Ralph Stanley has performed some of the most beautiful and spiritual bluegrass gospel music that I've ever listened to! His voice just takes you into another realm...
I am convinced, that when we stand before God one day, that we will be singing at the top of our lungs. Dr Ralph Stanley had the courage to set his voice free long before he left this world. I sure admire this fine man.
there is a kind of American church tradition that is very very rooted in the mountains and the streams......OLD no dogma just faith and natural.......rest in peach Ralph Stanley in the Gloryland.
I know the great Dr. has passed but I still receive treatment from him, you see his music is a great antidote for the trash they call country music today .God Bless you Dr. Ralph

Teluride Bluegrass Festival--199? There was a double CD live of the concert (same version) I used to have and love. This song was cd1/track1.,.. Maybe followed by Emmy Lou..? Bela Fleck was also on the same album/concert and played the sweetest version of Sunset Road ever! Thanks for the memories.

Sounds like Danny Marshall doin back up vocals along with jack Cooke spin high baritone and rickey lee sangin bass vocals so my guess would be probably around late 70s
Sammy Adkins used to play with Ralph and if you ever heard Sammy sing this, it would give you goose bumps! Sammy and Danny Davis sang this at Jerusalem Ridge last fall at the festival and all eyes and ears were on them!!!!! The round of applause and stand up crowd to show appreciation was unbelievable!!!! Of course you can tell, we love Sammy Adkins! Lookin' forward to Jerusalem Ridge again this year!!!!!!
I'm proud to say I named my last boy after Carter....I grew up on this music and still after 40 years I still listen to everyday...There is nothing better than Bluegrass music and The Stanleys singing it....... Thank you Ralph and Carter....
you cant believe what you dont believe. its hard not to believe what your preacher says is true. my preacher was my grandpa, a baptist fire and brimstone man of the cloth. I know what i believe, he would not approve. i think we all have to accept reality. believing something that aint true don't do no one no good. none of that matters when i listen to this. i love this music.
@witheyeswideopen10 always wanted to go to Jerusalem Ridge and go see that, i hope i can go before something happens to the old fart. I sure do love his voice hehe
i think it may be ernie thacker singing back up and the "oh lordy" part....he i my neighbor.....i live in sw va where all these guys live.....our children go to school together....sounds just like ernie...:)))
I have a copy of the same song from 1992 and the other voices are the same as the ones in this recording. This recording sounds like late 1980s/early 1990s. I'm very familiar with recordings of Ralph and this is the best I tell.
