Good vid. Couple of points -- - for the feeder, just block off the bottom of the Y. Preferably with a mesh or hardware cloth to allow dust drainage. Plenty of options, there. Screws/Nails/Brads to hold up some hardware cloth. Stiffer hardware cloth shaped to sit in the hole and allow the cap to be removed for cleaning. You can even stick a board leaning to the back of the pipe to provide an angled floor or slide. - You only need the purple stuff on PVC meant for pressure, like water pipes to a house. The purple softens the PVC so that the glued ends become 1 unit. Acrylic workers do a similar thing with their "glue" products. It doesn't hurt to use the purple in this waterer, but it is optional unless you are connecting to way more pressure than those nips can handle. - For those looking for PVC, the common gauges (wall thickness) are 120, 40, and 80. For whatever reason, 120 is the thinnest, and 80 is the heaviest. 40 gauge is the most commonly used PVC piping in every application I am familiar with. ALSO, there is the usual white and the UV resistant black PVC. Both are suitable for potable water, but sunlight will make the white pipes brittle.

I found that my feeders hold water when it gets wet and the food will mold. Had to only use them inside my coop and put lids on them at night to keep down the mice.

❤ love your crafty ness, suggestion on your pvc feeder, if you find them waiting food , you can insert a half moon 🌙 shape into the feeding end that will deter them from scraping it out, I have seen someone do that and it seems like a great idea 😊🎉🎉oh yes on the watering thing , water cups they have as well and they seem great for splay beaks❣️

How and where do you install the half moon,, top bottom or side of the end. How do you install to keep it form coming out. My hens completely dump four entire tubes in one day onto the ground.

I bought a bunch of those water fittings, which all worked alright for a while. But within a few months they all started leaking and I loss all the water in my tank. I switched to some that have a little cup for the water to sit in and those so far haven’t gave me any troubles yet. Think the chicken like the cups better too! I’m curious how the heating the pipe worked for getting your water chicken valves in the pipe. Any problems with the valves coming loose or leaking? I was able to get mine to screw into my pvc pipe. But after a while they somehow seem to strip out and spin around just from the chickens pecking at the water valves. Doesn’t seem like much is made with quality in mind any more? Still looking for the perfect long lasting solution that doesn’t have to be replaced every few years if not sooner?

They are probably 1/8th pipe threads.use a tap to cut threads in pictures pipe. I like the roost. Slick ! My coop is 4x5x5 tall rear 6 tall rear. Nesting box is on one end but I think I'm going to move it to the rear and put roost where box was.( didn't cut entrances to box yet ) . Now my roost will be where box was. Chicken entrance will be on opposite end of where box was so should work out fine. Should have made coop 4 X 8 instead of 4x5. First go around with chick's. I'm a wrench not carpenter. Lol Getr dun son

@@JoeSimple I have my roost (27" up) and poop board 8" below that and needed idea for mid-height "ladder" (not so much a secondary roost) to help the chunky ladies get down after a good night's sleep. Thinking to cut down to 1.25"x3.5" so NOT as comfortable for roost, but stable enough to offer a "jump-down" from roost OR an interior 2x6 with rungs, like the exterior "entry plank"; steep-ish, but they'll train to it ... I "incorporated" a 5'x4.5'x6' coop under an exterior shed roof where firewood used to go. Funny how many folk admit to having to train them to roost ... I am first time chickerder with 6 aquila in a big wally-world tub in the dining room with a heat lamp right now.

@@JoeSimple what’s a poop board?
@deirdre444
@deirdre444 Год назад
@@ultimatestewartfan A poop board is basically a shelf covered with something that is easy to clean (vinyl? linoleum?), that is installed under the roosting bars to catch all the poop the chickens put out at nighttime. Poop dries on the board, then you just scrape it off and compost it.

Most people are using 5 gal buckets for water Spicket’s maybe that why they didn’t want to work on the pvc. Putting those water hose ends on a hose. Heat is the trick. I get water almost boiling, stick hose in for a few, works pretty good. I liked the torch job on the plastic barrel!! Custom Fit!!

When you show water drum systems. Why don't you show how that system gets cleaned out? It's clear you can't just run water through there all the time without contamination build up over time. Especially rain water. Disinfecting the system every so often is important to health. Like we do with human systems for drinking water. This system of yours will not work in states with freezing temps in winter obviously. So, letting any water in the system sit in there for months will cause contamination in the spring. Show people how to clean it.

It's obvious you've never had chickens. Don't leave feed out 24-7, rats,snakes, birds , mice will be grateful. Skunks ,coons, cats, bobcats , possums, hawks, dogs, will get in your pen. One day you'll come out to feed , and find feathers everywhere, along with your dead half eaten birds. Sad but true. Also fox's , coyotes! You have rung their dinnerbell! Set livetraps to catch varments, and killem don't release em! Good luck!

I built my coop a few years ago using many of the ideas you have shown. The issue in Colorado is winter cold that freezes the water so I used cups rather than nipples as you have shown. Eventually had to go to a heated water system. The other issue is squirrels eating the plastic pipe so I switched to a metal manufactured feeder. You did a great a d simple coop and I am confident your chickens are happy with their home.
