I agree with you. Neither are ideal for everyone. But China definitely has a more appealing sales pitch. I saw figures on their "deal" offered to many African countries to help with infrastructure only to lead the countries into being unofficially owned by China after numbers aren't met. If I'm wrong, the program did a great job stating facts and sources to make me believe a lie.

China is a vital partner for Africa's infrastructure development. America creates wars and build military bases while China builds infrastructures. That's the fundamental difference between these two countries.
The documentary is good but why not also provide detailed statistics on the number of jobs created,impact on the economies of the various countries.That will provide a balanced view of analysing whether the developments are good or bad.
There is a lots of western bias & take in this documentary. BRI is beneficial to all involved, its not only beneficial for China only. BRI is opening up trade between all willing countries peacefully. The road, rail tracks and port builded in the contry are all controlled by its own country. The BRI is designed with GREEN in mind & itis a planet saver once the electricity are all green. BRI is not only for trade it is also building friendship & relationship, provide employments, joint innovation and R&D work, protecting planet & world natural heritage. These BRI projects & developments had lifted billion of poor people out of poverty in the rest of the world in the last couple of decades.
From Vietnam, it’s very clear Chinese manipulate and control the economy of smaller, poorer countries. Chinese are colonizing Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, etc… Chinese built dams and damaged Mekong river which is the main source of water for farming. Chinese built corrupt governments of those colonies. It's not as if the Chinese will be in charge indefinitely on the train operations. Didn't it say it will be handed over in 2024, so I don't see what's the problem? I bet under French occupation, their lives weren't much better, if not worse. I mean if the French and other colonisers have done great works in Africa and for its people, the continent would have been rich now after so many decades of western rule. The Western Powers could have developed the continent economically, couldn't it and China doesn't even have the chance to do so because it had become so developed. The way I see it is China doesn't point a gun at the Govt and force them to participate in this BRI thing. The local Govt could choose to say no and remain the same as where they are. Do remember the Western Powers didn't give Africa that option, they literally plundered the whole continent, whether the locals like it or not. But there are a few things China could have done is to understand the sentiments of locals better instead of assuming that what they do benefit the locals.
