The bamboo vibe you're feeling would go really well with the green you chose for the bedding. There actually are blackout bamboo roll down shades already! Amazon sells them if thats an easy option for you. You can do blinds or roman shades. I think both options would look great and help incorporate your "new" nightstand/table. Decor: I'd go with wood frames that match the wood tones you already have and some plant pictures (try downloadable prints from etsy). Maybe a nice jute rug for the desk area so it separates the two. You can find fake plants at dollar general/family dollar if you're on a budget, but target and Ross also have great options for a bit more.

Bamboo black out curtains and Japanese wall decor would look great!

The curtains should be similar to the color of the walls. Someone else mentioned having a curtain AND a blackout liner that hides behind the curtain but gives you the blackout effect. Highly recommend this idea. Also, hang the curtains a bit above the window, get the length closer to the floor, and make sure the rod is a wider than the window frame, too. Good luck on the rest of the transformation 😄

Awesome video. Do linen grey or beige drapes from ceiling to floor using wide panel or panels! Use brass rod and hang a brass ceiling light with edison bulbs. Add a huge mirror black or brass. Add a dresser not night stand on either side with glass lamp on either side.

Looks great - bamboo and faux hanging plants will look good.

Great job! I wouldn’t have had the patience to tape. About the curtains, if you have the funds, keep the rods above the windows like you do but drop the drapes down to the floor. Regardless of color, it’s a huge impact and will feel cozy as a result. Love your embrace of the fake wood nightstand. Far better than covered. Yay! 🎉

After years and years of taping only to have it peel my paint (even with frog tape), I learned hot to cut in like the professionals do so now I don’t have to spend all that extra time taping. I always cut in first (the entire room) and then roll. Love the video! You did a great job!

After years of painting and doing two of my houses, I don’t tape anymore. The key is to having a good edging brush. I do sections at a time - do the top and bottom and then roll the inside. It blends the two together since once is done side/side and top/bottom. I would do navy curtains with a lighter tan on the inside. We have always had blackout curtains because of the harsh sun.

When you have a blank room and have no idea where to start you can go to Pinterest and develop a mood board. Your room doesn’t have to be Pinterest perfect but you can get ideas of what your style is. You can also go to Architectural Digest or other decorating magazines and flip through them for looks that you like.

we got paper blackout shades (home depot) that just stick up in the window (instead of the blinds) and they do great with whatever aesthetic curtains I want to put over it.

I never have been able to cope with flat sheets. Anytime I've tried to sleep with them, I always end up kicking it somewhere I can't find it, lol. I just use the fitted sheet then fleece blankets.

My daughter and son in law bought a very large house in Surprise. It was painted in strong colors like yours. She had to do two coats of prime to get the color covered before her top coat of paint. The sheet rock was so dry living in the desert with dry air. She got so tired running to the store for primer that she tried painting the last bedroom with just paint and it cost her so much more. She had to do 4 coats. Primer is really worth the effort in cost and time. Nice job!

We definitely have always used a flat sheet and a blanket then the duvet. A flat sheet is a lot easier to wash and oftener than a duvet cover.

number 1 if you feel good about it, that is all that matters. Pick one or two colors that you like that coordinate with each other, using a color wheel can help, they should either be near each other on the wheel or across from each other, then use them in your decor,, curtains, art, throw pillows, plants, etc, You have a pretty neutral wall color and the olive bedding is fairly neutral too so I would go with a contrasting color for accent and skip the black since it is also neutral. Red is opposite green on the color wheel so terra cotta accents might be nice. Blue and Yellow are adjacent. I don't know if that helps, but good luck!!

I’ve always liked bookcase headboards. Try to get similar matching nightstands. There are so many types of blackout curtains that you could get ones that are of your favorite colors. Add this color throughout the room for cohesion.

Get the Bambi blinds and frame the windows with dark green blackout curtains

You did a great job on the painting! My suggestion is to go with neutral beige, white and the green you chose. Then an accent color with pillows and in your wall prints. Maybe a nice mirror. Also, a big no to the black curtains.

