Good acting doesn't necessarily define if you will like or hate the character. Just the villainous nature is enough to make audience hate the character and good acting polishes it.
Who was actually right in this situation? What if they only have a "children's discount" for certain type of food and the restaurant didn't want to put the same thing with the actual price on the menu because that would raise questions.
@@FMMAGE No the restaurant is in the right here. They’re not making a big profit on the kids menu and Ricky doesn’t understand that restaurants need to make money in order to survive and pay their staff wages. They’re only offering kids menus at kids prices so that adults come in and pay adult prices. If they followed Ricky’s logic, they’d have to increase the price of the kids menu or get rid of the kids menu altogether.
@Suicide Booth You realize that this is a sketch right? Take it for what it is meant to do. Be a funny sketch, nothing more nothing less. Good day to you sir :)
My dad went to Steak and Shake one time, ordered his food and a shake. They had a habit of bringing out the food first and then the shake. Dad told them he wanted the shake first and the waitress told him they couldn’t bring do it that way. The manager said the same. So dad said ok, I’ll just take a milk shake then, I’m not hungry. Once they brought it out he said ok well I’m hungry now I’ll order some food. Of all the places in life to take a stand. SMH.
The pettiness at the end is something I can really get behind. Bad enough that they won't give it to him but to stare at the end to make sure he won't eat it is triggering. You just want to piss them off because they are pissing you off.
I would have waited til the little lad had finished eating and then fucked off with my plate of fish fingers and beans. "You want to bicker over trivial details well now you're down a fucking plate and fork!"
I'm a fully grown bloke, but I don't consume much sugar. I once went to the cinema and ordered a small coke, and a small popcorn - they gave me the kid's box. It was awesome - I got a free, crappy plastic toy and extra chocolate.
BearWithMe there’s actually nothing wrong with having a bit of sugar and salt in your system. Just as long as you don’t overconsume these and exercise daily and have a general healthy lifestyle, 5% or 20% won’t kill you.
Reminds me of the story of one lady at the bank. She wanted to withdraw 10$ but the teller said she could withdraw only a minimum of 100$, the lady said it was her money and she could take out how much ever she wanted but the teller refused. So the lady withdrew 100$, took 10$ and told the teller to deposit the remaining 90$.😂
I remember I was with my grandad at a fish and chip place it had a takeaway and a sit down restraunt so my grandad said can we have a jumbo fish and they said “that’s only for the sit down restraunt” so my grandad said “why if you can’t fit it in the box just cut it in half an put it in two boxes I’ll pay the extra box” they still said “we can’t” so he said okay we’ll sit down then and once it arrived he said “can I take these home in a box I’m not hungry now” so they gave him two boxes to take it home in 😂 I don’t understand why they do it
They do it cos they can charge more for sit down. They still ripped your grandad off in the long run as they got him to pay for sit down.. it's all a scam..
@@GG-xm2cm ? What do you mean? I have never spent extra money after being charged for sitting down at the table of a place that does takeaway. However, sit downs are more beneficial for places because it could lead them to purchase more things like drinks when they are on site.
@David Clinging he's saying in essence - "don't worry waitress, i won't eat the child's portion that i've just ordered 2 of, because i'm physically incapable of eating it, or why else would i be unable to purchase a portion for myself". it really is sarcasm, i haven't done an amazing job of explaining it (as it's essentially impossible to describe how something is sarcastic to someone that doesn't understand), but everybody else who liked his comment seems to understand. it's not gibberish, you just fail to 'get' this specific joke
You haven't been to many cafés then. There really are people out there who behave like her. They ruin customer experiences. Thankfully, because of the internet, these type of people are learning that treating customers like dirt can have an effect on your bottom line. Hopefully they will treat people nicely in the future
@cm. CG try running a business mate Like it or not, treating people like dirt won't make them come back It's not entitlement as much as it is "there's someone down the street who is much nicer"
I order the kids 'fish and chips' at my local chippy all the time. The adult version is too much to eat. They always look at me like I'm some sort of cheapskate who doesn't want to pay full price.
I used to work in a chippy and people would order a kid’s portion all the time - they’re very large meals otherwise! I can’t imagine thinking ill of a customer who just wanted a portion they knew they could manage. Don’t let them get you down, enjoy eating your chips and not feeling sick from overeating afterwards 😂
I also once tried to order a child portion because I'm 4'11 and they refused to do it. Smaller people need different portion sizes, we cannot eat the same as a 6'2 person. I then left and went to another restaurant and had no problems there
Oh my fucking god this was actually enforced?? 7 months later, I rediscover this clip, found my old comment and now the realisation that this ACTUALLY happened???
