Leeks are milder than onions Kathy and should be cut length wise to see if there is grit and washed. My dad would cook them in butter with mushrooms and we would have them for breakfast with bacon and halved fried tomatoes. I love soup too 👍💕
best soup maker for leftover veggie =just throw it in the phillips and add salt pepper onion garlic ginger or chicken boullion and Let the phillips soup maker do its job. This is 2020 technology at its best
Looks good but I think that the machine should have a button for no chopping as well. On the chunky, it didn’t leave you with a solid noodle....they seemed to be pulverized. I just think that sometimes you want a creamed soup or chunky but also a hearty non chopped soup sometimes. Also being able to do chunky or creamed then being be able to add solid pieces after and turn off either one of those functions and just cook the rest of the way. What do you think?
I think you have a great point, Debbie. I think they need some kind of way to stir it, though because the heating element is on the bottom and comes to a boiling temp right away. But yes, it would be nice to be able to add more chunky or fragile things as you finish it up. I was thinking maybe two types of blending options would have been nice. Maybe a blade like it has for blending cream soups and then an option to use something like a paddle for just mixing. I'm with you on this idea.
I want to see butternut squash soup & chili as soon as you will! That chicken noodle soup looks so good! I'm not a bit disappointed!! Veggie soup & tomato soup (both chunky & smooth). I don't ask for much do I....but I just love soup so much!! We have a restaurant that serves a soup bar 5 days a week. They have 6 to 9 different kinds of soup & I just love it! But I want to make my own. I like to eat 1/2 of what I make & put the other 1/2 in the freezer!!!! Mmmmm!!!! Tell me, is your soup maker the large or small size? Thank you again Kathy!!!! hugs, & smiles, Judie
I think I'm liking this more than the VITA-Mix. I was so not liking the VITA-MIX because everything was just creamed and the heat for the soup was just from friction from the speed of the blade. This seems to be much more practical.
Using a blender to heat soup is a gimmick. Blending long enough to heat soup fills it full of tiny air bubbles, and I hate that. What's the problem with using the VitaMix to blend the ingredients just long enough to get the texture you want, and then dumping that into a pan to heat on the stove?
I have the instant pot Ace blender and it has a heating element on it. I make all kinds of soup in it. I cook the chicken right in the blender. You just set the timer and go. You can also leave it chunky or plus it for not so chunky, or blend it smooth. I love that thing.
I need to try this one soon! Not a fan of green beans but I think putting them in chicken noodle soup is a great idea! Not a fan of celery either but I eat it in soup. Anxious to see more soup videos!
Oh Kathy, thank you, thank you for starting to make the soups in your soup maker!!!! I love soup but I want to see you making soup in it BEFORE I spend the money on one! I'm hope this is just the beginning of the many soups you will create for us!!!! Hugs so tight, Judie
Thanks, Judie. I'll be giving it a good workout so you can see if you like the way it works. I plan to try cream soups, chunky soups, sauces and some smoothie and drinks too.
@@kathyottersen8100 That all sounds wonderful to me....as you can see, I have been watching (checking several times a day) to see if you had started making the soups yet! I doubt I will miss a single video...but, I hardly miss any of your & Rick's videos! I love them!!!! xxxooo, Judie
No, I rarely add salt because of health reasons, and I sometimes add pepper and other herbs, but sometimes I want to enjoy the flavors of the fresh vegetables and other components of the recipe without seasoning it the same way every time. Feel free to make it your own.
I love this new gadget! I love soup too! I make soup every week. But it is hard to make small amounts. I have dietary problems so I eat a lot of soup and I drink bone broth every day. But I need this it looks perfect for me. Looks easy to clean too.
Thank you. It's super easy to clean. I'm still learning on the different types of soup. The only disappointing thing to me so far is the volume of how much soup you could make at one time. Like you, I also lie to make a big batch and eat some for several days. This makes two very large bowls for a batch. But I'm going to remain open minded to this appliance will help you get more variety in a short time.
Hi Kathy, this soup looked delicious! I was wondering how much smell gets out of the soupmaker while it is cooking? Is it pretty sealed/no smell until you open it or is it closer to having a pot on the stove? I have severe nausea and have been trying to find some way to be able to make more food at home. I am on a restricted liquid/purees only diet so this would be right up my street if the smells are pretty contained. I use my hot logic all the time after seeing you use it and it has been a life saver for me! But if you notice anything about the smells on this I would really appreciate any info you could share (or any other appliance/ device that cooks with low/no smells?) I live in Canada and often have to special order these things so it's nice to have the info ahead if possible :) I hope you and Rick have a very Happy New Year! I really appreciate all the recipes you share and have made and adapted many over the past couple years so I can eat them. Thanks, and I hope 2020 brings you only good things :)
Thank you for the great comments and questions, Annie. We are happy we could help with your cooking to make your life easier. Ok, there is some steam that escapes a little from the spout, but very little. You could tell that something is cooking in the house though. You won't get the smell like a boiling pot of stovetop soup until you open the lid. So I don't know if that's enough of a difference for you. I find that cooking in a pressure cooker of some kind is pretty contained smell during the cooking time. You might get the indication that something is cooking, but you won't get the full blast of the fragrance of cooked food until you release the pressure. So that might be a good thing to try. If you don't have a pressure cooker yet, there are lots of different brands which you can watch on both Rick's and my channels. I'm glad the hot logic is working good for you. We love it too! Thanks, Annie, Happy New Year to you too!
