Chicago Bulls - Indiana Pacers | 1998 Playoffs | ECF Game 3: Reggie saves the day

A limping Reggie Miller scored 13 of his 28 points in the final 4 1/2 minutes and the Indiana Pacers survived a furious late rally by the Chicago Bulls and climbed back into the Eastern Conference finals with a 107-105 victory in Game Three.
"I stepped on Mike's foot in the middle of the third quarter," Miller said.
Clearly hobbled, Miller nevertheless made three three-pointers, a 20-footer that beat the shot clock and the clinching free throws in the final 4:11. He was the only Pacer to score from the field in the last 6 1/2 minutes.
"It loosened up as the game went on," Miller said. "I knew I couldn't drive, so I basically just played off their mistakes."
Miller made 9-of-15 shots, including 4-of-7 from behind the arc. Indiana's bench held a 43-25 scoring advantage, including 20-6 over the final 13-plus minutes.
"He said he could go," Pacers coach Larry Bird said. "He put everything on the line and stepped up and hit the big shots."
Michael Jordan scored 30 points and Scottie Pippen added 23 for the Bulls, who suffered their first road loss of the postseason and had a five-game winning streak snapped. Chicago trimmed an eight-point deficit to 103-102 in just over a minute, but Rose and Davis each made a pair of clutch free throws before Miller sealed it.
"He was hurt and I don't know why we didn't go at him," Bulls guard Ron Harper said. "We had a chance in this game and we know we let a golden opportunity slip away."

@jaboo82681 That team in '00 was the oldest team in NBA Finals History. Which is why they had no chance vs a prime Shaq and 22 yr old Kobe.

I have a lot of respect for Reggie Miller regardless of whether or not he won a championship. He certainly played like a champion day in and day out, and never switched teams just to win.

The 1998 Bulls had a tough road to win their 6th Championship. This was a super tough series for the Bulls...and then they had another tough series against the Jazz. In some respects, the Pacers 'should' have defeated the Bulls, but Michael 'pulled it out' in the 7th game. Part of the greatness of Michael, is he won games he 'should' have lost, but overrode the natural flow of events. Both the Pacers and Jazz, at that time, where tough, savvy opponents. Their 6th championship run is actually more impressive in retrospect.

Bob Loblaw - overrated my ass. You don't win 6 rings, 3 in a row at a time by being overrated. The overall greatest metrics ever over an entire career aren't recorded by someone overrated. And he did it in a tougher era with much more competition and on a good team but not one that is clearly better than the rest of the NBA like today. This team was by far, the oldest in the NBA and yet they found ways to win year after year.

This was a great series even though I won the Bulls won this series I still watch it and think Indiana has a chance. Reggie vs Jordan that what made this a great series they pushed the Bulls to the limit and if they didn't get tired in GM 7 they would have won that game.

prior to free agency owners didn't "control players. it was the players choice to stay with a team. as an example in '79 Buss signed Magic to a 20 yr contract. Magic signed it! Buss didn't control him or force him to sign a 20 year deal. The only thing Free agency is increase the potential earning power of players base don performance. In terms of creating quality teams or even great teams, those days are dead! today you need lucky draft, theft in trades or collusion to make a very good team

It's funny, you know who was the first big name, modern superstar to switch teams so he could finally win a ring? Shaq. Everyone is upset with Lebron for doing it (because they have nothing else now to clown him about), but NO ONE is upset about Shaq doing it. That's just funny to me.

Well actually Shaq was ran out of LA and thats why he became desperate to win another ring before Kobe. Lebron left from his own choice, not because he got chased out by a teammate.

Lmao Reggie always celebrated a playoff win like he won a championship a damn shame he didn't get a ring it's not even a argument this was the toughest most challenging playoff series of Michael Jordan's career the only game 7 of his career and that game 7 went down to the last minute
@mickeyjohnson5247
