know with my f250 it gets a little bouncy when you put some weight on the back of it. Driven both an f250 and a 2500 Chevy and they seem to have similar spring rates in the rear. I know my ford would be bouncy as hell without shocks properly tuned for that weight
What we do here in the United states with the allison is add a large cooler. Then you can add power. The Allison is a great transmission just don't like heat. So the large cooler is important. If you add the cooler you will love the performance out of the transmission.
@Dave D Mate, I've got one very similar to the one in this video....It's registered as a truck, I need a truck licence to drive it and I have to be at ZERO % blood alcohol when I drive it. So, if it waddles like a duck and quacks like a duck......it's a friggin DUCK.
if you believe the media, the farmers themselves say it every fucking summer. and demand big bail outs from the government and for them to divert major waterways and catchments etc to beef up their irrigation, all whilst adding another tax on the rest of us to cover it all
The red button on the rear view mirror is a feature used in the USA it's called on star. Basically it's a built in phone with special features that you pay a fee for. One of the features are if you get into an accident it will call for help for you.
Great episode! Here in Canada where I live and where I work in Texas these trucks are as common as roos are in the outback. But I’ve never seen one as cool as this! The owner clearly doesn’t muck about. Does it right the first time.. lol 2 twin arb compressors.. that tells you everything you need to know right there..
Kinda weird to see a right hand drive duramax but very cool rig. Interesting how people react to them in Australia but here in the U.S. everybody has them lol
they are very powerful machines but if they arent towing somthing like a big boat or a horse trailer or doing big farm work, people dont have ah igh opinion on em cos they extremely limited in what you can do in them here, not easy to drive em in the cities or even some bigger towns, they are really limited on tracks they can do (like i wouldnt wanna use it on the Canning or Holland tracks, but Great Central sure that be easy as but thats a road more than a overlanding track) and for the asking price of $150,000 we could easily go buy a freaking Iveco or Hino or Isuzu 4wd LR and build it to be a wicked overlander in comparison, or get a good way owards an Unimog setup ahha
Matthew Ray, the 2018 Silverado's are not $150K they start at $114K www.shannons.com.au/club/news/hsv-loads-up-full-sized-chevrolet-silverado/ The one he had was a 2014 the 2018 looks 100 times better
Ronny, do you know where the BDS suspension was fitted over east? My 2012 Silverado has a 6" Procomp lift, but the bloody torsion bars hang down really low....making it useless. Would love to do the coil-overs like ol mate has done to his blue jobbie.
William Thompson why dont toyota usa sell them there? Ive seen a lot of interest in the 70 series, its a shame you guys cant get it i like my 1hz ute a lot
Theyre very few and far between. We dont get them domestically. You can buy them from a ford/holden (gm)/dodge but they come off the line as a lhd truck and get converted once theyre here. Because of that these trucks cost between $100k and $200k new
Yeah! Ronny whey to go! finally my 2500HD truck is on your Modified episodes great jobthis monter trucks I use it for work and for overland in the southwest of the USA thanks to your episodes I am able to pick up some great ideas for my 2500HD. Keep up the good work.
Generally aussies build smaller rigs because these full size trucks demand $100k plus new but when we do get our hands on one we build them tough which makes them big
Beaut! That Roo bar is top notch. Australia only brand on that one?? Almost hit a bear and deer the other night driving to my Dads, need something like that... “Hit a few, no marks yet..” hahaha
youll see heaps of PAtrols and LAndcruisers (And even the odd LAnd Rover) with a the Cummins engine transplanted in them. All the power and a fraction of the weight.
Base model Wt 2500 Tdv8 in Usa is $55000usd , not $40000usd idiots on here are saying that's a rwd petrol without local taxes , No taxes on list price in the states , Priced with a Bmw 530 here , Bmw 530 e peformance sells for $108,000 aud here , 2500 Wt Tdv8 4x4 in Australia $115,000aud
I still don't quite get the seeming obsession with replacing the bed on a truck with a tray, what we Americans would call a flatbed. It looks so weird, but that's just personal, although I must admit I have a bias since I turned my 76 F250's bed into a full camper with lights and insulation and windows and a carpet and it's made for the easiest camping ever because I can just park and move my food and drink coolers to the side and sleep but I never see than on any other vehicle
I would trade my Chevy silverado for a 79 series Land cruiser any day! we cant get the good Au trucks here in America, But we got plenty huge sized Chevy and Ford trucks!
If your a toyota fan your going to get upset and prob won't listen to this anyway but after owning both, these silverados shit all over landcruisers. Except for parking in town
the truck is good for its purpose, towing a heavy load around a farm, but the guy is clueless and has set it up based on others experiences not his own, sums it up that he cant change the tyre on track
This was great. We see those all over the place here in the US. I have one in my driveway. We want your Landcrusiers. All we get are the 200 series land crusiers and they are expensive.
if only nissan hadnt decided to make the PAtrol's garbage, up to the Y61's, i think they shit all over any LAndcruiser but thats just my opinion, can certainly go worse than a 70 series.
When I saw the title and thumbnail I thought, Look at the flaming pile of shit Ronny has found, But yeah nah., It's actually pretty sick.. tough rig, Probably one of the best American modified 4x4s I've seen in Aus., Good find Ronny.. Can always count on your judgement for a good rig.
A Chevy Silverado of that year should have come stock with a G80 automatic rear locking diff. My old 06 Colorado had one, and my new 2012 Colorado has one.
So Jeeps didn't count? Good to see the info on the Silverado really like the tray and tanks set up. Diesels are less common in the US, but getting more common.
The rear end is probably what we north americans refer to as a G80. It acts like a limited slip most of the time then locks up after a certain amount of wheel slip. It works alright but a selectable locker is certainly nicer.
Awesome that you got a real truck on here! I own one of these and i have to say that these trucks are great for hauling or just driving around but I can't say I would ever take mine off road. To heavy, turning radius is not the best and to wide but if any aussies need your house moved call this guy.
This would have come with it from the factory as it would have been imported from the US... but I'm guessing with the H&S tuner, its no longer present. From the smoke, its obvious the DPF has fallen off somewhere on a rough track as well... New diesels post 2016 in Australia have DPF's, but they don't need DEF to meet emissions standards here yet, but I'm sure it will come in time. We are typically 8-10yrs behind emission standards in the US for road vehicles. We aren't allowed to remove emissions equipment once its fitted, but there is no real testing of that, unlike many states in the US. You will find most people here that buy an American pickup in Australia loose the EGR/DPF/DEF pretty quick.
As an American, this is so cool to see. Tons of aftermarket parts over here for these trucks, but as you said shipping is expensive and it’s hard to find a mechanic over there. Check out Gale Banks performance if you want power parts
