I can say without a doubt that I've learned more about History from watching your channel than I ever had with 12 yrs. of Schooling.I thoroughly enjoy History Hunters and could listen to you Jeff forever.Thank You and Sarah for all you do to educate us..
So very interesting. I did not know General Pershing had suffered such a horrible tragedy. The human stories found in cemeteries are amazing! Thank you for bringing us those stories.
Great video Jeff. I know that like me, you reside in California. I was wondering, when you take trips to places like the Dakotas and Wyoming, do you just find them to be much more peaceful and less messed up places than California? Find yourself wondering why you still live in California? I sure do.
Thank you Jeff. The history you bring to us is very entertaining. When I'm in a cement, I look at the markers and wondering who those people were, what they did in life, and how they died. You bring us answers to some questions of many people. I always look forward to your programs.
History Hunters, History Lessons. Always interesting stories of some people I've never heard of but had such important contributions to this country. Someday I would like to be able to take at least a month and travel the country and see these important places, our history. Thanks for sharing this video with us.
Jeff, you just missed it. Every light August there is a cemetery walk-through. Where the visitors encounter several of those buried there and listen to their story. you need to visit Cheyenne and Wyoming again next year. Let me know, I would love to visit with you. Fort Phil Kearney is a great place to visit. Within a few miles of the fort or two major battles of the Indian wars: The Fetterman Fight and the Wagon box Fight.
This is a wonderful vlog Jeff but sad to find out about Pershing's tragic family fire. I can't phantom what he went through. It was a beautiful day for your visit and I thank you for all your research you presented for our enjoyment.
husband speaking - after watching your clips for the past few years, if I was young enough to travel around again - I would definitely be stoping at the cemeteries for some real history. I have a patch on my American Legion jacket - of KILROY. and the statement - A HERO WAS HERE. No young person under age 60 has yet to know who he was. I still believe that after 2 generations, you are forgotten. what is said on your marker is all that is left.
I look forward to every Sunday Jeff, in regards to your episodes. I Love your take on History. Got a two part question for you: First, Do you have a (favorite) episode that stands out to you more than the others? Secondly, is there a episode you want to do that you have been wanting to do for a long time? If so, can you elaborate on what it might be? Thank you for sharing/posting all these amazing videos. Also, tell Sarah I wish her a belated Happy Birthday. God Bless you and yours.
Hello Jeff, I think you would enjoy making a video regarding Seth Kinman, buried in California. You can find him on my Find A Grave listing. Respects, Seward R. Osborne
Another great video Jeff & Sarah. So much history there, not to mention the great information about each person that you researched and shared with us all. Thank you so very much!
Hello Jeff & Sarah, Thanks for sharing this interesting story and the memories of the people of Wyoming. Rest 🙏 Peace and thanks for your travel. Happy 🌞 day and have a wonderful day!
Jeff, as always, an interesting, informative and entertaining video... I had no idea either, about General Pershing's personal pain. In fact, many of those accomplished, historic figures you visited had tales of anguish. Thank you so much for sharing... Jeff.👏☀️👏
There was a huge stone for a marker in the background... I was hoping to see it up close. Wyoming was a state that many of my ancestor's lived in, but only briefly, on their hundred years long trip to the west. Somewhere in that same graveyard several of the young cousins lie. It is nice to see it well kept.
Awesome video again guy’s! So many interesting and charismatic figures throughout history. Love hearing hearing about them and all the interesting facts you bring to light. Great job again and look forward to another one! Take care now and see ya on the next one! Frank from Philadelphia, PA. P.S. Thank you for the shout out too! That was really cool! 👍
Hi Jeff and Sarah! As always, we love your presentation of history. Plus, you were showing us history near our area! Well done! Next time we zip up to Cheyenne, we can check it out in person. We left the Central Valley 13 years ago, and while we have checked out a lot of the history out here, your videos always give us new areas to explore. Besides all the work you guys did on your trip, hope you had fun exploring too.
Interesting stuff as usual, Jeff. I visited Fort Phil Kearny and the massacre site a few years back. A young Crazy Horse was in the decoy party that lured the soldiers into their prepared trap. One legend that was never proved was that Crazy Horse stood up on his horse and lifted his breech cloth and mooned the soldiers to further rile them up. The commander of the fort, Carrington, feared an attack of a large group of Indians after the massacre. He ordered spare ammunition to be piled up and if their defense came to a point of all being lost he would instruct everyone to get into the makeshift magazine and all would be blown up so that none of them would suffer any consequences from being captured by the 'savages'.
SO COOL! I live in Cheyenne and am a fourth-generation Wyomingite and we have some of the most amazing history in the west! So glad you covered this and thanks for visiting!!
Jeff a great video again as usual. Just a little side note on General Pershing. I met a family member of his many years ago in the 2000s, and they did not know that there was a high school in Detroit named Pershing High School. In Kansas city where the World War I museum is at Pershing came in 1920 to dedicate that museum. Another great episode about learning new history on Old topics. Thanks again for sharing, and really enjoy this video. If you ever come to Leavenworth Kansas, you can come to mount Muncie Cemetery and see where Fred Harvey founder of the Harvey restaurants and the first and only United States Supreme Court Justice; David Brewer from Kansas who lived here in Leavenworth. Thanks again Jeff for sharing.
