My 2008 Chevy Trailblazer had no brake lights!
It was strange, the Center High mounted light worked. The brake lights, did not.
Turned out to be an easy fix. So, here's what I did to fix them.
Hopefully this helps...
Amazon.com also sells the Tail light Circuit Board for $15.00

Thank you for this video! Mine was the passenger side circuit board. Thanks to you, the brake lights on my 2003 Chevy Trailblazer EXT now work again and I can pass inspection this week, which will allow us to go pick up my Mom across the state for Christmas so that she isn't alone. Not only was your video easy to follow, but you also took what can be a stressful situation for many people and made everything much better with your humor and overall likeable personality. This is one of the most valuable videos I have ever seen on RU-vid. Merry Christmas! EDIT- For anyone who can't find the piece of cloth to pull out your drivers side middle seat to find your fuse box, you may have a version without it and instead you will use the black plastic recline mechanism like you would on the passenger side seat.

Thank you a thousand times over. I got stopped after work like a day or two ago, cop was a real sweetheart, just told me I didn’t have ANY lights except the center brake light. Found out today that for me it’s both circuit boards & 5 of the 6 lights were affected. (cause my passenger REVERSE LIGHT WORKS)

Thank you again, I checked my lights this morning and both brake bulbs were lightly melted on the base. I had already checked the bulbs ( I thought) and saw no problem. After watching your video, I went back and found the problem immediately. I went to the parts house and picked up two new circuit boards for $16.00 each, now I have two working brake lights again. You saved me probably $150. or more, by being able to do it myself. I appreciate you taking time to help others !!

This procedure does the job! My 2002 Trailblazer had these symptoms, and it turned out that a body shop had replaced the taillight sockets and circuit board assembly with a non-OEM part that failed. But there's more! A few months earlier, the cruise control had stopped working, as had the "GM Oil Life Sensor" that is reset by depressing the brake pedal three times after an oil change. Replacing these boards fixed all three of the problems - brake lights returned, cruise control returned, and oil life sensor reset confirmed. Three problems fixed for $30!!!

Thanks for being conversational and affable and saying things like, "pushy thing" and "get the screw you dropped on the ground." This matches my experience and skill level very well. I call pliers "squeezers" so we would probably get along. this was actually very helpful

Fixed car problem this morning. 2004 Trailblazer both fuses were good but on circuit board both top lights (which you explained were brake lights) were fry’d causing bad bulbs and I guess damaging both boards. Got replacement boards, 1 from Autozone and 1 from Oreilly like you said who sold them. Everything works great now. Thanks Again for all of your help and well explained video.

I have same problem with 2009 Chevy Equinox, alas, this isn't the solution for me as mine doesn't have the circuit boards on each side. Woe is me, what to do? I like this guy's sense of humor and delivery. By having prepped for video it was concise and to the point unlike some others in which we have to wait actual complete (boring) time. Good job, Cheap Geek; thank you.

Thanks for taking the time to make this video. Even though all of my fuses were fine, and my bulbs were not blown, both tail light assemblies had a tint of brown scorching around the brake light sockets. I replaced both bulbs and my tail lights work, but I went ahead and ordered two new tail light assemblies (part number 16532713 Tail Lamp Circuit Board) and spare bulbs.

Thanks for posting this video! Recently had the exact same problem on my '05 Trailblazer with 156,000 miles. The top bulb on both rear lights was melted to the electrical panel and left/right rear fuses were blown. Purchased two new GM panels and installed die electric grease in all connections. Hoping the grease will help prevent the plastic bulb base from melting in the future. It's been two weeks, and all is working well.

You are awesome! My 07 blazer brake lights haven’t worked since I bought it from an auction. I asked a few male mechanics I know if they could tell me what I needed to do to fix this but all said it was probably a fuse in one of the three spots. Same problem on my 2000 Tahoe. No brake lights but the roof brake light works. Turns and 4 ways work so the bulbs are good. Fuses ok. My problem was a loose 4 way switch on the steering column. Held to the left with 4 ways off the brakes lights worked. I stuffed a piece of cardboard folded to tighten that switch for now until I can take the collar off the column to check out the connections better on the 4 way. I hope this helps before you spend a fortune on a new brake peddle switch and change it out because that is NOT a fun job. I did that on a 99 Yukon and it was very frustrating due to its location,, requiring 2 elbows and 4 knuckles on each finger. Hold that 4 way switch to either side with the switch off and press the brake peddle to check for brake lights. Apparently that circuit is shared.

