There was an official groundbreaking Monday for "400 Lake Shore," the site that was supposed to become a high-rise known as "the Spire." FULL STORY: abc7chicago.com/post/towers-b...
@@MilwaukeeF40C Not many live in these kinds of places. They are invesment pieces. Sometimes the engineering in the aparment themselves isn't good at all.
Could be worse Could New York City where they are trying to force a rent cap and "good reason evictions even after the lease is up" forcing landlords to jack up rents now literally trapping people into slum apartments as the taxes on landlords and banks keep going up the city just started unknowingly kicking out the population.
😂Chicago is a crime city Why would they even invest into a dying city? I grantee those 2 towers most citizen won’t be able to go inside. But only Gov employees
When are they going to start construction on the Tribune East Tower skyscraper? It's been approved for quite some time, but no construction yet to begin??
It’s just an office building😂😂 In a crime city😂 These news outlets are stupid talking about building Most citizens won’t be able to go inside😂 Chicago is a failed city
@@MiggerPlease It’s because of people that don’t like taking care of their communities. But I get what you’re saying, and we need to start taking care of our city and each other if we want more investments.
@@nathanwilliams6359is this representative of the year they were founded feet, Oklahoma City will never be a comparable metropolis like Chicago or New York
@@ChiraqMaybackMMG Salesforce Tower which would be 6th tallest in all of Chicago and its 140 skyscrapers 🙌🏼👏🏼 I wouldn’t talk so much with your migrant issues rising 😂
This will be similar in design to the Steinway tower on 57th street in New York, by Shop Architects. This appears to be a practical handsome solution for the site, both of these towers could offer a striking, sophisticated look for the skyline of Chicago.
Well, it obviously won't be as exciting as if the Chicago Spire got built but those planned new towers and a nice park are still just as good in getting that location to be in good use.
The original spire building looked like a giant drill bit but an interesting design nonetheless, the two to replace look quite nice. You're going to make Jacksonville, FL very jealous!
Chicago Spire design kinda reminds me of Lakhta Centre in Saint Petersburg, the tallest building in Europe now -- completed 5 years ago and still not filled with tenants and clerks.
The spire was a magnificent building. I remember seeing the first renderings way back in 2000 when they were showing it and I fell in love with it. I wish it could’ve been built, but unfortunately, it ran out of funding. Really looking forward to seeing the new one that they proposed there and its old spot I’ve been it’s gonna be gorgeous. I can’t wait to see the park. ❤❤❤❤
@@bchin4005 nearly every Architect has missed the mark in their career. But craftsmanship went out the window decades ago. Costs dictate the ability to bring these designs to fruition and nothing else.
the insurance for tall building went up because of 9/11 and every one was worried that big building would be a bigger target and thats what cause the halt of that building
That may be from your chopper years ago. Shows image of a half built vista tower adjacent to the apt Coast I lived at in 2018. That hole was very obvious to those in new east side as well as streeterville as you mentioned. But failed to recognize the locals awareness and showed rather old chopper footage touting it as new. Cheap reporting
It will be entertaining to watch in 10 years or thereabout, how one or both of the towers have started to lean at an alarming rate. Provided of course, they actually get built, not having fallen victim to the same dynamics that nixed the spire.
Now those are much more attractive than most skyscrapers, which are just ugly square boxes. Although the proposed tower was also quite attractive. The site presently looks like a manmade sinkhole.
Thank GOD the Chicago Spire never made it above ground level! The original design was quite nice (Fordham Spire!) but it evolved into a phallic Santiago Calatrava vanity project. The design was giving total “pick me” energy and did nothing to complement its surroundings. The new towers are classy and create a gateway to the city. SOM has given Chicago many great skyscrapers and I anticipate they will pull them off tastefully.
Chicago dodged a bullet with that one. Calatrava designed another "swirling tower" in Malmoe (southern Sweden) "Turning Torso", that went over budget by so much it aint even funny (cost 900 dollars per square foot BACK in 2004) Even with todays apartmentprices (more than double in Malmoe compared to 2004) they couldn´t turn a profit...
Wow chicago is catching up with newyork whenit comes to skyscrapers. What i like in chicago is that cannal oh well we bought wish bought cities progress and prosper more together with its community
