Detroit used to have some ethnic areas that transitioned to other ethnic areas. Hamtramck is a Polish neighborhood in Detroit, and to this day you can still feel some of those roots. Del Ray was a neighborhood in South East Detroit that was originally Hungarian, it is all pretty much Hispanic now. There is some very good Spanish cuisine and culture in the area now, but it is also considered a high crime / dangerous area. Back when I was teaching I had a student and her fiancée take me to a Mexican restaurant where you had to order in Spanish, pretty damn authentic IMHO.
