John C. Reilly should have received an Oscar for this performance. He is one of the most underrated actors of all time.

Notice how Renee Zellwegger and Richard Gere are the two credited actors in the title, yet this is John C Reilly's song and scene. The underappreciation of the character.... Intentional or coincidence?

Amos is that one character who you can't help but feel sorry for. Unlike the rest of the cast, who're either corrupted or criminals, he's just an average guy trying to make a living and provide for his family. It's a shame though that he has an ungrateful wife who tried to use him multiple times and take him for granted. This is the same woman who murdered someone whom she had an affair with, and then let Amos take the fall. But the very moment the cops started to pick apart is story, and Amos realizes that his wife was sleeping with another man, which is the same man she murdered, Roxie called him out by claiming he was a disloyal husband. To make matters worse, when Amos did everything he could to bail his wife out of prison, he discovered that his wife was pregnant and immediately assumed it was his kid. But when Billy, Roxie's lawyer, tells him that the math doesn't add up and that Amos couldn't be the father, he was considering divorce due to the betrayal. And yet, despite all of this, he still remained loyal towards an ungrateful wife... up until she was found innocent for a murder she did commit and revealing that the pregnancy was fake. Seriously, Amos deserved better.

If someone stood up in a crowd And raised his voice up way out loud And waved his arm And shook his leg You'd notice him If someone in a movie show Yelled "fire in the second row, This whole place is a powder keg!" You'd notice him And even without clucking like a hen Everyone gets noticed, now and then, Unless, of course, that personage should be Invisible, inconsequential me Cellophane Mister Cellophane Should have been my name Mister Cellophane Cause you can look right through me Walk right by me And never know I'm there I tell ya Cellophane Mister Cellophane Should have been my name Mister Cellophane Cause you can look right through me Walk right by me And never know I'm there Suppose you was a little cat Residin' in a person's flat Who fed you fish and scratched your ears You'd notice him Suppose you was a woman wed And sleepin' in a double bed beside one man for seven years You'd notice him A human being's made of more than air With all that bulk, you're bound to see him there Unless that human bein' next to you Is unimpressive, undistinquished You know who Should have been my name Mister Cellophane Cause you can look right through me Walk right by me And never know I"m there I tell ya Cellophane Mister Cellophane Should have been my name Mister Cellophane Cause you can look right through me Walk right by me And never know I'm there Never even know I'm there