My Dad is a professional painter - he never uses tape. He says you can always tell (in a bad way) when tape is used. He uses a steady hand and the right kind of brush (he always does a *perfect* job).

Bamboo shades with 2 sided black out curtains. There are black out curtains with black on one side a different color on the other. I have them.

I use something called BlackoutEZ on some of my windows. It’s attached with Velcro, and in the summer I put it up every evening and take it down every morning and the Velcro is still good after 2 years. Then you can put up whatever curtains or shades you prefer. I like the idea of more wood tones and some plants. That would look great with the mossy green duvet. Oh, and thank you for doing ALL the prep work before painting, including removing the outlet/switch covers. I always yell at my screen when someone doesn’t do that!

you can buy blackout curtains that are white which just attach to other curtains so you're not limited in style just because you need blackout curtains.

You could always double up the curtains/window coverings. Blackout pull down shades that are set in side window with either bamboo or something light and airy on the front. Or wooden Venetian blinds set it with an earth tone curtain on the outside. It will also help the windows look bigger if you hang the curtain rods higher and wider than the window. It already looks great and I love the color of your bedding 😊.

I do not tape. I do cut in before rolling. I have always rebelled a top sheet. Personally, I would look for blackout curtains in a similar shade to the comforter.

If you use the green comforter I’d put up a light tan color curtain

With white walls and a green bedding, I would pick two other colors that compliment the green for wall art. Get solid drapes in one of those two colors. Add greenery and neutral lamps. My suggestion is to google organic modern or another style you or your dad like.

Why not add a blackout blind on inside of window frames that can be pulled up when not sleeping . Also blackout curtains can be any colour they just have a different backing on them. xXx

You should look up "boho chic". It sounds like that is what you're looking for. I would go with linen blackout curtains

Yes, lose those black curtains! I think curtains with some of the green and maybe black bamboo leaves on a cream or linen background would look so good. You could do the blackout roller shades under them. Then find some light wood furniture or some bamboo side tables or night stands. A sisal rug would be a very nice accent

No black curtains! Use a wooden rod with a pop of color black out curtains. Keep the space neutral! Black and white photos of Parker. Simple

I do prefer to trim first then roll. But I don't tape. It's for the same reason you do tape. It's the way I was taught. My Dad was excellent at painting and swore it was a waste of time. He said if you work slower and pay attention you don't need it. I have accepted that challenge through the years. But I've also never been as neat as he was 🤷‍♀️💜

Definitely not the black curtains. You are on the right track with the bamboo. They make them in black out.

Amazon has really good quality blackout curtains in a variety of colors. I had to have blackout curtains since I get off work at all kinds of weird hours.

Mount curtain rods a couple of inches from the ceiling. Use tabbed curtains vs rod pocket or grommet for a more sophisticated look. Curtains should be just touching the ground, never pooled. Go with a two curtain system with the outside curtains being blackout. Black curtains are fine but keep in mind they can halt movement of a space if they’re too stark so maybe an earthy gray? Or another green!! You also need a headboard here.

Instead of blackout curtains, maybe switch the blinds out to be roller shades, which do a phenomenal job keeping light out. Then, you can pick curtains that are more tan/khaki/beige in color without being restricted to only the styles that are heavy and blackout. You can even use spray adhesive and attach fabric to the roller shades in whatever style you choose. I would also change the curtain rods if possible for a more modern look. Possibly even paint an arch or something behind the bed to look like a headboard. Just some of my thoughts! 😄

Go with the bamboo roller shades but no black curtains. When you're visiting you can always hang the black curtains over the roller shade to give you the darkness you need. Also, no fake plants. They look fake and they just collect dust.

Taping and edging is my least favorite part. I ALWAYS tape everything off and do all of the edging and awkward places first. Then rolling the big open areas goes so quickly and ….then…the second coat on everything…

on My Great Challenge the mother doing all the furniture building can do perfect edges with no tape... she is french so maybe that's it. my room is gothic academia. :) It's black, wood, sage green, skulls, and my lil gargoyle Peter.

