My barely-3-year-old niece ran up to me one time and asked me to open a candy for her. It was a small, clear, hard candy hastily wrapped in clear plastic. No brand or writing on the plastic. I asked her where she got it and she pointed and said "That man over there gave it to me!". I obviously took it away from her. God though, it was creepy. Please watch your kids.

This was a great reminder to those parents. I bet it made their stomach sink. It's just that fast for someone to steal your child too. I'm so glad my mom was strict and didn't allow me to do everything everyone else's mom or dad did. I remember being at the park when a little girl was stolen and everyone was looking for her. She was never found. She was there by herself to begin with and she was only 13. I still think about her but only when I see things like this because I try to forget as much as possible because it will eat you alive. My life changed so much after that day and taught me a huge lesson I just hate it was due to loss of that precious little girl.

When I was young, me and my friend went to shovel drive ways (in winter) then this man offered us candy at the door, he was like, "we got a bunch of candy from Halloween last week! Would you like some?" Unfortunately, my other friend wasn't too bright so he took the candy I "followed along" then We both said thank you, I said, "let's head home" so my friend opened the candy wrapper and I said, "WAIT!" He asked me what was wrong, I said, "wait till we get to your house" when we got to his house, I took both our candy and trashed it. And Said, "never take candy from strangers" he realized that and he thanked me.

The problem with this video is it really draws people's attention away from the people we actually need to be worrying about. In reality, this archetype of the pedophile who lures children from the park with candy is probably the rarest kind of pedophile out there. The people we REALLY need to be looking at, are the people who spend prolonged amounts of time with our children - daycare staff, babysitters, clergy, boyscout/girlscout masters, sports coaches, etc. It has always amazed me when people are so surprised that the boyscout master or the basketball coach is a pedophile, but when one puts two and two together, it makes a lot more sense. A predator in a park has very little time to groom a child for sexual interactions, very little privacy to do so, and takes a very big risk in snatching a child from a park. The pedophile at the park also has no idea what he/she is getting in such a context. What if the kids look different than they thought once they get their clothes off in the basement after they've kidnapped them? A basketball coach or a babysitter on the other hand, has numerous opportunities to see the child in various states of undress with legitimate reason to do so in the locker room or the showers or during bath time. These are also positions where the pedophile has established authority over the child, whereas the pedophile at the park does not. Authority combined with trust is a powerful cocktail when dealing with children. Furthermore, what's most misleading about this, is it perpetuates a false stereotype about the people who actually have sex with children. Most of these people are not sadistic predators, just seriously disturbed people who think that this behavior is acceptable, often times because they themselves were objectified sexually by adults during their childhoods and so they don't see it as wrong. So is it an interesting social experiment? Yes. But are people who hand out candy to kids in the park people that we need to worry about most of the time? No. The people who need to be scrutinized are the people we let our kids spend prolonged amounts of time with... alone, especially if those people are being modeled as trusted authority figures.

However, your argument is based on statistics... think of it this way: 99% of all shark attacks are in less than 2 feet of water... NOT because THAT is the area to avoid, but because THAT is where 99.99999999% of people in water ARE! Similar to statistic with kids. YES, daycare, friends, etc are where "most" issues are but because that is where kids are in contact with adults 99.999999999% of the time.
I don't think it is a problem with the video. There isn't always one scenario, also the predators may not hurt the kids at the park but lure them to kidnap them, you really never know and can never be too careful.

If a stranger gave me candy, I would politely say, "I'm sorry. I have severe food allergies. Thank you though." Or I would take it and say, "Thank you sir/ma'am." I would then proceed to throw it as far as I possibly could in the opposite direction and pretend to have an asthma attack.

Not a very good analogy. Kids are usually taught that on Halloween you ask your parents/check the candy before eating it. In this video someone is going up to them and asking if they want candy, on any other day, which we know if he were actually malicious would result in the kids following him to a van or away from their parents. On Halloween most kids are supervised and it doesn't really involve following anyone anywhere. Different scenarios, different events, apples to oranges.

