China’s $4 Cheap Buffet: $0.8 Fake Steaks, Dyed Salmon, Gutter Oil Hotpot and Zombie Meat 

I recently talked with an expat who lived in China. He told me about the "gutter grease". He got very ill, I mean extremely ill. He literally lost motor functions for months. He ended up in the hospital for 3 months. It took him 3 years to fully recover.

When I was young, I often went to China for the summer to stay with my grandparents. They explicitly forbade me from eating stuff bought at food stands and generally avoided going to restaurants or buying takeout with a few exceptions (businesses where my grandfather/grandmother knew the owner were fine). My grandfather was (and still is) an excellent cook however, and I did not question their decisions. After watching this video, I now understand the underlying reasons for their decisions.

I used to work for the Chinease restaurant in Kansas. The own told me to keep the left over rice and serve to the next customers. Also the vegetables were never washed before cook. Then charged the tax above a few lines. 😞

I once got severe food poisoning from eating at a Chinese buffet on Christmas Day. In Montreal’s Chinatown. I had diarrhea for one full week and lost 15 pounds

I’m Chinese and used to be proud of my culture because of its great contribution to civilization but am now disgusted with the government and its citizens all in the name if profit 😢

And yet they go out of the country and talk shit about the local food in social media while their food is fake 😂

If you eat anything in China as a tourist, you are brave. It is also a well known trend to serve tourist the oldest/worst meat from the kitchen, as tourist are more than likely to do nothing but not go back if they get sick. Also, many many restaurants, like the ones we saw on here, have pig or chicken farms right under the building. When people use bathroom or wash stuff down any drains above, it goes into a slop pit below where pigs/chickens live and eat. When they are big enough they are slaughtered and served in the restaurant.

Rotten fish ? Treated with bleach?? Wtf.

It's just as bad here in Australia, they think we don't know 😢

Not to mention they throw a lot of salt in the dishes so you’d have to drink water and get full really quick.

Regardless of the cost, seeing such vast quantities of seafood, there's little wonder our oceans are emptying of wildlife.

No problem, saliva and gutter oils will trick you into believing that Frankenstein steak,zombie meat,rotten poultry and parasited sea food are delicious meals.

Unfortunately the bad practices of food handling and preparation had been spreading across the world in Chinese restaurants for many years already.. I still remember the case of when someone shot a video of a Chinese restaurant in San Francisco, openly washing and rinsing raw meats right on the dirty public sidewalk surface in front of the restaurant, in the morning before they opened for business. It is hard to imagine how these people do not find anything wrong with what they were doing, but everyone suspected that they had been doing such things many years already and they were just caught that time by a guy with a canera. The City closed down the restsurants and demanded they stop such practices hefore they can open again for business. They were heavily fined and subjected to rigorous inspections by the City's public health department. That was just one restaurant. Everyone is pretty sure such bad practices are done in many othe Chinese restaurants in the city. They just haven't been caught on camera yet. We can just hope that owners of these Chinese restaurants wiil eventually develop a conscience and always watch out for the welfare of their paying customers.

And they ship that crap over here to use in Chinese Buffets, fact.

Eating something there must be terrifying. Since they have lack to no food safety laws or enforcement.

Even in the U.S. we're cautioned against eating processed foods! But this is a level of processing I'd never dreamed possible.

Were they not dishonest about it, their ability to stretch and substitute meat products with lesser-used meats would be remarkable. Truly, they are masters of using every part of an animal.

“Frozen Dead Sea food”? Yeah, that is how we eat nearly all sea food in the West. You won’t find aquariums with live fish and crabs in most Western restaurants.

I stopped eating at asian buffets. The last time I was at one was with family when I was 15. The guest at those restaurant are very entertaining for the way they act when the seafood gets put out. 😂.

when i was young in Australia (earliy 2000's) me and my family used to go to Pizza Hut and smash their buffets like once a month and they employed similar techniques where they would use additives that would make you full quicker so you didnt eat as much. Whilst still a bother, its nothing compared to whats going on in china

I make my own hotpot at home here in Canada as we have a badly regulated Chinese Supply that is always being recalled. If I buy from Asian Markets, I buy items produced in Canada, U.S. or Japan only.

Sadly, the vegetable oil found in most supermarkets in the USA or Canada are no diff from mechanic lubs… however regular ppl have no idea 🤷

Imagine living in a society where there are less to no human rights, the economy of your country is based on counterfeit products and you can't literally eat without risking food poisoning. All this while being basically one of the richest nations in the planet...

As a businessman tho.. I can’t help but wonder if a Chinese man were to open a food shop, and place a video feed on a tablet showing where the food is sourced from, another tablet showing cleaning procedures, and a semi open kitchen where customers can see what the cooks are doing by simple glance. I feel like it would pop tf off there. You will definitely have to lose money up front but utilizing social media and getting an 18- 34 demographic interested in this new wave of transparency in the kitchen for China.. Can’t help but think that’s the way to the moneysssss

If you eat in a buffet restaurants, you need to be vigilant and observant. The foods may or may not be in good quality. Sometimes they’re undercook. Some of them are old and the tastes are not good. There was a video I’d seen about a restaurant not washing the veggies. They serve them straight from the plastic bag.In another video, they cook the meat straight from the styrofoam without washing.Just be very careful of what you eat outside especially the street foods.

Duck is much more expensive than mutton in my country. Duck is 10 times the price of mutton. Not that we even eat dirty old mutton...we only eat lamb, never mutton.

And it is why we only use the best oils and fresh food and imported beef, but then there are the critics in prices and comparisons with those low quality joints, because the consumer also want the best paying the less and then they push those people without ethics to create those joints too. It is a circle, of course government should not allowed but the same as any other country there is offer and there is demand, and when the demand request certain conditions there is an incentive for those type of false offers to raise. Consumers not supporting high quality and good places that use good oils are part of the issue in this case.

I worked at many meat processing factories in the US and boy was I shocked! I wouldn't even want to eat anything there after.

Honestly . That’s why we stopped eating at Chinese buffets here too , if they’ll do it there they’ll do it here . Thankfully if you’re unfortunate enough to find yourself at a buffet these days you’ll notice that attendance is WAY down

Most of this is nasty, but what's wrong with frozen seafood provided it has been flash frozen at sea? That can often be of higher quality than the non-frozen stuff, especially if it has gone through a long supply chain.

it blows my mind that China officially allows the reclassification of river trout to salmon. If prepared carefully, salmon can be eaten raw. but raw trout (labeled as salmon) can give you parasites NP.

I hope NO ONE expect high quality from a buffet like this. Although I would expect to survive even from a cheap buffet.

I remember eating at a Chinese buffet and later that night 🌃 I felt like something was trying to ripp my stomach apart I went to the restroom so many times I don't remember the exact number of trips!!🤢🤢😨🙀 After I was done wiping the sweat 💦 from face I went to bed 🛏️😴. I haven't eaten at a Chinese buffet in years!!!!!

For some items, I don't mind using counterfeit. Food, is one thing I refuse to accept counterfeit. We should all boycott foods imported from China. You never know what you may be eating.

When I came back home my grandfather bought me a giant king crab leg. I was befuddled and didn't know what to with it. I ended up cracking it and binding it with mayonnaise, minced onion and seasoning and planned on eating half of it on a slice of toasted, buttered como bread. I was going to eat the other half for lunch the next day, but my grandfather looked at me so sad. I handed my sandwich over to him and made myself another sandwich with the leftover crab salad lol I miss my grandfather.