I know this is an older video. Do you still use it. I’m going to pull mine out and reviewing your instructions. Do you know if it will cook cut up raw chicken? Love this recipe! For me, use dill instead of thyme. Mom used to use fresh dill.
Yes, they did cook, but they were small and I had cut through the bigger ones. If they were large carrots, I think I might run the cooking cycle twice or at least a partial cycle. Good question!
I have this soup maker. I have never made chicken noodle soup or the corn chowder I also watched. I can’t wait to try them. I like to cook and freeze. It’s still in the 80’s in the Tampa Bay Area but any temperature is great for soup! I’m getting some great ideas ahead! Please make more soups in pot or with this!
I love this soup maker! I love soup! I need a bigger size! Thank you for sharing! The frozen noodles usually do really good in soup. Those are my favorite for soup. Thank you both for all you do I love both of your videos and especially when you do videos together!
Right, they didn't hold up as well as I thought they would, and I didn't add enough to be able to see them. They were in there, but few and they were soft. First, I should have added more noodles, but I came up to the fill line, so I could have added less of some of the other ingredients to make more room for the noodles. And next time I will use a more sturdy noodle, perhaps a bow tie. The egg noodles proved to me too soft, I believe.
if you wanted it a little smoother just keep your finger on the blend button and let it whizz for a few seconds depending on how much smoother you may like it
the chicken noodle soup looks very delicious Kathy. Was it piping hot? I didn't see any steam. Can it make bean soup... I guess a ham bone won't fit so maybe use salt pork. The handle is nice for on the go / arthritic hands.
Thank you, it was delicious! Yes, it was piping hot, It was boiling in there. Yes, you can make bean soup, I'll be showing some more of the chunky type soups so you can see. I have one planned for tortellini and veggies, broccoli and cheese, Chili and more. But icksnay on the hambone. LOL No bones could be used because of the blender blade. You can put chunks of meat in there though. The handle is great for pouring into a mug or bowl, but not for on the go because there is a spout shape to pour, and although it closes tightly, I wouldn't carry it around in case it leaked out the spout. Some steam escapes at that area. Thanks for your great questions, Susan!
Thanks, I'm working through maximizing this appliance. I'll be doing demo's on lots of different types of recipes to see how they come out. I'm learning as we go. LOL Check out my Viennese Hot Chocolate video too. Who would guess to make that in a soup maker, but it was delicious.
Thanks, Yes so easy to clean, i actually blended some soapy water, but also the bottom and inside are smooth and easy to wash. I appreciate your comments.
You can add all the spices you like. I always hope people will use my basic recipe as inspiration for their own creativity. I enjoy the flavors of the ingredients and don't always find it necessary to add spices, although that would be nice too.
right, sometimes I like to taste the soup before seasoning with salt and pepper. Also, I cook in a low sodium manner to help the family keep a healthy blood pressure.
OOps you over loaded your soup kettle, your pieces were far to big, when opened up the soup kettle it was covered all over the body of the soup kettle,if you had put your soup kettle into smooth more your soup kettle would have seized up and closed down if your were lucky, but also it could have done serious damage to your soup kettle,I am not trying to criticise your efforts,I am only giving you a bit of advice, making large batches of soup make in a slow cooker or make it a pressure cooker for speed and blend in a blender,or use a hand blender, making soup in a pressure cooker is lought faster and better cooker by far, soup kettles are only made for one purpose soup, pressure cookers can do a lought more, same for a slow 🐢 cooker, if used properly, slow cooker give a better flavour because the food cooks slowly but releases the flavours slowly, and gives a better finished meal by far, pressure cookers are the formula 1 cooking utensil in the kitchen for speed and performance,a big pot of soup in a pot on a stove would take roughly 2 hours to cook properly, pressure cooker 40 minutes to do the same job,but slow cookers give you time to do other things without having to stand over a pot,put the ingredients in switch on and walk away and do other things with your time ⌚,as the saying goes horses 🐎 for courses 🏇
Right. Well the soup came out good, but normally I would make my own bone broth or cooked the chicken raw when making a big pot of soup. I guess I have to say this appliance has a function that is based on making a small batch of soup and rather quickly. I have a cookbook that came with the Philips and Rick bought me two other cookbooks for the soup maker. And every recipe for soup containing chicken or turkey involves meat that is already cooked. That was surprising to me too. But I'll be experimenting, you can be sure. Thanks for commenting. This was my first run with the soup maker, but I'll be testing it out in different ways.
I really love electronics and robots but that soup is just ridiculous, I mean obviously I'm gonna buy it but no for that reason, it's incredible that you're unable to make a decent soup by yourself, that's soup is just a joke I'm sorry but you just disappoint me, what will be the future of the new generations, cheers.
