Chikungunya virus is a newly emerging vector-borne illness in the Caribbean, with the potential to spread into the United Staes. The virus can cause fever and severe joint pain, which can last from weeks to months. As treatment of Chikungunya virus infections is largely supportive, it is important to rule out other infectious agents for which targeted therapy exists. While testing options to detect Chikungunya virus exist, availability of such assays is limited.
