You need a Spanner wrench. It will make removing knobs and the round nut on the output jack a very simple job. You should score around thenut with an exacto blade before removing. In fact anything sitting next the finish should be scored before removing. Graph tech nuts are not made of plastic and are very good quality. The nut will not affect tone with exception of open strings. Once you fret a string the nut is out of play.

I got mine from a Chinese seller on eBay. I just searched for ’61 reissue 5 ply, there are lots of sellers to choose from. I will give you my experience with it in my future SG pickup upgrade video. 🤘
I’m not reviewing them, I’m just using what I have at home. But you’re right I will probably change them to quality ones in the future. It is a cheap upgrade.

After seeing this comparison I was floored. If youre trying to be thrifty at least change the magnets out to A5s on the chibson junk.
