I had a transmission go bad and during the replacement the transfer case shift motor went bad. While replacing that a wire on the connector broke but I didn't know it. I went throwing money at it until I there was nothing but the transfer case. I got the idea to go back to the beginning and I got to looking at the plugs on the transfer case when I found one of the wires on the transfer case shift motor had broken. I connected a jumper wire to make contact and the transfer case shifted out of 4 high then I shifted to auto and 4 low and back to 2 wd. After weeks of trying to figure this out I learned to look for problems where you have been working.
My dads old 03 ext would go in 4 lo on it's own when you shut it off, it wouldnt shift back wether we put it in neutral or park either, conveniently when the tow truck put it in neutral to load it up, it clunked and shifted back no problem, dealer never found anything wrong and the car did this again months later.
The A4WD system was NOT one of GM's better ideas! Having the drivetrain shift in and out 4WD is really hard on the drivetrain components. Just leave it in 2WD, and shift it into 4WD only when you really need it, then go back to 2WD. And NEVER use 4WD on dry pavement!
think this is my problem. i replaced the switch. nothing. the module. nothing. took to dealer to program module. they said it was already good. but there was a code. i left. im guessing this is my next one.