Back in 2002 my daughter was 16. She was going through some depression. During her Spring break I suggested she paint her bedroom to match her new comforter which was the colors of the rainbow. She liked the idea. We went to store and picked out paint. She chose red, blue, yellow, green and orange. She chose the design to match her comforter and sponge painted all her walls. It took her all week. It turned out to be very calming for her and we both loved how it turned out.

The few times I’ve helped family paint inside MY house, we taped and my job was ‘cutting in’. The roller and I never got along! Lol. Yes, we all use flat sheet. Cannot imagine not using one. Love your videos here in MS!

I would have done a beige linen curtain. It keeps the natural element of the wood and the green cover. I would add small light wood floating shelves or wood framed art keep with natural element so leaves or a forest. Maybe light colored basket for some towels or extra cushions.

A bigger side table and plenty of pictures . The room needs color your a young woman chose nice colors to make your room happy. When you walk in the room it should make you smile. 😁😁😁

Those mismatched curtains bother me. Also, gave the curtain rod as close to the ceiling as possible and down to (almost) the floor. It will elevate the room.

Skip the black curtains, they do nothing for the room. Take your time, and in the end you will know what pleases your eye is right.

i edge first, but I don't tape anything. just go slowly and you don't need it. also, i found tray liners! life saver! i won't paint without one and when my husband did, I threw the cheap tray away and bought another one and a ton of liners!

I think the tape or no tape depends on your skill at painting straight lines. If someone's really good at that, the tape gets in the way and makes unnecessary mess. If not, you it's badly needed!

You are doing an excellent job painting. The technique of taping and doing the edges first is the only way to do the job well.

My husband was a professional high end painter. You ALWAYS paint trim first. ALWAYS. It makes a much cleaner roll finish.

I would do some green with black maybe stripes or plants leaves in curtains, artwise id do your own art and do a nice painting with a garden scene. And a discount distribution warehouse may have some or goodwill. Some pretty throw pillows would be nice. But the bed should be centered in the room with a faux window on your right my left. It would look more aligned (if thats the right word.) I love it so far and bamboo under the curtains so you could see whenever you opened them would look nice and a nice rounded off picture in the center under the glass smaller than the table on top of the table would look nice too. Maybe some small fake plants on the shelf with books or knick knacks of your choice would look cute. You're an artist you can do this. Go to town with it. Speaking of..... go to a favorite scenic place and get insporation and trust your insticts... symmetrical was the word I was looking for btw the room needs symmetry. Can't wait to see what you do. Black is a bit too stark a contrast. Amazon has bamboo look curtain and you could do black out liners.

I follow your steps 100% when painting. Tape everything then edges cut in then roll. Maybe green or tan blackout curtains. Soothing art on the walls and a few fake plants. Try hobby lobby and tj max and at home for plants and accessories.

With a solid white room. You need some type of print and/ or color in your assecories. I would have choose a print for the bedding. Black and white big print bedding and colored assecories. Red? Gray? Since you have the green bedding, go with a geometric or big print green and white curtains an a pop of a third color in assecories/ art.

I'm definitely a flat sheet user. Living in Vegas, it's too hot to sleep with a blanket during the summer and I only use my flat sheet to cover up.

Look into cellular blinds. We have them and they black out pretty good. Then put any color of black out curtains over top.

Paint with the primer built in are a beautiful thing! Saves you a whole step in the painting process.

I think it's very important to tape off first, then do trim and then use the roller. Likely, because it takes so much time, some people go for the roller first. Or, maybe some people need to see the majority done first to stay motivated.

I tape, but I have seen some very talented people who can do the trimming freehanded. I once had a professional painter tell me to trim and roll a little at a time so the two blend better.

You need curtains with the green color in it, from the comforter. Then whatever other color the curtain has, add that in an accent pillow or two on the bed.
