As a jury, basically it comes down to who tells the best story. the most compelling story wins. the jurors don't know the street life because they're usually upper-class white people (the make-up of most jurors in black-on-black cases like this). and they aren't familiar with street culture. and the burden is on the State to prove their case. the defenes doesn't have the burden of proving anything. it's all the State's responsibility. the defense is just there to make the State's case look inaccurate, etc.

Partially correct; however as to an all white upper class jury is not correct… the accused is entitled to a jury of his or her own peers… this long process in the beginning last for about 2 days… it’s called a jury selection the attorneys get to question each possible juror … the attorneys have the power to eliminate a possible juror for forever reason. Both sides have to agree on 12 jurors and I believe 5 alternates

​@@StaffordGarrettI dont imagine every single juror was necessarily upper class, but i do know theres a longstanding tradition of prosecutors using preemptory strikes to get rid of black jurors, believing they are less likely to find police completely credible or generally convict someone. The defense has some ability to fight this, of course, but it's a longstanding issue in our system. Obviously, I don't cosign what these people do, but a thing i really like about this channel is, unlike a lot of LawTube channels that give the perspective of ordinary laypeople not in this sort of life or the practitioners of law, i get the perspective of people who have been defendants and feel overwhelmed by what is, truly, a very powerful federal system.

Also, the actual letter of the law does say a "jury of his peers", but the law is interpreted to simply mean "other citizens who are eligible for jury service", not "people like you in terms of socioeconomic status or race". For better or worse, there's no way most of these defendants could ever get a jury of true "peers", since the majority of those featured in the cases on this channel are already convicted felons, who are ineligible for jury duty seven years after their conviction.

Never been to Chicago but I bet it's like every other city in that the Money is on the Northside (the folks) and Poverty is on the Eastside (us) across the tracks if you from Los Angeles. Well on the Northside of town, homes and businesses are valued at above average rates. They pay more taxes too. And for that they get, better schools, roads, shopping, air, water and Policeman. Do a crime, any crime and the Police are on it. And if someone gets murdered, the entire force will be deployed because those people in that community likely know the Police Chief, the Mayor and maybe even the Governor. Committing a crime on that side of town is not the crime you'll get away with.. Now to the Eastside or Southside, there is not a lot of resources available. The High schools are basically Drop out Factories. The businesses, Gas Stations, Liquor Stores, Pawnshops, WIC, Dollar Stores etcetera. Sure they pay taxes too, but Police only come over there to look for somone or set up speed, seat belt and insurance traps. When something goes down, the Police will show up and take statements but they are not in any rush. Also, God forbid someone is shot, the Paramedics have to wait for a Police escort before they go in to treat the victims. Oh, the Paramedics around my way also wear level 4 body armor. If you want to do a crime, it's this part of town where you would do it. No one cares unless they are personally affected. And because these folks know that the Police don't care about their loved ones, they do their own Get Back. So Gangs run it. That's why the Hobos did their bidness where they did it at.
