Stephen Schwartz actually lived at my house in Riverside, CA in the early 90's while he was working on this show. We did a 3 week run of the show, as it was then & it was an experience of a lifetime to be there & watch & participate in this beautiful show being created. And I gotta say, it sure was a trip to go home at night & wake up in the morning w/ him at my house!! LOL Still have his number & keep in touch w/ him all these years later!!
That’s awesome! I’m in a production of it right now and opening night is SUPER soon which is crazy haha. I’m listening to this song because for some reason my brain is refusing to learn the lyrics. I’m playing as Shem by the way!!
@@colehamilton5917 it was summer f 1987 and the show was much different as we were the first run. At that time it told the story of Adam and Eve as the children of eden then the darkness of jealousy and hate with Cain and able. Then we did the Noah story which ended with all the cast behind the family with rainbow balloons we would let go. Did it once at YSP in Belleville and then for world youth day in Indianapolis. Music was the same and it was so cool to do a never before performed musical by Schwartz.
@@smackie13 That is so super cool. Thank you, THANK YOU, for this detailed response. It is my understanding from research that God was not depicted as a character onstage early on. I know that for you, this was decades ago, but if you remember... Did the ring of stones sequence exist in the Adam and Eve segment did, or did Cain kill Abel in the same way that he does in the Bible? Do you remember what the subplot was for the Noah's ark part of the show, if there was one? Thank you!!!
Honestly I was 16 (1987) and part of the old YSP youth chorale program run by the Shrine in Belleville so I don’t remember. I do remember that we were given so leeway in creating costumes especially for the animals in the Noah scene. A buddy of mine and I came up with the idea of being alligators. So they fitted us with alligator costumes on our backs and as the other animals paraded down the aisles to the stage and ark we laid on skateboards and pushed ourselves down the aisles and around stage. We called ourselves “skate gators”. Other than performing I have never had a chance to see the final Broadway production sadly.
