I had no idea about how deep this conflict went between Taiwan & China… Whoaw! That’s another reason why I’ll never refuse a history lesson, to get more insights on current situations or to learn why things happened/how they often still influence our society to this day ❤❤❤ thanks again to the whole The People Profiles team for this gem of a video ; I keep wondering if any of you ever did teach history because if I had been one of your students I’d deliberately stall classes to keep learning from you (and also skip the subjects I don’t like like maths, chemistry, geography and physics 😅🙈) during high school my favourite subjects were History, English, Philosophy and Behavioural sciences. French and Biology I did enjoy but some things were harder than others 🥴

I hope you will be posting more history lessons about China & about the different dynasties, prominent chinese women keaders if there any for it seems their prominent role was only to provide sexual pleasure to men, stories of concubines, arranged marriages of princesses as political tool in forming alliances. Such a disgusting role of women before, huh?

To add to your point, ROC-TW sort of gave up its claim over Mongolia when economic links were established. At the same time, this was a moot point since Mongolia recognized the PRC since 16 Oct 1949 and the relationship was between 2 economic entities. ROC-TW maintained a Mongolian and Tibetan Affairs Commission until 2017.

Overall pretty accurate description of history from the western perspective. I appreciate that there are not as many criticisms because history is often written in the eyes of the victors. Joe Stilwell wanted to lead the war and to the Chinese it was not prudent because a foreign power leader would symbolize that as a disgrace of foreign invasion.

Back to that time when at wars with Japanese or communist,whole country relied on a strong and determined leader, although he has to done some dictatorial things like “white terror “ but you can’t not deny that communist spy and infiltration had acutely broken the integrity of the country, during that suffering and chaotic time, unstoppable corruption could happen with in years of wars, I still think he has the most descent character compared to Mao, if he had won the civil war, mainland china would move on like what Taiwan has achieved decades ago no matter democracy or economic under the guidance of Sun Yet San’s principle instead of communism.

So Chiang married Mao early on. That explains a lot of the animosity lol. Kidding aside, CKS could be known as the one who lost greater China. He too acted like a warlord early on and the people are just fed up. Nonetheless, most of the success stories in Asia were governed by autocrats & were in one form of martial law or another. I think democracy can only succeed in a very limited condition after great bloodshed & disdain. Even the enlightened colonials were autocratic. Power corrupts and self-aggrandizement is just too tempting.

While the video is well researched, ending the struggle between China and Taiwan around the time of Chiang and his son's death is extremely MISLEADING of the dynamic between the two sides TODAY! Both Taiwan and the Chinese Nationalist (KMT) have completely changed! Chiang's KMT has won only 2 out of the 7 presidential elections since 2000. The new Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) has won the other 5, with 3 in a row during the most recent elections. The poor performance of the KMT in a new democratic Taiwan has prompted the party to become Chinese Communist's best buddies in Taiwan! This is the problem with 99.99% of the Western documentaries that still portray the conflict between China and Taiwan as between the Communist and the KMT, when in fact both are corroborating to sabotage Taiwan to stop the new DPP! The primary difference between the KMT and DPP is that the former is rooted in China and fled to Taiwan in 1949. While the DPP consists of almost exclusively Taiwanese whose families have been in Taiwan for 100s of years. Though the Taiwanese also have a Chinese root from many centuries ago, such a weak and remote tie plays no role in their mentality and identity. In fact, many Taiwanese fought in China as Japanese soldiers during WWII! Japan wouldn't have sent them to China if it even suspected the Taiwanese had a Chinese identity. Certainly, this Taiwanese identity was very much driven underground during Chiang's iron-fist rule. However, as soon as Taiwan democratized, it rolled back like thunder!

China's claim that Taiwan is a "breakaway" Chinese province bears further analysis. Formosa had been a separate, independent entity for China for over 1,500 years when it was eventually conquered by the Portuguese and later the Spaniards. The territory was taken by China in the late 1600s before the Chinese Emperor ceded it to Japan, where it remained until the end of WWII. The Taiwanese are ethnically, linguistically, and to a large extent religiously different. By all rights, they should have the right to choose their own political and national future.
@tekinfomedi
@tekinfomedi 12 дней назад
Not sure when you get your info from. Whatever the ethnic makeup of Formosa Island in ancient times, Taiwan became ethnically Han Chinese from late 16th Century onwards and definitely became part of China in 1661 or 1683 depending on your interpretation.
@jys390
@jys390 7 дней назад
“The Taiwanese are ethnically, linguistically, and religiously different.” I can appreciate political differences as a justification for independence, but THIS type of absolute idiocy taught in Taiwan schools for the past 20 years is why 20+ percent of Taiwan’s 97 percent Han population now claim to have aboriginal heritage. No man, your majority 本省人 Taiwanese are just as fully Han as the Mainland Chinese you think are subhuman across the strait. Your ancestors were not the victims of foreign colonists, but were the ones doing the subjugation and ethnic cleansing of the 2-3 percent of aboriginals now in Taiwan. Taiwanese is virtually indistinguishable apart from a few slang words from Hokkien/Fujianese, where a much larger percentage of speakers reside in the mainland. Stop this wokewashing self-victimhood caricature of Taiwanese people and history. You want independence? Fine. But you beclown yourself when you fake information like this.

@@pauloakwood9208 okay so you are not Taiwanese. So it’s understandable you and other Western savior-complex commentators don’t realize that the Taiwanese people claiming victim colonized status in Taiwan (97 percent Han) were the colonizers themselves. So unless the 97 percent of Han Chinese agree to vacate the island in return to the 3 percent aboriginals, they should stop using idiotic comments that the Taiwanese are linguistically/ethnically different from mainland Chinese. Like I said, you can make valid Taiwan independence arguments based on political rationale without looking foolish and lying.

Taiwan and Penghu are leftover issues from World War II. See Treaty of San Francisco. At the time, the U.S. government helped the Chinese Nationalist Party (Republic of China), which had been defeated in the Chinese Civil War, escape to Taiwan, which was then a Japanese colony. Look at Formosa betrayed. Formosa is the original name of Taiwan. After the Chinese Kuomintang came to Taiwan, it still maintained dictatorial rule, but moved towards democracy under pressure from the United States, and the Taiwanese entered the Republic of China to fight for their rights. The Chinese who lost their privileges in Taiwan united with the People's Republic of China to steal Taiwan and Penghu.
@tekinfomedi
@tekinfomedi 12 дней назад
There are no leftover issues here. Japan SURRENDERED Taiwan and Penghu to ROC in 1945. What happened after that no longer concerned Japan. The treaty of San Francisco reaffirmed this situation. This Treaty did not mention Burma, Indochina and the Dutch East Indies. Do that mean the status of these regions are undefined? Of course not, because Japan SURRENDERED these regions.
