Wow, you're a freaking surgery resident, a mom, go gym, and also make vids. I need to get it together. Love how you also stay positive through it all, even the little inconveniences like your uber driver getting a flat tire or forgetting to bring an umbrella, you do it all with a winning attitude.
Surgeons are usually around very competent teams. Moreover, attendings and fellows plus mid-levels (PA-C and ARNP's) are usually on hand for the floors and admits, (and sometimes OR) for the OR if the right circulator and and awesome scrub is on call, that immediately alleviates ALLOT OF OR stress like a Lap chole- Ports picked per preference, Cut down-vs Verris technique for initial, entrance, and of course being ready for open procedures. yes it can get crazy and serious but the training prepares you to be calm, and for the most part whom you work with are pretty much top-tier in skill and professionalism. What I learned allot from residents was to always STUDY and be up on the latest tech, and newest guidelines, techniques and Rx in medicine. Best to you good doctor Sanchez in what you want to specialize in and family as we say in the OR "strong work"
I’m almost 32 years old and I’ve had it in my heart to go back to school and get into the healthcare field. I’ve thought about becoming a surgeon but I’m scared. You are inspiring me to quit being a chicken and start! ❤
I worked the 7p to 7a ER for years. You need blackout curtains in the room you sleep in. One of my docs even had a windowless room built in her house just for her to sleep when she had those crazy shift weeks. But since not many people can build a windowless room go for the blackout curtains - they are a lifesaver.
I'm a black woman, current M4 doing a gap year for an MBA, and will most likely being applying into surgery next year. I came across your vids a few months back and seeing you move through the ups and downs with grace gives me courage to take the leap into gen surg. Thanks for being an amazing role model and for giving us insight into what residency is really like. Amped for you to do plastics!
@@brandonbellino8896 Many potential reasons for it. 1. Administrators make more money with less work and far less liability then a surgeon. 2. Surgeons can pay $250k a year just for malpractice insurance. IF they get sued (they will), forget about it- $500k a year easy. It is smart to have a back-up safety net. 2. An MBA is always helpful. Many doctors go into private practice. Knowning more about business, accounting, finance is very helpful. 3. Why not?
@@kyadiary Well the dual JD/MD makes sense to me because a lot of medical schools actually have programs for that, they combine medical and law programs for people who want to be lawyers for hospitals and defending doctors in malpractice lawsuits and stuff like that. I’m just confused why someone who wants to be a surgeon and be in the OR wants or would need an MBA, not sure what they’d do with it as a surgeon.
You're amazing Dr. Sanchez. I'm currently a registered nurse who works in the cardiac/vascular operating room. I appreciate our surgeons and residents and how hard they have worked to get where they are. Thank you so much for your sacrifice in caring for our communities. You are a great example for your daughter.
I am a medical coder, and I am always so grateful for the amazing care the surgeons provide, and the sacrifices they make to do it. Few can work this hard and at this pace. Go Dr. Sanchez!!❤❤🎉🎉
Hi Dr. Daisy Sanchez! I’m a first year medical student and I love watching your content! Super inspiring to hear about your journey as a minority in the medical field, and getting to see your every daily routine with all the highs and lows! Hope you get some much needed rest this weekend and look forward to watching your next video!!
This is why I love being in the hospital. It's so comforting to be around great doctors like you and wonderful nurses. You're all wonderful to talk to...
i appreciate how in detail you go on what surgeries you did and also the medical terms but also telling us what they mean in “stupid” terms bc i had no clue what any of those words meant😂
Incredible to watch someone be the very best they can be, pushing themselves higher then thought possible I am sure. Such a great video for everyone to take motivation from. Be the best you can be?? I wish you much luck and love in your journey through life.
So much respect for what you do! I’m a dentist and watching this makes me feel pretty slack 😂 I have a young son though and get to spend so much time with him. Not sure how you do it all!
@@MissRiaRum We have a nanny. I only work 4 days a week and banker’s hours, so I get to see my son a lot. Lots of flexibility within dentistry, so you will do well. Best of luck with your studies 🙏🏻
I absolutely love these type of videos the every day heros so incredible. Nothing against the people that do youtube as their only job but its so inspirational seeing people with other jobs just kill it out there you must have so much energy good for you ❤
A work scheute like this as a pilot would not be pissible due to the increased error rate due to tiredness. Really do not understand why surgeons are allowed to work like that.
Maybe some black-out curtains will help you sleep better during day light hours, always worked wonders for me. Thanks for all that you do to help and heal others.
