One of my favorite songs of all time....this is one of tbe great rock songs of all time. I met Jimmy Pankow who wrote this ,and told him that i want this played at my memorial service..He couldnt believe it. Peter can sing anything. Thats why i told you guys months ago to do this song....Chicago is CRIMINALLY UNDERRATED. CRIMINALLY
This is probably my favorite Chi song. Great lyrics, great vocals, incredible bass and percussion, and Kath guitar at the end. They still perform this song regularly in concert.
There's still enough heft in the band at this point, but it was being scaled back in favor of pop. This is a great mix of the pop they'd end up doing but with some rock band weight to it. Feelin Stronger Every Day gives me the same vibe. And in both songs the transition to the second half of the song is tremendous. Always liked this song.
Thanks you two for reacting to THIS song. It has a special meaning for me. My dad died way too early at 55 years of age and this song came on the radio as we loaded into the car to drive to my dad's funeral service at the Veteran's Cemetary. It was to me a sign. A revelation if you will. I don't believe in coincedence. The lyrics of this song were speaking to me from beyond, from the unseen realm. You mentioned the lack of Kath's guitar until at the end, and you mentioned also the strings. I think Kath's guitar at the end was like driving the point home after having made your arguments for a composition like this. Even a 'soft' rock song like this can be impactful and driven, and perhaps, connect deep within a person without having to resort to the flash of Kath's guitar wizardry. Mind you, I love Stevie Ray Vaughan and so many guitarists who have moved us with their solos, but this song I can listen to a thousand times in a row and still find some new crevice within myself that has been touched and meaningfully changed. But then, hey, I have a deep connection with this already because of my dad's funeral. So, maybe I'm a little bit biased.
Peter's got a Stevie Wonderish thing happening towards the end as he goes into funk mode along with the rest of the band. Yeaaaaaah eeeeeeee.. Yeah yeah! Awesome song and easily one of the strongest from this album. ❤
The beginning reminded me of soap opera music. I guess it’s fitting since this seems like a love song to me. Love the high harmonies. Love how they built it up to the soulful, groovy sound at the end-that’s what I needed to feel satisfied. 😂
Just saw them in Windsor Canada April 2023..got to go onstage meet them..and take pictures with them…we did the VIP tickets..still amazing after listening to them since I was a teen in the 70s..Robert Lamm one of my fave rock band vocalists
I've been Searching is such a beautiful song! that outro guitar is amazing. Terry was the man on guitar and Peter the voice for Chicago. Terry's playing is one of those like Hendrix that you immediately know who's playing and it wonderful! Great job you two, great reviews!
Chicago VII (leather album cover) - Searchin' So Long - I could tell the opening with strings threw you all for a loop! hahahah....However, Sifa your reactions to Peter Cetera's voice goes without saying!! I could tell his voice touched you. When this album came out I was completely blown away again by the virtuosity, musicianship and innovation of Chicago. All their instrumentals and songs with vocals are amazing. Chicago released CTA through Chicago XI with Terry Kath - Chicago VII reminds me of CTA in that double album of incredible charts. One of the other songs to review is Call on Me - written by Lee Loughnane (I believe his first) and is based on the divorce of his first wife. Peter's voice is incredible on that vocal and the horns rock!
☺️we call Chicago VII ‘Gold Chicago’ because we never touched the actual vinyl and all we have is the pictures. Peter’s voice is golden! Thanks so much for sharing Henry!
This is an amazing album. I believe Peter's voice really shines on "Woman Don't Want To Love Me." He's hitting on some Al Green throughout. Also, Terry's guitar solo is like no other.
Hi, it’s awhile since I’ve watched one of your videos and I missed you guys! 😆 I’ve been a huge Chicago fan since I was a young kid (predominately late 60’s and 70’s-era Chicago, prior to the David Foster “popification” of the band in the 80’s). You really need to check out some videos from the band Leonid and Friends, who mainly do Chicago covers, but they have also done some songs from other bands (Steely Dan, Earth, Wind and Fire, Tower of Power, etc) and they have a couple originals. They are based out of Russia and the leader is a producer/musician from Moscow who started the band as a tribute to Chicago because he’s been a huge fan since he was a child. You won’t believe how phenomenal the covers are, with meticulous arrangements and incredible playing/singing. I just saw them play live in Massachusetts a couple months ago (I also saw them in 2019 during their first US tour) and they just as good live. If I already mentioned them in one of your previous videos…never mind! 😆
Imagine being 12 years old when you first heard this song! Yeah… I bet I looked a lot like the two of you ….air drums and all! Secret sauce was in the mix. All time hidden classic. TYVM
James Pankow - the man wrote some masterpieces and this is one. He was influenced by the classics (Bach etc.) You can definitely notice with this song.
Hey, beautiful people and friends of great music! I know this song gave you a bit of heartburn at first. I think you expected the RnR experience from previous albums. I think this is where Chicago started moving into the next era...the one prior to their, "yacht rock" time in the '80's. You two are so great and fun and smart!!
Thanks for this reaction. I quite enjoy this track. First time Chicago recorded with strings. I believe I first heard this song in 1977 through my Marantz/ L100 stereo similar to the same thing I use to listen to your reactions. This track is absolutely one of my favorites.
I think that you may have confused tbis song with Song of the Evergreens ogf Chicago VII (GOLD CHICAGO) Peter Ceters what a voicd....In my opinion he ranks with Plant, Mercury, Rodgers as all time great rock singers. He can sing anything abd oh yeah what a basd player
Emulating the Beach Boys here. They would later work with Brian Wilson. This is kind of the ballady Chicago they were trending to and which i hated but the orchestration and swells are so spectacular i did love this. Maybe my last fling with the band.
I'm going to subscribe for doing Chicago, but can you please play the non-hits of the 70s? EVERYONE does the same 5 songs. "Women Don't Want To Love Me" is sooo funky. THAT would be introducing even Chicago fans to new stuff and would separate yourselves from all the other channels like Joey who now gets 33 views. There's a million doing the same songs. "Oh, Thank You Great Spirit" is a great song and they sound so different. There's 3 lead singers. Documentaries on RU-vid, Terry Kath one is free.
