I met Chick at juilliard in 1960 where we had to hide practicing jazz because it was taboo there then...his genius was very evident even then... I've had the honor and pleasure of touring, recording, playing with him over 60 years I am so gratified .....December 2020 we had finished 4 piano/flute duo tracks on three of his favorite classical composers... perhaps it will be released as part of his illustrious legacy...Hubert Laws
Hubert, your version of Rodgers Grant's "Morning Star" is still in my ear as one of the most charming jazz pieces of that period or any other period. Everything and everybody on it was perfect - the epitome of straight-ahead jazz at its best. I was a radio music host for 25 years, and that was one of the first tunes I featured when I started out as a DJ.
Monteverdi was reincarnated as Bach who returned as Mozart who reincarnated as Berlioz who returned as Ravel who reincarnated as Chick Corea. This is part of Seal #7 of the 7seals.blogspot.com - only the returned Christ & Albert Einstein reincarnated could produce that. It's triggered The Apocalypse/ Revelation which is NOT the 'end of the world'.

Corea talks about all these great composers, but he is one of the best since his first album in 1968, "Now he sings, now he sobs". A modest man, a model to follow!
You may be right, but Corea for me is only music. If I want to talk, discuss or philosophized about religion I would never select Corea nor any musician for such transcendental topic.
Gents, we must be able to separate the musician from his religious choice. It was absolutely wrong for Germany to ban him from performing at one time based on his religious beliefs, and I am a devout Christian.

@@BradWatsonMiami Italians have a saying that applies to your little hyperbole about composers with disparate styles: "Si non e vero, e ben trovato." ("Even if it's not true, at least it's well-phrased.").
I think what I like most about Chick's solo piano playing is that....well, where a lot of other players would be demonstrating technique Non-Stop, he kind of focused entirely on a compositional, through composed type of improvisation with bursts of technique. Some other players would be thinking, "I better keep that left hand going all the time so they know that I'm really badass". Not realizing that they're just cluttering up the arrangement. Corea just always seems to have these nonstop brilliant ideas, and that takes precedence over the tendencies of the instrument itself. Pretty much all of his arrangements of tunes are like the playful movement from a concerto or suite, essentially, always giving the audience what it wants - something different and exciting.

@@deanronson6331 This is very important stuff. I AM Albert Einstein reincarnated and the returned Christ. Have you read 7seals.blogspot.com ? WARNING! Today may be your Judgment Day.
Goodbye to one of the giants of improvised piano. A generous soul who let us into his practice sessions during the pandemic, letting us see him as the tireless student--and master--that he was. Nobody had a better feel for capturing Monk's spirit with his own inspired percussive touch. A great concert to experience his versatile gift. Another huge loss in a year of tragic departures for the jazz world.
beautiful piano wonderful to hear solo without all the noise, so that you can really really hear all the awesome ideas that he plays. you could just listen all day and still want to hear more.
There are indeed people out there that give this performance a thumb down?! Amazing. how little they know. So sad. Just try to transcribe one song and the entire universe of music will reveal itself to you with all its beauty, richness and complexity. Chick's interpretation of Waltz for Debby alone proves what a creative master improvisor he is. I bow my head before Chick Corea, one of the most important pianists of our lifetime. Long live the Chick!
Chick's musical mind was an inexhaustible source of improv ideas, many of them created on the spot. That's why another superb improvisor and virtuoso, Gary Burton, found him to be a kindred soul.
I wish people would realize check on far right is comments not thumbs down. I saw Chick 3 times over the years and yes, he was phenomenal never to be forgotten. He always had fun and played with the music and we were lucky to take the ride.
The blessings of my non-freewill period of life was to be forced to listen to my father's record collection which included all the artist Chick celebrates here! Thank god!!!
Isn't it funny how our parents are totally uncool and ignorant about everything when we interact with them as youngsters, and then, as years go by, they seem to learn so much.
I think this concert is pre-planned. In that sense, it's CLASSICAL, with Jazz touches. Beautiful and very RICH. Arcadi Volodos should take on Corea's work, as he has done with Evans. Listeners in classical venues need to hear this brilliance! Best work of his life, to me. It is a great summation. The Mazurka is full of rubato, which adds great feeling. Why did the metronome take over in classical music??? Corea has totally enlivened Chopin. Evans did the same with his music. Long live RUBATO
it would be great if chick corea made a tribute to michel Petrucciani. Music by michel Petrucciani interpreted by the great chick corea. What do you think ?
Aí você abre um vídeo aleatório do Chic Corea e aí ele já inicia com uma interpretação saborosa de Desafinado!!! Ah! Não se quer mais nada na vida assim!
I performed with Joey 4 years ago in Boca Raton. I think he's Bill Evans reincarnated - somebody has to be. Monteverdi was reincarnated as Bach who returned as Mozart who reincarnated as Berlioz who returned as Ravel who reincarnated as Chick Corea. It's triggered The Apocalypse/ Revelation which is NOT the 'end of the world'. Synchronism: 12/14/20 13:40 Right when I posted this, Chick said, "Bill Evans".
Reading the description of music in this video to learn what Bill Evan’s composition followed Duke Ellington’s Sophisticated Lady, it was clear that the description was foe a different video in which a chick performed his Children’s songs. You may want to change that...
