I believe that grandpa did love grandma and he also probably knew about the coffee, he just had a grumpy attitude. The story is happening on the countryside in early 20th. century.

The First morning grandma makes cofee for grandpa and cikory for her. Real cofee was expensive so grandma make the next morning cikory for Both of then. Grandpa have no idea that he is drinking cikory. When grandpa past away grandpa children makes a real cofee. Grandpa told that he like it But that grandma cofee is the best. The story is hapening in countryside in early 20 century
