Chief Reacts To "Sleep Token - Blood Sport" (From The Room Below) 

I was raised in one of those no crying, no emotions type of households. Growing up I stuffed everything down so deep that as an adult I can’t readily access my emotions in a natural way. I need something external like a song or a movie to access my emotions and Sleep Token has been that for me since I found them. Vessel’s voice, lyrics, and music, they touch my jaded heart in those places I’ve long since buried, and I find myself listening to this band whenever I feel the need for that kind of release. I can’t put into words how calming and profound this band has been for me, nor the effect that their music has had on me since I found them.

I think that Sleep Token are fast becoming the band and Vessel the singer to enable us all to reach into ourselves to access the feelings that we're otherwise scared to let out or show to other people and the lyrics have such a vulnerability and rawness about them that you can't help but cry. I'm torn between wanting to know who it was that hurt Vessel this bad and going to punch out their lights (which would be more like a very stern telling off because I'm not a violent person) and hugging Vessel hard enough to put all his pieces back together again. And I know what you mean about having a song in your head. More recently they've all been Sleep Token songs and the only way I can quiet them is to listen to the album the song has came from, as well as all the songs before and after the one in my head. They're really musically addictive aren't they?

You're right. This song can really get to you for many reasons. I lost my Dad to Cancer 18 years ago and before he died he wanted to tell us all something but we didn't listen and kept telling him he would beat it. Then he didn't survive the cancer surgery. I'm still wondering what he wanted to tell me. This song makes me think of the people I've lost. Vessel definitely wrote this about a true life experience. There's so much pain in this song. 😪

Bloodsport hits right in the soul man. He loves this person so much but knows that it's going to be very painful and that he's only going to lose. This song is tough. Deep raw emotion. It will get you. Yeah, it does feel like a warm blanket around you and a friend that understands. This chorus is one of my favorite written lyrics, ever. The delicacy of the keys at the end pulls on your heart strings. ❤

Fit For A King just dropped another song about a day old. It’s called “Technium.” This band is outstanding. This is one of my fav bands in metalcore.
