This song so powerfully demonstrates the frustrations of CPTSD, chronic illness & how gaslit many who live with both are dismissed. Both challenges lead into greater despair and depression. The gaslighting from the medical community can completely crush your soul.

Ren is fantastic at describing the human experience in a way that folks from all different walks of life can relate to. It's been a real joy to be reminded how connected we all are, how similar we all are, in fumbling and bumbling through the struggles we face, whatever they might look like.

Never stop waffling. Found your channel because of your Hi Ren reaction, but you've knocked it out of the park with the emotional connection to the music. I'm Autistic and ADHD with the severe anxiety that comes along from both of those/trying to exist in a world that isn't set up with my success in mind at all. There are days when it feels like no one understands how hard I struggle because, unless I'm having a meltdown, it's just not visible. So while I am VERY aware of how hard it is for me, it seems like everyone else thinks of it as petty and I really needed to hear someone say that it wasn't today.

There's a therapist on tiktok who actually acknowledges just how much of our mental health problems can be blamed on capitalism and how messed up it is that therapists will try to talk to patients about ONLY personal stuff while ignoring the impact that just living in capitalism does to EVERYONE. It's so affirming just to hear a professional admit this stuff. It's not always that we're just mentally ill or chemically imbalanced or have some unique trauma but we are traumatized by just trying to get by in a society that commodifies our lives and values us based on our impact on the GDP. Most therapists and doctors can't admit this though because 1) there's no actionable personal solution to not being equipped for a society not designed to allow for people like us, 2) their goal for us is not to make us mentally well, it's to make us well enough to be productive, and 3) they are "successful" aka the people most likely to believe in and support the system because they thrive in it.

The grunts at the beginning, with the music... That is hyperventilation. That is the feeling of anxiety, leading to panic. Ren is a master at using patterns of instrumental music, the cadence of words, and our... empathic responses to facial expressions, to build a highly emotional state in his listeners. Like in "Hi Ren", when his non-negative side started to doubt, and you could see the fear on his face. The opening of this song hits me, because I have generalized panic disorder. I have felt that panic so many times, and when it happens, it feels like it will never end. This just expresses it so well.

I am 65 and I can relate to REN. He is pure genius ! He regurgitates truth with every song he has. ❤❤❤

I like the fact that Ren doesn't separate himself from human responsibility. He is not just blaming the doctor. He is blaming all human culture. Including himself "I'm the virus", and "I'm doing the same".

If you ever got prescribed with anti depressants or struggled with substance addiction in another way I recommend you watch "Chalk outlines" by Ren and Chinchilla. Some people prefer the live recording, some like the animated lyrics video better. Personally I think the animated video hits different but the live version has it's own artistic vibe. Either way, it's a f*cking amazing song and my personal favourite in his library. Stay strong and stay awesome, looking forward to your next video already. Greetings from Germany!

I have watched a lot of Ren reactions, well you know, it’s Ren, but I have to say your reactions take the experience up quite a few notches! From insights, emotion and attention to detail. Imposter syndrome, I know it well. Still haven’t figured out how to make that better, but I am ok with the humility it brings. But I think that humility makes my own problems seem petty, to your point. So you have helped me to NOT sweep things under the rug (and Ren’s music for sure) and integrate them. After breast cancer 3 years ago then 2 years after that my husband passing away while I managed his passing with hospice help (I guess I was “strong” so they let me manage it all), I got to the other side of that stress and anxiety and kept telling myself I am fine. But honestly until I started listening to certain musicians and particularly experiencing your reactions I realized I had swept a lot under the rug. I probably wouldn’t have gotten to the other side without my sis, thank the gods for her, @RockChick Liz Thanks Chief! I’ve been battling my demons all my life and it’s always so bittersweet to bump into someone else in the dark. I feel no one is free from society's ills . Weather you are dealing with physical or psychological, or political issues. Having others who have, or are walking in your shoes to communicate with is everything. And having incredible music to bolster us along the way is magic .

Loving the waffle and yes Ren has had the biggest effect on my life. I struggle with lots of health stuff, mental stuff, i feel to tender for this world. Ren has helped me start to live with acceptance with my lot in life and relax the fight. Much love chief 🔥

Re: the Ego conversation 😒… I’m not an artist or creator; I’m an athlete. And I recently had an epic Ego battle during my own worst performance of a 15+ year career in the sport. When I was going through it, watching how awful I was, there were several times I seriously considered quitting and literally just walking away; right there on the spot, in the middle of the event. It took a huge toll, to swallow my pride, let go of my Ego, and just tough it out and suffer through the shame/embarrassment of it. And now, as my next event approaches, I’m low-key terrified of repeating the same thing… YES how you “feel” about things matters. So I’m a little newly obsessed w/Ren and his own beautiful perspective❤️

Another great reaction, thanks. Re: not being able to do the video, I have tried to start a youtube channel so many times and soon deleted everything. Insecurity -- "I'm not attractive. My voice is terrible. I'm not being clear. No one wants to hear anything I have to say..." I'm organizing to start a Substack -- maybe writing short essays will work better for me. The important thing is to find a way to get things out to like minds. That's probably the best thing about the Internet: we can connect with people who were out of reach before, and form communities and families of choice rather than location. Thanks again.

After Hi Ren and the Tales I feel that “criticism,” he could make every video ten minutes and we’d probably all still watch every second 😁 Honestly I saw a top comment that said we’re here for you, not the song, and that’s true. Very true….I have seen the video a dozen times and I listen to the song on a Ren playlist on loop 😂 Keep pausing, keep emoting. I think the only downside people don’t like about the pausing is we get anxious you’re not getting the full effect somehow, but so long as you set the video back a few seconds when you hop back in you don’t miss anything. Another fabulous reaction 🎉

I had undiagnosed issues that the doctors just pushed pills at me for a couple of years before they figured it out.
