According to Jigoro Kano, Shaolin Monk Chen Yuan Bin brought Chin Na to Japan in the sixteen hundreds.. In Japan it became known as Jiu-Jitsu or Judo.

Very interesting video about chin na , and some of the training and conditioning exercises, look how similar some of the positions are to chi sau, and how they can be used in all southern Chinese systems, which seem to be missing from most of the western interpretations

Other styles may place more emphasis on striking, grappling, or kicking. However, most, if not all, chinese styles contain some Chi'n Na. Chin Na is not a martial art in itself, meaning that there is not martial art that ONLY practices it and nothing else. Hope that helps. BTW, if you are really interested in the history and the methods of Chin Na, Dr. Yang Jwing-Ming has a great book called "Shaolin Chin Na" and a DVD to go along with the book.

I think there should be the 5th in all kung fu styles.. Chi gong (internal training) and sometimes there is a 6th, dim mak (vital point striking)

Why isn't this used in MMA more? Kung Fu is one of the older styles and all I can see in MMA is San Shou (even that's second fiddle to Muay Thai). And no, it doesn't 'suck' if you get Japanese martial arts like Judo and Karate so there must be another reason there's a lack of Kung Fu

You knew that the Okinawan karate roots rely on the Chinese white crane boxing, you knew that right? But the karate developed it in a Japanese way. Also MMA is just brute force (even steroids, I've seen it in person.) and the mma people just take the tip of the iceberg of martial arts, they just don't understand the depth it has. They get Brazilian jujitsu, muay thai, and others, but they don't understand the deepness (I've practiced various martial arts like muay thai, taekwondo, hapkido, eskrima and now i'm learning wing chun). MMA is for cage fighting. A one on one fight, I don't say that it is not functional, i just say that they don't take the time to understand the philosophy of the martial arts or the deepness of them. Just look at Tito Ortiz, he always does the same thing , throw him to the ground and pound him, lack of technique! Now if i have a knife in the street w/o rules and I see a bigger MMA fighter than me with a knife , probably i could kill him before he kills me, muay thai has weapon training but they just didn't learn it. Martial arts develop, just like everything in this world. Martial arts were done with trial and error through history. It wasn't done in a day it took the knowledge of many people to perfect it. Even in these days, they are still developing. And you should learn more about kung fu because it has a lot to learn. I also thought that kung fu is not practical in fights but i started to learn wing chun and they blew my mind, they proved me wrong, boy they proved me wrong!!!!

The emphasis in MMA is on showiness, rather than ending the fight quickly and painlessly as possible.
@deputyindigoPrime
@deputyindigoPrime 9 лет назад
***** Probably, but the emphasis is on the "show", rather than ending the conflict. In a very real sense, MMA is a form of pornography: a fighter who's good enough to end a bout with a single, well-placed strike will NOT be invited to continue in the program. Likewise, the whole pre-match trash-talk is indicative of showmanship, rather than true artists coming into the octagon to learn from each other. I'm not saying that there is no place in MMA for Iron Fist or any other "under-represented" fighting art, but I am saying that unless the practitioners spend at least as much time on showmanship as they do in combat training, their MMA careers will be very short.

ronki23 Kungfu is an extremely advanced martial art. It is difficult to learn, but once someone becomes proficient at it, they are extremely powerful. That' why you don't see kungfu in mma competitions much, because it takes a loooonnnnggg time to learn and get even proficient at, let alone master.

All chinese martial arts consist of 4 aspects: Ti(leg techniques), Da(hand techniques), Shuai(throwing techniques), and Na(locking techniques;short for "Ch'in Na"). There are many different methods of Ch'in Na, depending on the martial art from which they come; for example Tiger Claw, White Crane, Eagle claw, Etc. Styles that emphasize grabbing, locking and tearing, like the ones that i just mentioned, naturally have developed Ch'in Na more than other styles.
