I really respect Kelce speaking out like this. Because he has no reason too. It's only going to make his relationship with hIS new QB more awkward. But he is sticking up for his friend and longtime teammate. I like that.
Jacabo Blanco he also knows that now his numbers will drop ..he had a great Chemistry with Smith that is not easy to replace . Smith would gun it even if he was triple covered ..I doubt mahomes can building that with him
If he and the other Chiefs wanted Smith to stay, they shouldn't have gotten eliminated (on their home turf) in the playoffs the last two years. Anyone who watched the last game against Denver saw Mahomes make plays that Alex Smith (and very few other QBs) are capable of making. On the game winning drive, Mahomes was being chased backwards, by Von Miller, and at the last second, pivoted on his right leg and threw a 30 yard dart through triple coverage to keep the drive going. Aaron Rodgers and Russel Wilson are the only two guys in the league who make that throw. Kudos to the Chiefs for having the guts to move on.
Well Smith and Kelce are two totally different people. Kelce's personality is a lot more parties and going out having fun. Smith is a family man with a wife and two kids. No doubt they're good friends, we all have those friends who are family oriented got kids and a wife. And some friends who are little crazy and want to go out all time
Alex Smith was a type of quarterback who stats really didn’t Indicate how valuable he was. Guy was a winner and just really smart with the football. Could’ve been so much more if his career wasn’t so detailed early on. But he came back and had a good NFL career and became a pro bowl QB
Alex is a warrior. he is someone that you would run through a wall for. He was screwed with our 49ers while he was here and STILL put the team first and handled business and in the end he was a the winner he always was here & in KC.
Funny how endless people respect Alex smith from players to analysts to coaches while Kirk cousins didn’t even get one farewell goodbye . The only person I think said goodbye to Kirk was Chris Thompson , but he even stated he didn’t know if Kirk was leaving or not . Redskins players are already saying smith is a leader and a legit qb. Yet people say smith sucks but has three pro-bowls . Smith early career gave him a bad rep .
Some of this is also personal. I don't know anything about Cousins off the field but I know enough about Smith to know everyone loves the guy. You can see it in Kelce's answer here, he's dropping hints that everyone just wants to see Alex do well. When Alex was in SF I was working at a job where I was in constant contact with bigwig types (Not one myself, but I worked for one). Think old guys with millions laying around who buy $10k seats at charity events and stuff like that. You hear things in that job. You hear who the good and bad ones are. The average jock is a C. Barry Bonds is an F. Alex was an A+. People blown away by how he treats others.
At one point he clearly was though Alex Smith is a good example of how your own team can make you look worse but it also showed is own desire to improve. At his lowest point 49ers fans were booing him and he didnt quit on the team or himself.
Dan USA out of respect the 49ers coaches didn’t give him a chance and there weapons where one of the worst ever . Lloyd was the only good player that left in 2006, Davis was there only good option. Than he had endless coordinators with terrible coaches and an awful Ol. Not even Peyton Manning would of survived that awful 49ers organization at that time . That’s the truth
@Rick Valentine if Alex smith was so good he wouldn't of lost his starting position twice. You think me as a chiefs fan will look at alex smith as good when we have QB like pat mahomes.
@@scoobydora699 i mean he didn't say he was bad dont make it sound like that. Also look at it froms travs point that was his dude just got traded the night before out of nowhere probably in his feels during this interview.
Writing was always on the wall with that, it wasn't like it was out of left field. Patrick Mahomes was ready and now Travis is a 2 time Super bowl champion.
Better hope this isn’t Smith for Kaepernick again. Big arm and okay wheels can burn bright but burn out fast. With Rivers making his final push, Gruden pairing with Carr and Denver’s defense finally getting a QB again... that might end up being a bad move Big Red.
James Green nah I don't think so atleast with the mahomes kap comparison. Kap struggled immensely once harbaugh was gone so if they keep Andy Reid he will be able to develop him well. But yeah that division is going to be tough next year and the years to follow.
gradeABigC no, technically it isn't at all. He is at work, in the stadium in his uniform. That's like saying you can't face backlash for anything you do in your companies parking lot... you're on the property. I'm not going to get into the politics of it, but the fact is he created a lot of drama and it negatively effected his employers. No one comes out of that with a job, regardless of what you do or who agrees/ disagrees with you.
Say what you want about Smith in the playoffs, but this year it wasn’t his fault they lost. The Chiefs defense pissed it down their leg, mostly because their front 7 has no real run stopper or pass rusher outside Houston.
Yes, you are right. I am also right in saying Alex's ceiling is Mahomes' floor. His best season was Mahomes' injury season. His best playoff game against Colts is every Mahomes game in the playoffs. I love Alex. Reid and he changed our trajectory, but at some point, you move on.