Hooray! Replaced both circuit boards and brake lights work again. Thank you all but especially CheapGeek! also BTW, my mechanic replaced my exhaust manifold last year after it cracked for $600. Come to find out there is an extension to the warranty for this. I brought my work receipt to the dealer and GM is going to reimburse my $600. If you run into that problem, see below: #11150: Special Coverage Adjustment-Exhaust Manifold Warranty Extension - (Jul 25, 2011) Subject: 11150 - Special Coverage Adjustment - Exhaust Manifold Warranty Extension Models: 2008-2009 Chevrolet TrailBlazer 2008-2009 GMC Envoy Equipped with 4.2L Engine (LL8) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Condition Some 2008-2009 model year Chevrolet TrailBlazer and GMC Envoy vehicles equipped with a 4.2L engine (LL8), may have a condition in which, over time, may develop a crack in the exhaust manifold. Special Coverage Adjustment This special coverage covers the condition described above for a period of 10 years or 120,000 miles (193,000 km), whichever occurs first, from the date the vehicle was originally placed in service, regardless of ownership. Dealers are to replace the exhaust manifold if it is determined to be cracked. The repairs will be made at no charge to the customer. For vehicles covered by Vehicle Service Contracts, all eligible claims with repair orders on or after July 26, 2011, are covered by this special coverage and must be submitted using the labor operation codes provided with this bulletin. Claims with repair orders prior to July 26, 2011, must be submitted to the Service Contract provider. Vehicles Involved Involved are certain 2008-2009 model year Chevrolet TrailBlazer and GMC Envoy vehicles equipped with a 4.2L engine (LL8). My brake lights went out after I was testing out some nice LED bulbs. A burnt fuse seemed unlikely since LEDs use 10% or less of the power of a non LED. Still, nothing is easier to try than a fuse, but everything that made sense to me in the panels, was fine. So I posted a paniced forum post, then started googling, and found this video. Fuse #34 WAS burned out! I did the same exact thing, I threw a 20A in there, and so far it hasn't gone back out again so I guess I'm good.

well, so far on my 07, fuses OK ... now, to get the bottom 2 screws out of the circuit board/bulb holder - screw heads are badly corroded. I think a couple of drops of Hoppe's #9 gunpowder solvent should do the trick (Hoppe's - by FAR, the best rust penetrant that I have ever found - I keep a bottle in my tool box!)

Thank you! My right rear brake light does not work but the light bulb is fine as it lights up when I use my remote to lock the vehicle.

I have the same problem, but I'm going to have to replace that whole little board in the back that has all the bulbs. Could you please tell me the correct name of that part so that I can go buy it? And THANK YOU for this detailed video, I just saved a bunch of money in not calling a mechanic!
@CheapGeek

+Adriana Lara I believe it's called tail light circuit board. The auto parts store had no problem finding it. :)

2 things... 1.) My 08 chevy trailblazer did NOT use philips screws. They were those specialty "torx" I think they are called. Why... I can not imagine. That would be good info to have BEFORE starting on this. 2.) While I did not have any blown fuses, I found my brake light socket melted is EXACTLY the same way as yours. Maybe this should be a recall?
@CheapGeek
@CheapGeek Год назад
Weird. There’s not going to be a recall. Should be. Most of these Trailblazers are over a decade old. It’s not cool having melted sockets. 😉

I know this is an old video and I know you might not see this but if both are out and it’s not fuses or bulbs on either is it just a wiring problem? Or should I replace both circuit boards?
@CheapGeek
@CheapGeek Год назад
You could use a volt meter to see if there’s any power to both sides at the rear drivers and passengers brake lights. If there is, I would start with the driver’s side circuit board first. 😉👍

What's the purpose of the middle bulb I saw a Trailblazer tonight and it had the top and middle lights lit up

Is there something here I'm missing the right brake lights didn't work so first I got new bulbs and put them in and they still didn't work then I checked the fuses in both boxes and neither of them were blown but when I took out the fuse from the box in the back and put it back in now both of my break lights don't work only the ones on the top
@CheapGeek
@CheapGeek 3 года назад
Yep. The left rear brake light assembly circuit board. If the fuses aren’t blown, then you remove the left rear tail light (drivers side rear) and check the circuit board where the light bulbs plug in. 80 % chance it needs to be replaced. Advance auto parts carries them last time I checked. The left tail light assembly also feeds the right tail light assembly. And the High mounted Stop light is connected as well. Check the left rear drivers side tail light assembly. If it look melty at all- replace it.

thank you sir because of this video I fix my drivers side rear lights and also the license plate was not working and this video helps me a lot it was just a simple 10A fuse I also what I did is use a multimeter to check continuity staring from the top of the fuse but it it was visible easy to spot thank you again :D

I have a 2006 trailblazer and i checked both fuses..both are good..my break lights is the middle bulb on the circuit board and when i put on my hazards the middle(break) bulbs are activated..can it still be my circuit boards..thanks and i know im a couple of years late in commenting and youre probably stop making videos on you tube as your driving your Mazzerati in the autobon in Germany.idk..hopefully you will respond cause i need to get out of the doghouse lol..thanks
@CheapGeek

Camacho J Have you taken a look at the actual circuit board itself? Both fuses in the fuse boxes hood and under seat are good? I’m leaning towards circuit board.. I still make videos ;) No autobahn or Maserati either. 😎
@CheapGeek
@CheapGeek 6 лет назад
Also- The brake light switch on the pedal could be the culprit if everything is looking good...
