When I saw Bebe in CHICAGO Marilu Henner was Roxie Hart. Bebe, a tiny little thing, put every ounce she had into “I Can’t Do It Alone”. She climbed on rigging on the stage as part of the choreography towards the end. When she finished the theater erupted in wild applause and cheers. Marilu, sitting calmly in a chair, smiled and said,”I don’t know…can I see that last part again?” The band picked up at the hardest part of the number and Bebe did it perfectly a second time!! The roof came off the place after that! I don’t know how she had any breath left then. 😂👏🎉👏😊🎶💕
Watching this makes me love Rob Marshall even more. He had a huge challenge in adapting this, and managed to keep the essence while letting it be a different animal. Both are brilliant.
It is amazing the things you miss in life, while your busy doing other things. Bebe Newirth, Linda Eder, Karen Siemba, vs touring europe on a motorbike, glorious memories of europe, lovely memories of the ladies I met. But after watching Karen & Bebe on ladies of broadway, and finding Linda Eder , I consider myself lucky to have to have senn them, but ladies you missed out on a trip round europe that was divine 😅😊😊
I found myself wondering exactly when Bebe discovered that her vocal talents were as formidable as her dancing ones. I had a funny notion while watching this genius piece….what if in real life, while performing this knock out medley at the White House, these two monstrous talents, suddenly in a blinding flash, found themselves transported through time, and performing this for Dolly Madison and all of her mad coterie. Yeah, I can see how that might be very interesting and possibly very entertaining.