@@Narmerlover you guys are only thinking from the perspective of the customer. Sure it's annoying. But you have to realize the restaurant doesn't make any money on kids menus. They are cheaper not because the just have less food on them. They are cheaper to encourage families to also go to restaurants. If you let adults order unprofitable portions, you have to make them more expensive and in the end it's families that lose. Hilarious scene regardless.
@@maximilianmoreiras5622 Well that's a stupid fucking argument then. If the kid portion is 5 dollars, you still have 5 dollars more than you had before. You have to choose between 5 dollars and 0. An Adult is perfectly capable of understanding that a kid's portion is less food, but that's what he wants to eat, and you cannot enforce that on him, as he can easily go somewhere else and leave a shit review for your restaurant.
Ricky even laugh and ruin the scenes that he not even in it 😀 funny thing is he probably wrote all the jokes himself and still laugh as he heard it for the first time
Jay Parmo not really as bending rules at certain points make you look good and hence they will return another time more hungry and buy a more expensive meal since the service is great. 👀
@@danielhewson4132 The other thing was when you work in a restaurant customers generally treat you like shit so you're always on defense mode 🤣 I can't tell you how many times a customer would finish their meal then as I was clearing their (empty) plate they'd say "That was DISGUSTING, give me a free meal or I'll post bad reviews" and you'd be like "But you finished it.." then they'd say "Are you calling me a liar?" then the manager just has to give them what they want. So when you get treated like that all day you want to be inflexible with rules just to piss off the general public 🤣
This reminds me of going to a chippy with my Grandfather as a kid. He didn’t really eat chips so just ordered two fish and the waitress kept arguing that it was a set price and came with chips. After some back and forth he was like ‘fine charge me for the chips but don’t put them on my plate’. He was really against wasting food.
people hate you and its not fun at the end. it only works if u have money and statue. that way people worship you in the first place and you just filter them by being like Tony
@@mariadaly8654 Its not weird. If you cave on your principals what sort of message does that send your child? To sit and take unfair and unacceptable treatment?
Her acting is spot-on. Just as he's devouring the food her expression is full of disgust but also full of burning desire to break away from the miserable corporate life she's in & admiration & even desire for him.
This happened to me before getting fast food on a night out after the pub, but the guy behind the counter was understanding when I told him I had hardly any money left for an adult meal. He served me without an issue. Great guy.
I had something similar happen to me recently. A lot of restaurants nowadays ask you if you’ve got any allergies when you sit down and I told the waitress I had a peanut allergy (not a nut allergy, just peanuts). At the end of the meal there was a chocolate mousse that I fancied for dessert and it came with amaretti biscuits which are made from almonds which I _don’t_ have an allergy to, but I’m just not particularly keen on. So I asked the waitress if they could just leave them off but she said no they couldn’t do that. I asked if it was because the biscuits were all broken up and mixed in with the mousse but she said no, they just couldn’t do it. So I said, fine I’ll just have it as it comes because I can always just not eat them but again she said they couldn’t do that. I tried to explain that I didn’t have an almond allergy, that it was specifically peanuts, but she wouldn’t budge... It wasn’t until later I remembered this scene and I really wish I’d just had the person I was having a meal with order the Chocolate Mousse for me.
I work in a Cafe and I'm appalled by the waitress' behaviour (I know it's just a show, but this happens in real life) being so rude to a customer because they wanted a child's portion instead of an adult portion and saying that they couldn't order it but didn't give a legitimate reason (like, if they only had enough ingredients to make one, and if that's the case, you offer/recommend something else to them) God I felt like screaming "they're the customer! If they want to order a kids' portion sized meal for an adult then let them! They are the one paying for the meal; if you argue with them they'll leave and you will lose business for the cafe!" I know that people working in customer service still behave like this towards customers but it's appalling and managers should not let them get away with it. I'm glad Ricky didn't let it slide; good on ya, mate!
This is one of my favorites sketches because his logic is indisputable...and I laugh so fucking hard when he grabs those fish finers and stuff them in his mouth...every time....just brilliant!!
