Newer stuff has some dope songs too. Not My Funeral is like one of their best more recent songs. Hexed has some really good old-school Bodom feeling songs too. But yeah, their first like 5 albums are masterpieces. RIP to Alexi Laiho. Biggest influence ever to me growing, and one of the best guitarists of all time
More metal from Finland! Thank you very much, great reaction once again! Those guys truly are great musicians... Guitarist/singer/songwriter Alexi Laiho has been voted as a worlds best metal guitarist in Guitar World magazine 2009 and in Total Guitar magazine 2011.
Guitarist and songwriter sure, but to me as an OG listener the singing part was always the weakest point of Children of bodom, I dislike Alexi's singing(and screaming) in 90% of their songs :(
COB is surely one of the most enjoyable band to watch when they play! It's captivating to watch their fingers move almost inhuman speed! Amount of talent is insane!
I remember listening to them by accident in 2003. So in my local radio station, there was a segment called Midnight Metal and the radio dj plays a Europe’s cover (Final Countdown) but he gave credit to Children of Bodom (it was never them) but a Swedish metal band called Dispatched.
Such a great band! Remind me my adolescence, where me and my friends were completely shocked by their sounds and mix (like a death and power metal). I still have my "Hatebreed" album t-shirt (eventhough it doesnt fit me hahaha)
Still remember first time I met Alexi. Didn't know who he/COB was. They were an opening act. Arrived at venue early bc GA/pit tix, needed to piss, went behind small venue, Alexi said something along the lines of "nice piss," it was like Austin Powers long. Alexi was sitting at the back service entrance with his guitar unplugged just practicing scales. We talked for at least a half hour, carried a full convo, he never stopped practicing. Funny, humble. Entire time, I thought he was a roadie. Later, I'm front row pit, COB introduced, he comes out, I point at him with a "WTF?!" expression, he just smiles and tears the place down. This was EARLY 2000's.
My ex introduced me to them about 20 years ago. Funny thing is that I wasn't into metal back then. I listened to grunge and even soul music. All metal sounded the same to me back then. Bunch of noise and screaming. But Children of Bodom stood out to me because of their melodic aspect and the play between guitar and keyboard. That made it acceptable to me for my ex to krank up the volume. lol. If he only knew I now listen to it by myself on high volume. I listen to other genres too, but metal is no 1. My favorite of them is Mask of Sanity. Please, can you do a reaction vid to that one? Puppy please?
Follow The Reaper is soon gonna be tattooed on my forearm in honour of Alexi :) to remember him and also to remember that the reaper can come for us at any time, so we should live while we still can :)
Ah, yeahhh...like others this takes me back, in my case to the start of my college years. Playing along to CoB songs were the primary reason I kept a guitar tuned to D and/or Drop C.
Hey you can watch some song from a 2001 concert in Korea, Seul, they were very young back then and that concert is SO GOOD, they also played some of their best songs.
