Is your child having trouble pronouncing sounds?
What sounds are normal for your child to mispronounce at what ages?
What age do we expect to see our kids to say the certain sounds correctly?
In this video, I share a helpful chart that breaks down each sound and the age we expect to see it pronounced correctly.
Do you notice that YOU are understanding what your child says, but OTHER people who aren’t around your child very much have to look to you to translate what they are saying? In this video, I am going to share this helpful chart that details exactly what sound errors are to be expected in normal speech development, what ages we expect to see them eliminated, and what sound errors are atypical and may require guidance from a speech-language pathologist.
To start, I’d suggest writing down a list of the words you notice your child may be mispronouncing.
If you have concerns, or are not really sure how to translate this chart to your child’s specific speech patterns, I recommend contacting an SLP in your local community to do an evaluation that is in depth and lets you know exactly which sounds are the ones your child may need support with and which sounds will likely develop with time for your child.
I anticipate getting comments with specific questions about your specific child. I wanted to make it clear that I will not be answering specific questions about certain words your child says, simply because I’ve never met you or your child in person and, ethically, I would need to do a formal evaluation on your child in order to make any recommendations, and I currently do not provide private consultations for speech therapy.
The good news is, that you will be in great hands with your local speech language pathologist who can meet with you and your child and do an assessment to evaluate where your child may need support, and they will come up with specific goals and activities to help your child achieve the progress in speech sounds your child needs.

In California call your local Regional Center for a free evaluation for children are under 3. Will also evaluate physical delays. Over 3 contact your local school district

My 17 month old son says "wawa" for water. He calls milk "mahkah." When he asks to be picked up, he says, "peeeek up!" :) I'd love to know...what kinds of things are your kids saying these days?

My daughter too says wawa! And traintrain for train, and bottle bottle for water bottle or milk / baby bottle. I think most of her mispronunciations are in French though, a language only spoken at home, and she's 3 so I guess this will pass.

My little one couldnt say mama/ mommy until 2 1/2. He says words like wader instead of water. Duss instead of bus, tups in stead of pups. He was also a preemie by ten weeks early but we had him tested at six months and again 1 1/2 and they say he is on the right track. He is very intuitive and Hands-On. So even though we had a little bit of a delay in pronouncing his words correctly he's still doing well. with the tips that I get from you and your website help me along as well by keeping him on track and educating him in the right direction so thank you

I’m not a native English speaker, but my kids are growing up in USA and totally are not getting the right accent as mine is not correct either. How do I help them correct it. Or should I just ignore it? They are 5 and 3. Please help!

Hi Adrienne. I tool my 3.7 yr old nephew to the park again. He was repeating every word I said. When I said bye car, he said bye car, etc. All of a sudden he said bye daddy. I thought he had seen a man and called him daddy. He calls all men daddy. I asked if there was a man around. Then I turned and my brother (his dad) was right behind us. As soon as he saw my brother, he decided not to say 1 more word. He did not repeat anything anymore. Do you have any idea why that could be? I've also seen his mom with a scary tone of voice telling him to use his words. Yesterday I told them you're supposed to say the words for him in a light tone of voice. Hope they listen!

Hi Holli! I used that app about 6 years ago when I worked in a school. I thought it was a helpful app. I used it for kids kindergarten and up, though. I don't have experience using it with toddlers, as I focus more on language development with toddlers, rather than articulation.

I love your videos! Can you post videos about stuttering? I have a question for stuttering... My daughter's grandfather once corrected her when she said "I I I want chicken" and ever since then she keeps saying like that not 100% but like 30%. It's been a few days.. I know she's not playing nor having fun doing this. Is it going to naturally go away?? She's just 20 months old. I'm concerned... 😟 Please reply me please please

Curious if there are sounds or a better order of sounds one should teach or focus on like in literacy they don’t teach the alphabet in order but s,t,p ... so kids can start putting those sounds together and deciding easy words like sat, ten, pin and feel successful quickly as they “read” more.

My son will be four on August 7 and his insurance is denying him therapy for speech and I can’t get my son to talk at all is their anything I can do to maybe help him or encourage him to talk? My son was diagnosed last October with ASD so that is most likely the reason he doesn’t but anything would help I want my son to be able to learn things like children his age are learning!!!!

My son is 2 and not talking... He used to say wa for water but stopped saying it he used to say a bunch of other words but has stopped saying them all together... what can I do at home to help cause with covid going on I don’t want to expose him

Today I took my 3.7 year old nephew to the park. I kept telling him say hi man, hi school, bye puppy, bye people. I noticed he would pronounce the last word, which is what I want. However, I also noticed he is scared of talking. I could barely hear him but I did hear him. How can I help?

He's probably not scared of speaking, he may just be soft spoken, which is ok. I am soft spoken, but I can still communicate. Also, honestly, he may be feeling pressure from you. I don't recommend saying to children: "say this and say that." Yes, you can model what to say, but I don't recommend insisting that kids say certain things. It isn't authentic communication, so that may be why he says it so quietly. He isn't initiating the conversation...you are. Instead, you can say all the things that you said, but just refrain from telling him to say it. Model what you want him to say, but don't say, "Say ____. Say ____." So you could simply say, "hi man, hi school, bye puppy, bye people" to show him what kinds of things he could say. Hope that helps!

she's a great choice if she's able to work with you but if she cannot I would look into your medical insurance or your pediatrician and they can give you a recommendation or a referral to where to go and assign you to a specialist will help your baby with his language or her language skills

@@LearnWithAdrienne Yeah, that wasn't very helpful but thanks. She's above average in speach development so no doctor will give me a referral to a speach therapist and haven't been able to independently research the answer to my question.

So my son says muhcok instead of monster truck. When he slows down he CAN say it. He just got used to saying it funny. I assume that's not the same as not being able to say it. Right?
