Oh my gosh dude, that sponsorship is actually so cool! I played that game on mobile a while back but have since forgotten the name, so you being sponsored by them is incredibly useful.
the garrison order is ridiculous because when any enemies take tiles they're told to garrison they automatically abandon their garrisons to try and push out the enemy divisions. it's a stupid order.
Do a single tile fall back line for ports, and then the rest on garrison, this way the other ports are still guarded and the rest can go automatically try to push out the naval invasion
yeah, it's such a shame, same for a lot of stuff (like how unresponsive and segregated the spy stuff is) armoured cars specifically are painful since in game their only real use is as occupation divisions equipment while IRL they were a big part of divisions tho also part of that play is how HOI IV builds divisions, which is not congruent with the reality of WWII, even while playing by the "building blocks" rules
@@quentintin1actually, armored cars aren’t even good for garrisoning. Making the cheapest tanks possible, which are cheaper than armored cars by a good amount, provide more suppression than armored cars.
Compare Britain consripting only aged 18-25, versus China doing the same - China will literally have several times as many people with the same conscription laws, simply because they got shit tons of people! Mass mobilization is more like recuiting EVERYONE NOW LETS GO GET IN THE ARMY
@@Aldrahill The point is its not really the thing Soviets did either, they just also had a ton of people. The left side is "deep battle", a real soviet strategic doctrine, so the right side is made for countries like commie china, so they can actually put out divisions without expanding a lot
I´ve played bice two years ago, mainly with Germany until the end of 1941 and had quite a blast playing it. It takes quite a commitment and interest in WW2 and historical authenticity/immersion to enjoy it - also the reason why I enjoy these videos. In comparison the Vanilla version feels like a game for children who just want fun fast and simple
Glad you enjoy them! They take so much work xD it’s almost a full time job of researching, recording, narrating and editing, but the response has been so amazing!
@@Aldrahill I believe it and hope you’ll reach this goal, one cuz you deserve it and two cuz I want to see you sliding over black ice. If I remember correctly you get the historical division templates as Germany thru events depicting the recruitment waves but you still have to do all the other work, plus managing the game beyond historical presets.. 😀
The best method to keep the north safe is to not let Beijing fall, since it has an airport and preventing the Japanese from getting the supply depot in Shanxi, since the northern area is desert and mountain and terrible for supplies, so you can just keep minimum of troops there.
I love this series, but I feel like justice would only be done to a challenge like this with some type of immersion mod. No need to head to Black Ice immediately, but maybe something like the "8 years war of resistance" or total war could make this more fun, even for you which seems to be sorely needed judging by the amount of suffering you endured here. That, or it would make you suffer in a different way, but hey at least that would introduce a new variety to the whole ordeal.
@@AldrahillI've been playing total war mod for a while and its a good mod for creating weird division templates. I have no idea how the air works though.
Yo historical reference for the tanks is basically like naming the tanks the Chinese able to get hands on. Type 35 is basically Pz2 or T-26 and Type 36 is M3stuart. The Chinese did have a Sherman but most of them were returned to Usa during the civilwar and later brought back after KMT defeat
I imagine the reason only select units got AT and AA initially was because there simply wasn't enough to give every unit a useful number of either, so full AT and AA units go first to what I would assume was the most important divisions or needed them the most.
@@AldrahillEh, just extend the Maginot line, level 10 forts along all the nation borders (That's kinda overkill, level 5 is really all you need, but it's the principal of the matter) Also, air defence, anti air guns, radar, and you become invincible (There's the southern supply hub, but eh, a few issues like that, and Switzerland and Spain can be solved relatively easily)
@@glauberglousger956 kinda not in the spirit of the challenge though is it? The point of the series isn't to play meta, it's to play with historical limitations unless they make it literally impossible. Personally I'd rather see France go down fighting with a vaguely historical direction than watch yet another video of someone using the common strats to stop the Germans. Especially since there were very legitimate reasons the Maginot line wasn't extended (it would have caused serious tension with Belgium and also would have been extremely expensive and time consuming at a point where France was economically and politically unstable).