I am an adult, but I do still enjoy fish fingers and other stereotypical "children's food" from time to time. Personally, I don't understand why certain cafés/restaurants are fussy about adults eating from the children's menu...... 😂
Every time someone orders from the children's menu the restaurant actually loses money, because most restaurants price at a loss for that menu to encourage parents to come. So most restaurants will have an age limit to stop everyone just ordering from the kid's menu, otherwise they'd lose money.
@@ohnobees8033 Whilst I get it, I think stopping someone from ordering food or creating a situation makes the client less likely to come again. You can still sell at a loss and gain overall, like the costco hotdog situation. If it became that much of an issue they could also make a smaller portion as a whole for its actual cost.
@@AshTheBacon Yeah, this. Also I just think it’s shitty to guilt people into not eating what they want. As long as you aren’t poisoning yourself and not hurting anyone, who gives one?
I remember being at IKEA and wanting the children menu because I didn't feel that hungry, dude behind the counter instantly singled me out as 'The Adult Who Wants The Child Menu'. I feel as an older adult in the pandemic era, I should taken it and chucked it it all at his face.
I was thinking maybe he'd ask for a doggy bag. "Oh you know what I don't think he can eat it all, can we get a doggy bag", and then proceed to eat it as they're walking out the place or as they're paying in front of them. Didn't expect this full spite scene 😂
@@darthkek1953 if theyre charging 5 quid for a kids fish finger meal id be surprised he didnt get charged for ketchup. i live in london that has happened to me
i love this scene. there's a pub near me that specializes in pies, but won't let anyone share them as they "are good value for money" they are too big for a little kid to eat a whole one...i'd love to have the balls to do something like this the next time i was in there
This reminds me of a petty situation I had a couple months ago in an M&S. I ordered my father three bean chilli on a baked potato. When they brought our food, they said that they didn’t have any baked potatoes, so just plopped some chilli on a plate (nothing else as replacement). When I asked if someone had considered going down to the food hall to get some baked potatoes (a common practice in M&S cafes if they ever run out of stock of something last minute), was told in response they didn’t know if they sold baked potatoes in M&S (they use M&S produce exclusively to promote the food hall) so didn’t bother checking. Then when I said, ‘Well ok, why not grab us some chips so he can have something with his chilli.’ The waitress came out sometime later with a portion of chips and then proceeded to stand behind us whilst we ate, when I asked if there was something she needed she stipulated she needed me to go and pay for the chips. In confusion I asked why do you need me to pay for the chips she stated that because I had ordered an extra portion of chips in addition to my order I had to pay…I pointed out the obvious…yes this is because you had no baked potatoes, and didn’t charge me less for the fact. Even when I suggested charge me for the chips and then refund me for the baked potato they couldn’t seem to get it in their brain. At that point I just asked them to refund me for the food and walked out!
It's the way that he drags the fish fingers through the beans that makes this scene, its so subtle that you barely notice it, he could have just picked them up, it's that slight difference that's makes Gervais one of the best.
After watching enough Ricky Gervais I always think I am ready for anything he can come up with - but when he grabbed the handful of fish fingers and dragged them across the beans I had to scream out loud.
It’s not far off the truth in some places, I went to a famous fried chicken place years back, I ordered chicken that you could dip in sauces, the young lady asked me which sauce I would like and read out the 3 choices, sweet and sour, tomato or bbq. I said BBQ she said sorry sir we are out of stock, oh I said can I have sweet and sour, sorry sir we are out of stock.... at this point I innocently laughed thinking it was a joke, she just starred at me with the same look the actress brilliant gave to RG in this video, oh I said tomato? She said yes sir...... lol 😂
Yes, they stick to a script like a robot. I had a similar experience but with a mobile phone company. My phone wasn't working properly, and it was a long story but to cut it short, Me: I've taken it to shop they told me I had to phone customer service Them: what is your number? Me: it's.....but im not recieving calls, I can only phone out.. Them: Have you reset phone Me: yes Them: reset your phone, I will call you back Me: I've reset 4 times, I still can't get calls Them: take the SIM out, wipe and reset Me: I've done that 4 times Them: I can see on screen that you have reset the phone so you can receive incoming calls. Me: no, I can only make outgoing, nothing changes when I reset phone Them: what happens when you reset phone? Me:🤦 This went on for nearly a week, they just don't know what to say if you take them off script.
My Mother is 82 and she can rarely eat a full adult size portion. When we go to the restarant near our house she always gets a kids meal. They are perfectly fine with it.
