I don't think the Rome move is what failed Caleb. I think the Bears failed Caleb by not firing the O Line Coach when you fired the rest of the offensive staff last year. Why is it Lucas Patrick looked like a total bust on the Bears, but now he's on New Orleans and he was the highest graded O Line in the first 2 weeks. The coaching is more an issue here if players on the O Line can go to other teams and destroy it.

The Bears haven't had a Pro Bowler on the OL since Kyle Long was in his prime and played for them which is far too long. Then they wonder why they can't develop a QB.....SMH.

The bears are also picking #1 because that pick was from a trade so technically they aren’t supposed to have Caleb. So their roster was already on the cusp of being built like this Caleb just was the icing which is why he has the best situation in nfl history as a rookie QB

Don’t forget, they did grab a would be 1st round or high second round OL Tackle Kiran Amegadjie in the third round this year, but he was injured coming into the draft. He is nursing a quad and will be ready to play this week or next.

Sherm Justin Fields is a better Qb and had he been given what Caleb has he would have spanked the Texans and it would not have been close. Justin is better in any lifetime than Caleb at this moment.

They have had a below average OL for multiple years. The facts they didn’t address it was a problem. I’d imagine that Poles will spend a good chunk of his cap space and 3 picks in the first 2 rounds on fixing the interior OL. Their Ts can get it done. But they have the worst interior in the league.

Richard, you failed to mention the best coach of them all who loves to build strong OLs, and has won every where that he has been, your favorite coach - Jim Harbaugh.

They drafted Rome because they knew KA was injury prone but his veteran leadership which is more valuable to Rome and Caleb. The bears expect 10 wins this year but real fans know next draft is where they load the trenches

It's the Andrew Luck rule. Always build your rookie franchise QB a line before you get him weapons. All that contact prevents them from developing because they spend every week in season and every off season just trying to heal from the beating until the wheels fall off.

People compared Caleb Williams play style to Kyler Murray coming out , and while similar I think Caleb’s struggles is just one more factor that shows just how good Murray is as he was a beast his rookie year Williams looks to be no where near as good as Murray was YR1, and def isn’t now but that’s not a fair comparison seeing as Murray is a vet n a top 5-7 QB. As for Rome Odunze I don’t blame the Bears for taking him, they took Wright last season had an above avg LT in Jones, had talent along the interior I don’t think any one thought the OL would be this bad. If anything blame them for not trading out 9 for more picks to use on OL then taking LSU WR Brian Thomas …. The Bears drafted Raw Yale OT Kiran Amegadjie who could develop as a Guard maybe they should have traded for the capital to draft one more OG to develop. AZ drafted an absolute BEAST who’s a mauler in the run game very athletic n long with elite power just needs to improve his technique in 6”5-325lb (35in+ arms) Isaiah Adams who went like 72 I think. He was by far the most dominant iOL at the senior bowl. SF drafted an excellent young OG talent but who lacks power making up for with lateral quickness is 6”5 305lb Dominick Puni. Bears took the rawest dude in the draft Kiran Amegadjie and Odunze at WR so now they just need to find ways to make this work. Maybe play Kiran getting him more live reps and really invest in the OL this year. I don’t doubt Odunze at all i think his stat would look much better with a good vet QB. Staff needs to go heavy protection 12 personnel n establish the run to keep these defenses honest then use PA to start attacking all over the field and get Odunze involved. Being so young it’ll just take time, once Odunze hits his prime I think they (CHI Fans n staff)will be glad Bears took him 9th. What’s happening now isn’t his fault, he will be good !!! It’s crazy that both Odunze and MHJ remind me of Larry Fitz in different ways both similar.

I agree…with or without Williams, I wanted my Bears to draft that Jackson Powers lineman from Oregon. We needed a new offensive lineman badly and we didn’t get him…we had Allen so there was no need to another receiver till later rounds.

Rome shouldn't have been picked at where he was at. We obviously needed lineman to help your QB but Poles isn't scared, like he said, I'm not scared.

Sherman doesn’t know enough about the Bears to be talking about them. The Bears had the number 1 draft pick in the 2023 draft, because they had the worst record and traded it to the Panthers. The Bears had the number 1 draft pick in the 2024 draft, because the Panthers had the worst record. Expecting the Bears to go from the worst record in ’23 to filling all their holes in two drafts is not very reasonable. The line was “atrocious”? How does that equate with the Bears finishing second in rushing yardage last season. How ever pass protection was where they were weakest. But Fields didn’t help be hanging onto the ball to long. Poles brought 4 lineman, 3 free agents and drafted 1. Unfortunately, they haven’t gelled together. Plus look at who they have faced. So far Titans have the #1 defense, Titans’ Simmons and Sweat are top 3 interior defensive pair. Then they had the Texans’ Hunter and Williams the next game. And both teams took advantage of the line disarray by blitzing 24 times. With the 9th overall pick they took the best player available (that was the belief of most of the pundits). Joe Alt was gone at the 5th pick. Their second-round pick was used on Sweat. That looks to be a fantastic trade. Their third pick was offensive line who has been injured and unable to play.

