Delay is not the time it takes to darken, it is the time it takes to come back to light state after it had been darkened. The amount of time it takes to darken is set by standards and testing and is not an adjustable feature otherwise you'd be looking at issues. Also a proper auto-darkening filter protects you even in the light state from actually damaging your eyes.
Just bought this hood yesterday 2/10/23. Thank you for your review as I've yet to use it. I'm a first time welder with absolutely 0 knowledge of hoods or welding. I bought the Chicago Electric Flux 125 and this hood to weld stuff around my home when needed. I mean I did weld a couple thing about 20yrs ago with a welding helmet and woke up with my eyes welded shut 😂😂😂 worst pain ever. So as long as this hood keeps that from happening, it's a win in my book😊😊 thanks again for your review
Thanks for your video, I needed some direction for buying a new helmet. I have been retired for a few years and I need something that will serve me well. Thanks for your videos.
bought this as my first hood, currently in my highschool welding class and got tired of using the hoods they have and bought this one. gonna custom paint it and stuff.
Great trade to learn, stick with it and you can make a good living at it, protect yourself from it though, it can mess you up if you don’t use good PPE.
Thanks for the review! I am brand new to welding and have the red helmet. I can't see worth a darn but figured it's because I'm so new to the art. My settings are as described in the manual, I have it at 11 and tried 10 but noticed a difference. You mentioned you have to 'look' for the material which gives me hope.
This good is different for sure, I’m not use to the blue hue, that was the hardest part for me, but you do have to kinda look for whatever joint your welding, I try to not focus on the ark until I’ve found the joint I’m welding.
Nice review! I have the next hood up, the one with the cheesy blue stickers. But it also has "grind mode" where you can use it without it darkening when you're grinding, which is nice. Paid $34 for it with a coupon at the Black Friday sale at HF a few months ago. Love it, will buy another if it ever dies on me but so far it's been 100%. Worlds ahead of the old fixed shade analog helmets, and for the money you can't beat it. Also, when the batteries eventually die there are YT videos on how to replace them in these CW helmets so don't throw it out, put in a couple of $3 watch batteries and rock on for another 5 years, lol! I enjoy your videos, you got a like and a sub. Keep up the good work.
They have CR2450 batteries inside which go dead and kill the unit until they are replaced. The batteries are welded to strips with fragile connections. They last about a year or two,
Welp after looking at this after purchasing my Welding helmet from there…I’m now thinking about getting a new and better one and also never welded starting school for it should I get a different welding hood?
I bought the step up with the stickers. first thing I did was take the stickers off. in the process I realized they put the freakin blue flame stickers on the helmet you got!
They're not the same, you'd know this if you read the boxes... Cheapest has 20,000 and blue stickers mean 25,000, those numbers don't describe stickers
@@Reddishkarma so there is a plastic piece inside and out that is really hazy, I’m looking for a decent replacement for the outside cause the lens will get ruined without it.
I realize you posted this video two years ago. But I noticed no one mentioned it. But you said you are afraid of welding flash. Don’t be concerned with any helmet. The danger with welding isn’t from the bright light, it’s the UV that is caused by the arc. To my knowledge all welding helmets protect you from UV regardless of the shade. Moral of the story even if your auto darkening helmet doesn’t darken for some reason it will be bright, but you will still be protected from the UV and therefore won’t get welding flash. The Sandy feeling in your eyes after getting flashed is sunburn on your eyes.
@@Bufordboone I’ve never actually been flashed with a helmet on, only when I forgot to drop my helmet when I was in stick welding Class. But it wasn’t long enough to get that Sandy feeling people talk about. But boy was it bright lol. So yea I understand.
Thank you for what you think of it. I have one and am a newbe and am having a hard time to see the puddle that I am suppost to see. So am I still useing it too dark? would like to hear what you think. Do I need to get closer to the welding or not. I am still learning so would like to hear from you. Thank you.
Keep your face as far away as you can stand, what process are you using? MIG? Flux core? Stick? Most of those you should have it set for 11-12 but no lower than 10 that’s for sure.
I adjusted mine the way you said but when it darkens you can’t see enough to weld. I adjusted the settings but it don’t seem to make any difference. Any suggestions?
Did you remove the film from the inside of shield? If you already did that… I had to remove the protective plastic from mine cause I couldn’t see though it at all.
Question. I just got mine today and it flickers alot. What do I do about it. I had it in the sun for about an hour and looked at the sun with it on and it does nothing any tips?
Slideshooter9 the sun isn’t bright enough for it to do anything, and it probably flickers either cause the sensitivity is super high or it may be defective.
Slideshooter9 I have only had mine outside once that I can remember, I didn’t have any flickering problems and I have my sensitivity all the way up, so I’m not sure, to be honest, I would consider a return if it doesn’t stop, that’s not something that I would wanna mess with.
I have 2 different hf helmets. On 1 model I have it set at 13 and still can't really see my bead. The other model, 10 is the shade. 9 is too dark for me and 11 is to bright. Maybe it's just me. Idk
The cheesy blue one does. I got that one from harbor freight. Im just trying to figure out how to even get mine to activate. Might have come dead in the box
i cant see a fucking thing when welding with this lol someone help me im very new to welding, picked up a flux core welder just to weld on nuts to broken bolts, ect, and some minor exhaust repairs, its great except i cant see what the fuck im welding Plesae help lol
I personally wouldn't trust one of those shields Expeacially if you do any decent amount of welding. I used to have one years ago and it always left my eyes sore and I've heard from friends that it can actually cause a Welders flash. They just don't darken fast enough. I would stick with a name brand if you're going to go with an auto darkening shield. There really is a big difference. Between those Chinese import ones and the name brand 100 to 150 dollar ones. If you're only using it for 5 or 10 minutes that's kinda one thing. But if you're looking to use it for projects where you're looking at a good day or two of welding then pass on those cheap pieces of shit. Because it's only a matter of time before you regret buying it in the first place.
Yeah I don’t use it much, I thought it would be nice to have a auto dark but I don’t weld enough to justify spending 200+ on a nice one, this one just scares me, even 5 or 10 minutes welding with this and I’ll see spots for a few hours afterwards, I went back to the tried and true shade 10 stagnant hood, it’s best for what I do as far as welding is concerned.
I had the Cheap HF helmet. It worked good for about 4 years. The batteries aren't replaceable. The factory installed batteries are sitting on the shelf going dead in the box. The batteries died and I ended up buyIng a new one on EBay for about $40.00. Replaceable batteries, full size screen, and full adjustments. The CCP knockoff market is cutthroat. Once US Mtg sent the first operation over there everything, and I mean everything, they took with them was copied and is now being made by slave labor. Patents mean nothing. Once you set up the operation it is cheap to just run it. Hi end, low end, one plant makes it all.
