Child Labour and Poverty 

This short video sets the context for child rights and early forms of protection by placing them in the context of the first Factory Act, Child Labour and continuing poverty for children. With reference to the work of LSE historian Professor Jane Humphries, it is shown that children were as important to the Industrial revolution as coal.
Indy Bhullar, Curator at LSE Library, draws on archives within the library, including those of the Charles Booth and the Child Poverty Action Group, to illustrate how and why rights came in to protect children. Part of Sunbeams lesson 1.
