Chic's Beach, Virginia Beach

In this video we're going to cover all things Chic’s Beach. I'll show you the different neighborhoods, the types of homes, prices, things to do, and of course the beach.
Chic’s Beach, or Chick’s Beach, or Chesapeake Beach, is not the oceanfront where you find all the tourists. Chic’s Beach is the area in the northern part of Virginia Beach on the Chesapeake Bay. Technically, it's just the neighborhood surrounding the Chesapeake Bay Bridge tunnel. But for today's discussion we're going to use it to cover all of the neighborhoods within walking distance of the beaches on the Chesapeake Bay. There are no high rise hotels, no boardwalk, and no cheesy nightclubs. Chic’s Beach is for the locals.
Chick’s Beach, Ocean Park, Aires on the Bay, Baylake Pines, Lynnhaven Shores, Lynnhaven Colony, Marina Shores, Cape Henry Shores, Cape Story by the Sea. These are all neighborhoods in Chick’s Beach and they all have slightly different personalities. What they all have in common is proximity to the beaches on the Chesapeake Bay. While the beach is smaller than at the oceanfront, it feels more personal. This is your beach. You definitely won’t be able to go surfing, but you can walk out to the sandbars and don’t have to worry about getting sucked out to sea in a riptide. There is public access to the beach on every street. So no matter where you live, you can walk down to the end of the street and out onto the beach. And yes, you can watch the sun set over the water while walking on the beach because the beach faces north, not east like the rest of the east coast. To me, that makes Chic’s Beach very special.
The part that was developed first, back in the 50’s, was the neighborhood of Chic’s Beach, in Chic’s Beach. Here you'll find a combination of old beach bungalows and new construction. The older homes tend to be smaller but with yards. While you’ll find new single family homes, many of the newer homes are three story duplexes. Since the lot sizes are relatively small, it’s more economical for the builders to tear down an old beach bungalow and build two three story condos on the same lot. The market will support two brand new condos close to the beach at $600,000 more than a single $1,200,000 house in the same location. That said, there’s no shortage of million dollar homes in Chic’s Beach, but they tend to be on larger lots on the water. As you move inland, the homes get more affordable, but they are still within biking distance of the beach and some of the cool bars and restaurants like The Commonwealth Brewery and Buoy 44. Bar… on the beach… watch the sunset right in your neighborhood. There aren’t a lot of places to do that in Virginia Beach, but you can do it in Chic’s Beach. Moving east into Baylake Pines, it gets a bit more residential. This is nice if you need a bit more space. Aires on the Bay is a neighborhood of about 300 townhomes with garages that sell in the mid three hundreds. It’s easy living and just steps from the beach. Most of the homes and condos have very small yards, if they have a yard at all. The beach is your backyard. Ocean Park is just like Chic’s Beach but without the restaurant on the bay. It’s the same beach after all.
The Lesner Bridge splits Chic’s Beach in half. It goes over the Lynnhaven Inlet which is the waterway that connects The Chesapeake Bay with The Lynnhaven River, Broad Bay, and all the other interior waterways. Because of this, there are plenty of places to dock your boat, store your boat, and take your boat. You don’t have to live in Chic’s Beach to keep your boat here, but it sure is nice when it’s close. Living on the east side of Lesner Bridge gives you slightly better access to shopping and restaurants. Lynnhaven Colony has some of the most affordable waterfront homes with deep water access in all of Virginia Beach. Lynnhaven Shores is full of condos within a block of the beach. Some of these are stand alone duplexes and some are condominium complexes with pools and elevators. The duplexes usually have no condo fee, what we call no fee condos.
One of the coolest little neighborhoods in all of Virginia Beach is Cape Henry Shores. It’s cool because you can walk on the walking path through the neighborhood into the state park. Or walk to the beach. Or go the other way and bike to one of the many restaurants and bars. Of course you can do that from any of the surrounding neighborhoods in Chic’s Beach, but the walking path goes right through the middle of Cape Henry Shores. And who doesn’t want that?