They fckd up big time not realizing how bad their o line has been; this is not a new issue. That makes it inexcusable to me. Take it from someone who has had a qb start and continue for years under a horrible o line, if you wait too long to fix it it won’t matter once it’s fixed bc the dude will have ptsd out there and still panic play for at least half a season even w a great shiny new o line. It will affect your team for years to come in many ways I am not exaggerating. It needs to be improved IMMEDIATELY and fully fixed by next season for real.

Alt & Latham were off the board. Fashanu was really the only guy who might've been worth that pick that was available. Williams & Odunze can grow together. This thing is a marathon, not a sprint. Kiran Amegadjie is a decent prospect with some nice intangibles. Give things time.

Yeah the Bears went receiver at 9 because Joe Alt was taken at 5. They took the best talent available (most GM's do). The starting center is hurt, the backup is getting trucked and their free agent right guard seems to be more interested in counting his money than blocking. Is it the GM's fault, maybe? They took Offensive tackles the last three years they're all starters Wright/Jenkins/Jones. Yes, protection has not been good and they need to add more talent but the entire roster has been re-built. It's early and a rookie QB normally makes the O-line look worse than it is. The team is 1-1 and lost to a very good team. Seems to me in this new era of the NFL the first 4 weeks is training camp for the starters. Shame !

Sherman is wrong here. The bears picked 9th. Not first.. they had the panthers pick. At the end of last season basically this EXACT line was much better. They’re out of sync. That’s the problem.

I haven't even watched the video yet but just buy the thumbnail I have to disagree everyone keeps saying the bears should have drafted a offensive lineman I think Joe Alt was gone by the time the bears picked Rome. I say that to say this if you've been paying attention none of the top rookie offensive lineman have really been playing well outside of Alt. JC Latham was getting his tail whipped by the bears defensive line the problem that Poles made is he didn't invest enough money in free agency on the offensive line or via trade he did trade for Bates who recently got hurt, but even that was sketchy because Ryan Bates has not had many snaps at the center position which is the weakest position on their offensive line and also the most important. I don't have a problem with them drafting Rome at all because a rookie quarterback really does not need a bunch of rookies blocking for him he needs veterans they also did draft a left tackle in the third round he's coming off a quad injury though. It's funny how just after two games now everybody wants to criticize Poles about drafting offensive lineman this year without realizing those young men have to grow just like the quarterback. Even though Pittsburgh is 2 and 0 they are struggling on the offensive line you know why because they have a rookie and a second year offensive lineman in Broderick Jones who has all the talent in the world, but he is still young and developing himself Ryan's mistake was not getting enough veteran help at the center and guard positions he had a chance to get cushingberry or sign Connor Williams I know he was coming off of injury though, so I don't think it's a draft problem I think it's a investing money in free agency on the offensive line I never liked the Nate Davis signing because he was a strong run blocker in Tennessee, but he struggled in Pass protection. I don't know how all these NFL professionals are not seeing that these young offensive lineman are struggling early as well the surprise may be Dominique Puni I believe the RG for the 49ers, but it's about the system there the young offensive lineman have to adjust just like the young quarterbacks if they're not putting the right system then they will get exposed I can go back over the last three drafts and most of the top lineman drafted have not lived up to expectations yet. The guy down in Carolina at LT has struggled the two tackles drafted a couple years ago in Seattle have had their struggles the kid from northwestern who everybody was going crazy about has struggled in Tennessee Darnell wright who actually plays for the bears in his second season has all the talent in the world, but he still has technique issues at time The super bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs just benched their starting rookie left tackle, So young offensive lineman is not the key especially when you have a rookie quarterback back there you have to get these veterans in there and you have to create a system so that their talent can be used properly the biggest problem has been continuity because of injuries and I think the the offensive coordinator has to do a much better job with in-game adjustments. I would like for anybody to name me an offensive lineman on the 49ers outside of Trent Williams off the top of their head without looking at the roster sheet I bet you you can't, but they continuously have a top rated offensive line because of coach shanahan's offensive scheming same with the Green Bay Packers they do not have a bunch of All pro talent, but the scheme allows them to all work together with continuity and consistency.

Yep. Odunze was a luxury pick for a team still trying to pay the rent. Should have either taken the best Olineman available or better yet traded down to later in the first round and use that pick and the one that would get added into the deal to take two Olinemen. Richard has no idea what hes talking about when it comes to the Bears, two O line men went before the bears 2nd 1st rd pick. The reason the Bears had 1st pick was because of the trade with Carolina, bears were not the worst team to deserve the 1st pick that was Carolina. Keenan seems to be injury prone and the Bears also needed a WR to pair with DJ long term. This year is only a step in being competitive, next year the bears add some O line and D line help! With all that said, Bears had a chance to win the game at the end of the game. Caleb will get better with experience.

And don’t forget we could’ve still added Connor Williams in free agency… even after the draft a pro bowl talent at 27 years of age with above average ability at center already proven in the NFL… and we stuck with a backup… that we paid to start… much respect to his profession cause that seems a lil difficult for the average man, but unless there’s a magic button for massive muscles… this doesn’t look it’s going to go to well… let’s not forget about Matt Prior played well enough to start at RG and parented well with Darnell Wright all offseason… we play the guy who doesn’t practice… so we agree with your shows analysis….
