I used to live in Marietta so I've been riding the Comet Trail since 2000, the first 20 miles out to Dallas get pretty crowded on the weekends. The trail from Dallas (mile 19) to Rockmart (mile 37) is probably the most scenic part of the whole trail and there are some good places to eat in Rockmart. I moved to Cedartown 2 years ago so now I ride the part that goes west to AL., it's 13 miles and I usually carry a small revolver with me for protection. If you go east from Cedartown on the trail the first 7 miles are very hilly, I ride my mountain bike on that part of the trail because my road bike isn't geared low enough for the hills. Not kid friendly so if don't like crowded trails that's the section to ride.

I’ve never been north of Rockmart on the trail 😐

When my son was in scouts several years ago we took the troop to Rockmart GA and road the trail toward Atlanta. We camped at an area very close to the trail. Great memories. I am going to try and get my son to go back with me.

Hi. I know that that this video is about 2 years old but I was wonderng if you found the parking in Aniston safe to leave your vehicles for about 2 nights. I am planning to ride the trails next spring and I want to ride an out-and-back like you did.

Do they have any bike rental places or people that will pick up you and your bike to return to your car? They have this at the Creeper Trail in VA so was just wondering.
@KentuckyCycling
@KentuckyCycling 3 года назад
Good question. There may be other bike rental places, but the one that I can verify from our ride is comettrailcycles.com/rentals-2/. To my knowledge, the shuttle service on the Virginia Creeper trail is somewhat unique and the pairing of the bike rental and shuttle service is built around the fact there is that long downhill stretch from Whitetop to Damascus.

Nice videos. Would it be possible for you to detail where you left your car overnight at the Anniston end and the hotels that you stayed at during your ride ?
@KentuckyCycling
@KentuckyCycling 3 года назад
There is a parking lot right at the trailhead in Anniston. The first night we stayed at the Country Inn & Suites in Hiram. It was clean with dinner options close to the hotel. The 2nd night we stayed in Cedar Town. The hotel was passable, but not a location I'd necessarily recommend so I'd rather not mention them out here.

Are you kidding me??? You guys were basically in my backyard. Well, about an hour south of me...SMH. I've been trying to get down there to make that ride forever and have been having trouble getting any one to draft with me on that trip! LOL! Anyway, excited to see your take on it.

Also, what kind of gimbal set up are you using? Enjoyed the video and looking forward to part 2.
@KentuckyCycling

No gimbal. Just a GoPro Hero 8 Black with a chest mount.

@@KentuckyCycling I’m subscribed with notifications turned on, so I got the notification 2 minutes before your replied, but thanks for the heads up! I have to drive a bus route this morning before school, so I’ll have to wait to watch it this evening!

Are there any camping areas or places along the trail to hang a hammock for the night? Where did y'all spend the night?
@KentuckyCycling
@KentuckyCycling 3 года назад
Hi Alan, We just credit card toured this one and stayed in hotels. There are definitely campgrounds (see bikesilvercomet.com/ for the amenities in each town), but I can't speak to whether or not you could hang a hammock in any of them because we didn't visit them.

Thank you! I did check in my subscription and it did appear this time👍. Most say that if you ever come to the Orlando / central Florida bring your gravel bike that I can take you to some nice gravel rides in this neck of the woods. Cheers!
