i was 13, delivering newpapers, hot, clear blue sky and i could hear this song on the radio because it was summer and people had a screen door or the door was open and ppl sitting on the porch talking. today’s society has missed out.

This was my late wife's absolute favourite song & our wedding anniversary was the 4th of July. She has been gone over eight years now & I still think of her every time this song comes on! I know she is smiling down as I type this, she had the most amazing smile!!!

My dad played in a band just after high school in the early 70s that played a lot of Chicago covers, including this one. In 2018 they did a reunion for a week including a couple of public gigs, and I was lucky enough to get to join them on trombone (we did Beginnings and that was a blast!). Last summer we did it again, and played Saturday in the Park (and Beginnings!) again, this time with my then 2 year old son in tow, and he loves this song now as well, because he heard it from "daddy and grampie's band".

ahh real music. man I miss growing up in the 1970's Chicago was always on the radio, LONG GAS LINES, HOT summer days No AC in cars windows down, 8 track players and mainly radio, night time TV was welcome back cotter, Good times, Happy days, Brady bunch, Gilligan island, threes company, love boat, fantasy island, lost in space, SAT MORNING CARTOONS school house rock, Under dog, looney tunes, Hannah Barbera, Hong kong phooey, banana splits, movies Jaws, star wars. creature double feature GODZILLA, free lunches for is kids in the summer months .

you have no idea how much this (and others of Chicago's) tune means. I graduated h.s. 1976. i hounded our marching band/chorale leader, mr. vince corozine, to get S.I.T.P. to be played at football games. You see, I was a flag twirler and wanted to share my fave band with everyone. well, it worked!! we created a new routine, the band played and everyone cheered at the games. i still feel that when i hear this tune. xoxo always

You MUST listen to the first 2 albums from Chicago then; the first one was called "The Chicago Transit Authority", and the second one is a silver tone type cover with the "Chicago" logo. HIGHLY RECOMMEND these two, and "The Very Best Of Chicago" which is ALL their greatest hits!

During Covid I play this every Saturday. It lift's my spirits and reminds me of another time in 1972. I was a young single mother husband off in the war. I took the weekend's off and did all the programs: soccer mom, football, etc. Then again in 2015 when I started my PhD program. I studied during the week and could take the weekend's off! We saw them open for Jimi Hendrix at the L.A. forum. 1st show appearance on the west coast. Band called themselves,CHICAGO TRANSIT AUTHORITY. BAD A*S GROUP. Im pretty sure Hendrix gave them his blessing. 7- 4 - 2020. Grampa Nando.

I shared this song with a friend about 2 months ago. Sharing music is my biggest love language. In that moment I was caring for my actively dieing grandmother full-time. Music like this held me through all of that. What I commented for though was that, Gram ended up transitioning on the 4th of July, 2024. I find it so ironic and yet still comforting to know she is with gramps. Maybe it's always Saturday in the park for them now 🩵✌️ I know you're still protecting me, I feel you around all the time 😘

Was number 1 in 1972. Became a gold record the same year. Robert Lamm said he was taking footage in Central Park in 1970 and got the idea for the song!

I used to listen to their album the heart of Chicago 1967-1997 a lot in spring of 2006 out on a soccer field when my dad was a referee in a local soccer team on Saturdays and I would accompany him just to watch the trains pass from the distance while at it because the railroad tracks were close by…this song felt very fitting and it was one of the most peaceful and fun times in my life

Chicago was my favorite band as a teenager. Back then I liked their 80's stuff now I like their earlier songs more.

The 70's was the "BEST" time in Chicago! Devon Avenue was a Blast! Best stores, restaurants & friends. I feel sorry for these kids nowadays. They don't have a clue!

Exactly. Chicago was such a great city to grow up in. Senn High School and Devon and Sheridan and the club called It's Here and the Club Laurel on Broadway near Foster. Great memories..

I went to the Chicago concert on the summer of 2005 or 2006(Sorry, as I get older every year, can't remember things! :-))...I remember the ice cream truck speakers' playing "Saturday in the park" I remember it vividly because I had a bad tooth headache while i was there.

For some reason this song conjures up memories of watching Harry Carey and the Cubs on WGN circa 1984, some Saturday afternoon game in the dog days of summer.

This was a 1970s song and we would go to the Park for the 4th of July fireworks... ohh yeah such awesome memories..I was a teenager.

I’ve had this song stuck in my head for months now. I heard it on a muffled speaker in a store and did not know which song it was, and no one knew what it was was humming. It was not until today that I discovered the name and now I have the ability to listen to it whenever I want. I am glad this quest is over and that has led me to a fantastic work of art :)

Released in 72, we had the original band present on this great song. Robert Lamm is superb on vocals. Just a happy fun song, You feel like it is Saturday afternoon!

Possibly the last really good Chicago LP. I enjoyed them up to this point. That being said, I really dug their concert in South Bend back in '73. Paid $3 for bleacher seats at Notre Dame.