Great history! Perhaps you could visit the only graveyards in the City of San Francisco, the first is the National Cemetery in the Presidio. The second is behind the Mission San Francisco de Asis. The rest of the graves that existed in the city's early days were dug up and relocated south of SF in the early 1900s. The digging up and relocating is a controversial story itself.
OMG. I am so jealous. I grew up in Cheyenne Wyoming, when my parents were stationed at FE Warren Air Force Base. Pershing Blvd is a main road in Cheyenne.
Thanks! I have envied the places you have visited. Other than being born in Japan and a few trips to Mexico, I haven’t been out of the country. I understand that Grenville Dodge also named many Cheyenne streets after Civil War figures and Union Pacific RR officials! Thanks for your comments, Jenn!
Your videos are always so interesting and informative. We have a Pershing County in Nevada so I checked to see who it was named after. Yep...Gen John J Pershing. ALSO Happy Birthday Sarah!! 🥳🎉🎊
Very good research on this video Jeff! One thing in common with history are so many babies that are born and don’t live very long, very sad. It’s a wonder our population is as much as it is today.
Very true. In 1900, 75 percent of the people in the United States died before they reached age 65. Today, this is almost reversed: about 70 percent of people die after age 65.
I'm really enjoying the episodes on these less populated western states. There are some real gems hidden out here, while most of the attention goes to highly populated coastal areas.
Just love inspiring stories of women who accomplished much that I can share with my daughters. Thanks so much for another amazing video, history lesson, and awesome narration! Blessings to you Jeff and Sarah! ❤️🤗
Passing through there too about 7 times in my life but had no idea of the history and especially the FIRST’S! Very interesting Jeff!! Have to add to my bucket list for when we retire and hit the road!
At 10:49 - The message from the Governor of Wyoming a 100 years ago. If it’s true, I was saddened because I don’t think politicians think like that today.
Stop in Sinclair. The Parco Inn is historic. It may be of interest to you. I drive up from Colorado every night, and load fuel there. Actor Larry Wilcox from the TV show CHIPS, was born & raised in Rawlins.
I know I have seen and heard of Tom Horn somewhere before, he had something to do with the name Pinkerton. Which I think was some king of company, if I remember rightfully. Poor Willie, clear case of mistaken identity. Interesting video, thank you. ❤️ Jodie, from Down Under 🇦🇺
Yeah I have a list of grave sites that I’ve been to a famous old west graves , in Wyoming I visited Tom Horns and the famous law man JOSEPH S. LeFORS ! Plus many others
Great episode Jeff! Coincidentally, I subscribe to a channel called "side tripping with Cary"and his latest video was on a college classmate of his that was a lieutenant governor there in Colorado that also passed away tragically a young man. I live in northwest Arkansas, just about 10 miles from Pea ridge. So the story about Master Sergeant Yount, the "bada*s"😎 was also a great interest to me. My personal experience in the army taught me to never call the highest ranking soldier (who is not an officer) "Sargent".. after 50 push-ups and digging a hole in frozen ground as punishment, I know exactly what a Master Sergeant is 😉
Once again Jeff, thanks so much for this most interesting episode! The history of the American west as you present it has me totally captivated!! I'm looking forward to the next video already! Hi to Sarah!!
First woman Governor of any State! I heard her name in college but had forgotten it. Nelly Tayloe Ross. This is a name we should remember. Very interesting video. Thank you, Jeff. For all your travels and hard work. The work you do always greatly impresses me! I had the chance to take a job in Cheyenne, but passed on it. What are your impressions of Cheyenne?
Jeff I started to watch the show and you introduced William Bradford Ross. My middle name is Bradford. Years ago my dad, historian and he did work with genealogy. He actually traced the name Bradford back to William Bradford the 1st. With every name in some way or form we are all connected. So it's been maybe 50 years since my dad did this research. I really believe that I am related to Governor William Bradford the 1st. What do you say? I'll keep watching. Thanks 👍
Thanks Jeff, for the fabulous history. I just love learning history from such beautiful cemeteries. Yount was an amazing dude. Thanks again for taking us with you.
Thank you very much. My wife is now joining me in watching your channel. I used to watch in the morning now we watch together before bed time. I told her she has alot of catching up to do. As always I am never disappointed. Till next time.
Another wonderful history lesson. I knew of general Pershing only from his service I had no idea what had happened to his family. Anyway great job thanks for sharing and taking us on the adventure.
Fabulous Jeff and Sarah! Hard to believe we know nothing about history after see things we were never taught or even imagine. What a great thing you two are teaching all of us. Even PH-Ds have to study these amazing findings all of their lives to learn just a fraction of what is in those cemeteries. Keep it going Jeff and Sarah and we will keep watching and learning.
That cemetery is very well kept and full of history. I’ll bet there are many more interesting people and their stories in that cemetery. I go to a local cemetery tour put on by the Historical society. They find new stores every year. Thank you.
Very interesting episode! Cheyenne is a neat town with a lot of history, next time I go I will need to check out the cemetery you visited. Always enjoy your historic videos! 👍
