What to do when a child accidentally swallows a foreign body ?
Don't panic. Here is the suggestion.
1. Button battery, very sharp & large objects, symptoms due to object stuck in the food pipe and magnets require removal
2. Small objects, coin in stomach pouch etc may not require removal or requires removal if they are not moving out of the stomach pouch over period of time (assessed using X-ray)
3. Don't give anything by mouth until you reach a medical facility, because if the decision to perform endoscopy then this (not empty stomach) would delay the procedure
4. Don't panic; visit the nearest medical facility to consult a paediatrician, pediatric gastroenterologist or pediatric emergency physician.