We come back after *5 minutes* to find them both eating *Popsicles* . We asked where you got it and my sister told me a man came towards them with a box full of Popsicles and asked if they wanted some and they said "yes". As they explained what happened all I could think of was *shit I wanted some too*
Once when I was somewhere around three a guy looked over our fence while I was with my younger brother and asked something, I don’t remember what. I tried to have us follow him out. I believe we were uncertain but about to. But just then our parents came out and called the cops. Long story short, we ended up going to quart, me needing to speak. And I remember I got a cookie towards the end. And the mans family kept trying to sue us and we had to move out. (Sorry I don’t remember much and it’s very patchy this was when I was 3.)

When I was that age I wouldn’t even talk to a stranger because I was scared shitless of them kidnapping me. When I was around 5/6 this girl in the town next over had gotten kidnapped and it was a HUGE thing. I remember my mother using this as an example of what would happen to me if I talked to strangers. Basically the guy said he had a puppy that was lost and this girl, Samantha runnion, said she would help and he Fucking just snatched her in front of her apt complex then raped and killed her. They played the funeral on tv and I remember airplanes spelling out her name for the longest time. It’s sad but experiences like this made me aware even as a kid. Btw the guy who did this is currently is on death row.
Once this happened to me, not from candy but from where i live. I was going out with a group of friends until we met a lady. We talked to her a bit and then she asked where we lived. This happened in a park and it was just in front of my house. I turned back to my house but not to be suspicious into thinking that was my house. I just said uhh its none of your buisness. 10 minutes later i wanted to go home because it was getting dark and there was a van in a parking lot. The lady was walking towards it. I stayed with my friends somewhere hiding. The lady got on the van and drove off. I watched the van drive off until i couldnt see the backlights anymore. After that i immediately ran home so fast. I kept looking back where the van drove last time. Finally i reached my house.

Talking to strangers,AND giving away your personal details to a stranger are EXCELLENT stuff that should be being taught to kids who are in primary school,or just as they are about to start primary school!! The consequences of what could occur if you DID do it is mainly what you should be focusing on,so that it's easier for them to understand,and you should alsi be asking them questions,so that you know that they've been listening. You could also use helpful videos,such as this one to help you out within doing all that.

Kids are innocent, they know so little about the world, so even though they're told not to talk to strangers and stuff they'll do it, because they still don't know how dangerous the world can be. It's not really THAT surprising... But still an important message.

In Halloween unless there are guardians next to them, they are wandering alone, knocking from door to door, asking candy from strangers. Horrible things can to them. Did you know once in Halloween, there was someone that putted “candy” in his bowl and waited for kids to do trick or treating. Later, this boy collected his “candy” and it was actually pills. Thankfully, his family noticed it quick and the boy was saved.

Most parents teach their children not to take candy from strangers, but this video is a prime example on why parents should teach the children what a stranger is. Another thing that is good to teach children is passwords. If a person approaches the child, and offers candy, the child then asks, "What's the candy password?" , The stranger might say sweet, and say the password is blue. The stranger is wrong, and the child should be taught to run. Also another password, or even the same password for getting in a car. Remind the child not to tell anyone what the password is, and not to let the stranger have more than one chance. This is a great technique, and it works. Please work with your children more, and save lives.
He's literally teaching parents to be scared of the boogeyman instead of teaching real facts on child abductions or child abuse. If he really cared about children he'd be knocking on the doors of divorced mothers and asking them how often they let their boyfriends babysit their kids, or going to teachers' unions and asking them how many tenured teachers they've protected from informal reports of abuse.

Also diabetes. Considering that strangers never actually kidnap elementary school kids (seriously, go look up the statistics instead of believing stupid myths), I would say the risks from candy far outweigh the risks of strangers. I mean, there's not just cavities and diabetes, but food allergies and choking hazards as well. Way more kids end up in hospitals or morgues after choking on something edible than they do from predatory strangers. Here's an idea, instead of worrying about the boogeyman, start looking more closely at your family members, your kids' teachers and coaches, and your close family friends. They are all way more likely to be abusing your kid than some stranger with a bit of candy. It's not rocket science. People that want to do bad things work hard to get in positions of trust where they can do those bad things without anyone knowing. They make career choices based on wanting access to children. They date and marry single parents. They try to appear normal and respectable. They're sociopaths with a singular focus. They're not going to risk a bunch of witnesses when they can spend a bit of time charming their way into getting private, ongoing access to kids.

I honestly think parents don't teach there kids right. They just tell them to not do all these things but the child doesn't know why. They need to learn what a strange is capable of doing.