How is it that you are brilliant, beautiful, funny,, a mom, chief res, and overall good human being? I feel inadequate. 🤷🏻♀️ Thank you, Dr. Sanchez, for mentioning us Social Workers as part of the disciplinary team. We are often overlooked.
Trust me you only see the highlights - like everyone I'm sure I have many flaws! You are far from inaccurate and I highly respect social workers. I don't have the capacity to do what you do!
welp watching this video literally made me feel I have no excuse to ever complain again about waking up early. If you can pull this off and still manage life outside of work then surely I can wake up at 6:30am haha. love the video!
You absolutely are a Rock star! My surgeon's Rock as well ! And all the nurses and technicians! A big I am greatful ❤ hang in there you make a difference in this world 🌎
Idk how you do it! Being a doctor, surgeon, etc is such an amazing opportunity/career path, definitely not for everyone. But, Wow! You’re doing it and I appreciate you giving us a sneak peek at your life. I also noticed in alot of your videos how much learning you continue to do. Question….how do you handle family life? You’re always so busy and how does your fiance-daughter handle your busy career? ❤
Wow You Are Amazing Dr Sanchez 😇 This is my first time watching your amazing video you are so smart 🤓 you are mama and Dr God bless you and your beautiful family 🙏😇💖💙💖😇🙏
@@jenniferschaffer1625 Agreed. Medical mistakes happen often. Tools get left inside, etc. I had a surgery a few years back. I looked hard at my surgeon to make sure he was wide awake and not tired looking. He was fine. A single surgery I had a few years ago, I think about every single day. Surgeons banging out 10+ surgeries a day we are just a number on a 24/hr. calendar. NO. We are people. The quality of the job they do sticks with us for life. I still have the scares to prove it- and pain on occasion too.
I think there will always be a shortage of doctors. Especially with the insane taxes you need to pay to get through medical school and the other easy alternatives...I mean being an influencer is much easier and much better paid. 🤯 we will see what will happen in a few years when we will need doctors and instead we'll get influencers.🤦♀️
Love your content!!! I am also a resident and I feel you. You go girl! Also, your lighting is absolutely beautiful, which type of ring light do you use? Thanks!
hey Dr. daisy i love your videos and all your content but i am actually amazed by your work hours i mean 68 hours a week how can you like survive that also does that happen often or is it like once in a while? again super super dedicated for being able to do this.
Gracias por compartir su experiencia. Doy clases de inglés como segunda lengua y tengo estudiantes hispanos. Compartiré sus videos con mis alumnos para mostrarles que pueden hacer más de lo que creen.
Loved this lol. Studying to become a ST only on my prerequisites though. And they allow you to have nails ? Loveeee it thanks for giving us a glance 💕🫶🏽🥰
Could you make a video detailing what classes and your bachelors is on? I’m trying to do pre-med but I’m so lost as to what to do. It’s hard having kids and no family to support you here in the US and all the school counselors what you to jumó through hoops to schedule an appointment
Wow, that's is brutal. wish you all the best in your future Dr. Quick question if you have the time to comment on it. My younger daughter is getting her under grad, this upcoming May, she like the medical field, but she is considering not to perused to become a Dr. based on how expense would be , instead she is looking for the option of become a PA, based on your personal experience, it's worth to go the extra mile to chose a doctorate or continuous to go on PA program.. Thank you. Concerned Dad
Question, How you stay awake ? Like I wanted to study but somehow if I stay awake I get migraine. So I had to sleep. What do you do to stay awake with this much energy?
Hi doc, I have questions. My daughter is currently a pre-med junior majoring in Integrative Neuroscience. She’s currently anxious about what courses she needs to take for the MCAT and medical school because online sources and various advisors at her school are telling her different things. She was wondering if she needed to take Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, Anatomy, and Physiology. People are saying cell and molecular are going to be on the MCAT while others say it’s not required. They also said that medical schools love when students take physiology and anatomy, essentially boosting their application. Since she’s not a traditional biology major these courses would count as electives on top of her already required major and minor courses. Any help would be appreciated, thank you so much!
I notice in your video, you mentioned about appendicitis. Even though i still have my appendix and there's no problem, i just want to get it removed to get it out of the way so i don't get appendicitis. I can't imagine the pain!
Are these hours standard for your entire career? I want to go to Medical School (leaning towards Infectious Disease or Emergency Physician) but I am nervous that I cannot handle consistent 24 hour shifts now 😮