Bottom line, alex wont win u a superbowl.. if mahomes cant either, ya move on from him and keep looking for a qb that will. Standing still gets u nowhere
I mean shit if Nick Foles won it this year, the responsibility lies on the front office to build a team around Smith who obviously has talent with the Pro Bowl numbers he had.
So Alex smith the reason why SF lost the Champs vs Giants right? Learn the game. Alex Smith 'cant throw the deep ball' becomes the #1 Deep ball thrower, Quit being biased as fuck.
THAC0MANIC fact is had smith played in the super bowl against the Ravens I truly believe he wins it . He just is at his best in the playoffs and to me would of make a difference.
I love when people blame smith for the 2-5 playoff record when he had 14 tds and 2 ints in those games. It’s reid lol I love mahomes, but the chiefs are not gonna be as good. I hope it works out , but Alex is really underrated
As a raider fan I hate you for this Andy Reid. One reason was I really wanted to see Derek Carr finally beat you (a. Smith) on the road. Another reason is because denver will most likely nabb up Kirk cousins and then be able to draft the best player available at 5th overall... which could become saquon Barkley or Bradley chubb... etc... instead of drafting a over hyped qb prospect... Andy Reid just made it even more difficult even for his own chiefs team to win the division.
Stats for Alex's three years leading up to 2017... 2014 KC 15 15 303 464 65.3% 30.9 3265 7.0 217.7 18 6 70 45 229 93.4 2015 KC 16 16 307 470 65.3% 29.4 3486 7.4 217.9 20 7 80 45 235 95.4 2016 KC 15 15 328 489 67.1% 32.6 3502 7.2 233.5 15 8 80 28 140 91.2 Those numbers are why the Chiefs traded up and his awful playoff W-L record didn't help either. Before this year no one was praising Alex on his amazing stat line and throwing the ball downfield. If I were a betting man I would put my money on the old Alex coming back next year.
Sorry about those stats reading weird copied and paste. Basically he never eclipsed 3500 yards and the year we traded up was coming off a 3500 yard 15 TD to 8 INT year. Really no reason to call anyone a moron. I would say it wasn’t all Alex Smith’s fault on those playoff losses but when you aren’t a solution at the most important position on the field you are a big part of the problem. In everyone of those losses Alex had the ball in his hand with a chance to tie or go ahead and he didn’t get the job done. Someone that can’t get it done when needed certainly shouldn’t be paid 20+M a year simply due to not being able to build a complete team around him.
Id rather have Alex Smith back... you people are just like the ignorant San Fran fans and the wannabe ignorant Chiefs fans... Alex Smith is a killer QB... unless you have weapons for Alex you will all continue to blame him...
Sorry, Travis. Your ridiculous wages force these things to happen. The game is business, just like you would leave KC in a heartbeat if you were offered more money. So spare your "ain't tryin to hear it" statement.
Lost a lot of respect for the Cheifs for the way they disrespected Alex and i'm a broncos fan so I didn't have a lot of respect for them to begin with.
It doesn’t matter how hard you played kelce, your team was had made the playoffs 3 straight years, and been knock out, at home, and your boy, couldn’t move the ball against the titans. Get a clue, harbaugh kicked smith to the curb an went to the Super Bowl. This is the second time the head coach has kicked him the the curb, because they know THIS IS ALL YOU GET WITH SMITH. All the “numbers” were manufactured BECAUSE OF the players around him. Mahomes is an instant upgrade that is set to take you to the next level.
Rknee Gordon Couldn’t move the ball against the titans cause his best receiver TRAVIS KELCE GOT HURT ...... Patrick will take them to the next level? But you haven’t seen him play in more than 1 game foh Texas tech quarterbacks never pan out tbh but we’ll see if he’s different
At the time, all I could think was that at least we were going to get someone who would try to win games rather than trying not to lose them. I figured the Chiefs would collapse in the short term, go 4-12, but there would be some amazing plays. At least it would be more interesting than watching a guy with great arm and leg talent running through his progressions, and upon seeing no one wide open, checking down again and again. Assumed KC wouldn't be a playoff team for a few years, but that if this Mahomes guy could discipline himself, maybe he'd get them back to the playoffs eventually and with a higher ceiling, maybe KC could make an eventual run at a Super Bowl. Maybe about now. If someone had told me in 17 that Mahomes would be breaking records and by 24 people would be talking about him in the same breath as Brady and Montana, if someone had told me Brady would be retired and Belichick forced into retirement and the Pats in a state of collapse, while the Chiefs would be the new dynasty, I'd have been stunned.
the year he had 15 td's was when the chiefs had no running game so alex was the teams leading rusher and had 5 touchdowns as a quarterback that led the nfl in quarterback touchdowns ! once alex had a good running game he focused on throwin the ball more
