I was on my way to the supermarket today when I heard this song on the radio and I kept driving around the block to hear the whole of it. Thank you, Mr. Corea!
I don't understand how it could be called a song? It has no structure or direction. I have just listened to the full nine minutes of this and to me it's like one long introduction that never quite gets into any kind of tune or melody that you can take away and hum, nothing that you could say to someone 'yeah, la fiesta, the one that goes like this!'. Because there is no 'this' to tell someone about... anyway I know there is one track of Chick Corea's that I like but I'm looking for it, which is why I'm going through his music here.
@@paulec2634this version isn’t the best to listen to and hear a structure. I love this song. But I’ll admit, this version had me lost. It’s so Bizarre to what the actual sound songs like. You need to go listen to a better version. I don’t know what Mr. Corea planned on this version, but even I had a hard time listening for the melody. I know what it sounds like, but it barely came up at all in this version.
Well that's why it's called a tune and not a song. But it's true if you don't know the 'original' version of la fiesta this one can seem somewhat abstract
I think this is my favourite jazz session of all time!!! Been looking for this a loooong time, since my VHS got burned by watching it again and again. Amazing. Timeless.
thanks so much for posting this superb performance.I`ve heard the solo version & R.T.F. but not this one.Ace trio.Love Chick`s touch & phrasing, always tell it`s him. So sad Chick`s gone.He will surely be remembered.
I'm so glad I made it a point to see him at Yoshi's in Oakland Ca. I was literally sitting less than 20 feet away. Chick and Lyle Mays are two of my ALL TIME FAVORITE Pianists and Composers. RIP Chick and LYle. Hopefully they're jamming together in heaven
What a creation. Oh my god. Great Korea greeetings from the land of Paquito de Lucia. I had the pleasure of listen to this song last week in a concert of Michel Camilo and Tomatio...guauuu what a song in the fingers of Camilo. Great Korea, thanks for your composition.
Impressive! Admiration for the protagonist but I think Maynard Ferguson's version is the icing on the cake! Listen Maynard Ferguson - La Fiesta on youtube and compare. More than a BIG like!
Woody Herman’s is great for straight ahead jazz too. But this pushes Chick’s tune inside and out and back again. Charts, we don’t need no stinking charts.
Cristian-Gabriel Ghinea I’ve known all these versions since the 70s. I have Maynard’s album with this, Gospel John and Chameleon on It. Had Return to Forever first but loaned it and never got it back. Never owned Woody’s
why mediocre? because they have different taste than yours? I find this music brilliant but uninterersting (but am sure that would be really exciting live) - and I thought so even when it was played. am I mediore only for that? or I had to say that you are mediocre because you have such a different oint of view on it? I wouldn't say - enjoy it!
Mediocre? Pretty salty. Chick Corea is incredible. I don't know much of Patitucci, but he laid down a great performance here. Weckl is one of our premier drummers today. So salty.
No one said the tune was mediocre...I was telling emilianoturazzi that the people that gave thumbs down were mediocre and he said just because they have different musical tastes doesn't mean they're mediocre...
