He made me wheeze-laugh. Even if I did nothing for the rest of my life, if I had an unintentionally silly moment that was captured on camera and it made another person wheeze-laugh 100 years from now, I would consider it a victory. I started watching the video and thinking solemnly about my Chinese grandparents before promptly losing it at 1:44.
Computerized restoration? Brilliant!... Center the image to recover film sprocket damage, removal of specks and dirt anomalies, Increase frame rate to remove unnatural motion and just the right amount of colorization..!!! excellent!..
The original black and white film has no sound. Someone put soundtrack to the film but made a huge mistake of using standard Cantonese to a film of Beijing.
Thank you for sharing this treasure. This is really an eye-opener. Having lived in the Far East, I noticed that the voices in the video are from Cantonese people. I believe Beijing people spoke the same language they speak now, which is Mandarin. Also, the music in the background are Cantonese. Am I wrong?
The road recorded in the video, if I’m not mistaken, is the Imperial Way or Emperor’s Way At the high times of monarchy, only the nobles could walk there It became the main road afterwards, that’s why it’s wide
of course not, I'm from China, there was no Imperial Way or Emperor's Way in ancient China as the monarch family was living/locked within the Imperial Palace, the Forbbiden City for the entirety of their lifetime, they seldom got the chance to leave the Forbidden City and see commoners. Even if they left the Forbbiden City (which was rare) and toured the commoners' world, they would disguise as commoners in makeups and commoners' clothings due to the danger of assasinations or other risks. There was no such thing as Imperial Way or Emperor's Way in Peking(Beijing) at that time.
Spotting that imperial consort/concubine, or whatever she was, was like finding an Easter egg. If it was the Empress, or a lady of the emperor himself, that would be even cooler.
I don’t suppose who can share what the camera looked like? It must have seemed an odd gadget especially when a few of them came in close to stare. It’d be nice to see what they saw. Thanks.
how is that possible??? they're in Beijing they should be speaking Mandarin not Cantonese. Unless the author of this video just injected modern day audio to fill the video. I don't think they invented the microphone yet back then for this footage.
No we don't, we speak Mandarin only. The original black and white film has no sound. Someone put soundtrack to the film but made a huge mistake of using standard Cantonese to a film of Beijing.

At the very beguining uyou see PPl. walking on the beggars bridge. this is a grave offense and one which was punishable by beating or even death ! Bec the beggars bridge the biddle one was reserved for the emporeres procceshion. but by this point in time nobody obeyed the law and it was not enforced bec. of the disconnect and divide in the old society.
The original videos have no audio. The background audio is artificially added. I guess the person who made the video doesn't understand cantonese or mandarin so they didn't realize the error.
ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-5bQwGlMEeOE.html It's not 100% same, but I think a scene or 2 are the same? Like opening he also use the street scene, im not sure, maybe u guys use the same source of video. Sorry, I didn't mean to accuse you. It just I saw his video first before u, so i was schocked at first. Now im confused after comparing both videos. Sorry once again.
@@tanzil88 Thanx for the Link an no problem ;) It seems like the other Uploader worked on the same footage on the same time. He premiered his upload 1 Day after mine... Damn and he got way more Clicks...Shit happens. - Greetings.
@@regnittub740 as you can see my reaction, it's almost the same altho different length. The color, sound and ambience looks so similar. Maybe u guys use the same AI software too.
I don't know too much about it but I believe it's somehow done by duplicating existing frames then playing the footage at a faster rate. So for example if it was recorded on film that took 30 frames of footage a second they would create a copy of each frame so then there would be 60 frames but it would take twice as long to view the footage so they have to increase the rate that the footage is played back so you could fit 60 frames per second.
I am a foreigner that lived in Beijing. there is a nearby area called cow street. 牛街 cow street is a known Muslim area with a centuries old mosquel. we are present at that area my brethren. wa aleikum al salam