Keeping a small production of lower grade rifles is big brain as it gives you a reliable source to lend lease and fill in production gaps when switching main gun production
@@Aldrahill Not to mention (works best in MP but can in solo) creating cheaper variants of equipment like tanks and planes for License Leasing is BUSTED when you realize you don't need to ever use them just sell them. Being the lend-leaser is very fun as you get to associate yourself more with the designer and create those wacky and niche tanks i.e flamethrowers and SP Artillery to give your friends. (Actually very fun game to play MP as a nation with big industry)
I admire that you have a good microphone, because a lot of "smaller" channels on RU-vid don't, and it can be off putting, so thank you for a pleasurable watching experience
Thanks! I try to make them funny so they’re not just filler ads, plus the game was fun! Trying to be ethical and only do sponsorships for things I support and like!
I just about finished my Communist China run successfully until this video popped up! Hopefully we will see Qing and National China acheivement guides, lol
the reason divs on defense abandon ports is because they are moving to attack the landed units, defense orders make divs auto attack units in their zone even if that means leaving the things you told them to defend completely open use fallback lines instead, with a handful of divs around each port instead, you'll have far less stress this way, but it's a pain to setup and micro
the "picked" divisions getting specific equipment isn't out of order for the simple fact that when a new equipment is added to the army, countries generally don't have enough to equip the whole army at once, (for example, the french army never had enough AT guns to outfit all units that were supposed to get them, so a lot of reservist and mountain regiments were still rocking the venerable 37 TR 16 infantry gun in their "anti tank" companies) so you have to select which units get what equipment, tho of course it is generally done the way of creating a "new" ToE and equipping units as equipment comes online, but since china wasn't building much of that equipment at home, any numbers were limited
Bro you should play the eight years war of resistance mod. Its so much harder and more complicated. It's worth giving a try. Edit:Looks like someone mentioned it first. But still we both think you should play eyewor
For someone who only play HOI4 in an historically accurate manner, this video comforts me more than you can imagine, thanks for your time and effort!🥰🥰🥰
The area defence works only until something lands somewhere -- then all the divisions move to counter-attack, leaving ports open. So you pretty much have to micromanage port garrisons. Remember that Paradox loves you.
I know this might be the strangest compliment you've gotten on the internet, but I really like the sound of your voice. Like it's really calming compared to a lot of other hoi4 RU-vidrs
This gives me flashbacks to my disastrous 1st China game. I had all the same problems you had, from the Chinese United Front not forming properly to my divisions leaving my port to fight random naval invasions. Only my situation was way, way worst. My entire army nearly got encircled in Jinan and in my genius, I decided to blow the Yellow River dams. Which means I can't strat redeploy my divisions out of the pocket. That sealed the fate of my entire army.
Ah yes, I remember playing China for the first time and looking at the focus tree, thinking: "Oh, here I can form the Chinese united front. Surely this is how to follow the historical events that the AI always goes though, right?" This has got to be the one of the most poorly thought out parts of a focus tree in the entire game ever, right up there with fascist Britain's "Move to secure the Dominions" focus.
Deep Battle is meant to be the Soviet doctrine since that was the actual name of Soviet doctrine, it's just that the Soviet Union developed Deep Battle in the 30s.
The flood you mentioned was done to slow down the Japanese push through the Great Plains of central China. It definitely was devastating for the people there, the official number of dead caused by the flood directly and indirectly from the KMT was 380k, but some scholars said it can be upwards of 800k. But remember, this is war, it is meant to be brutal. People can only choose what they think is better at that time, and only time will tell if what they chose is correct. But anyways, if the flooding was not done, Japanese have some highly mobile motorized divisions that can quickly advance deep into central China, dealing great damage behind the Chinese lines, and can mean bad news for the "new" capital of Chongqing. If Chongqing fell, there would not be many more cities to fall back to. Which would have meant the capitulation of China. There were reasons to believe Japanese would do atrocities to citizens of China in retaliation once China capitulates. They have shown that in Nanjing, Shanghai and pretty much every city and town where Chinese actually put up good fights, killing off entire city worth of population, wiping towns off the map after beating the defenders. So I guess for the KMT back then, it's better to do the flooding. Also if China capitulates, with China and its resources, the pacific front would be a lot more complicated and hideous for the allies.
If you're having trouble with supply remember to motorize your supply hubs and your army distribution logistics. It does use a lot of trucks and lose a lot of trucks if you've got bad air cover sometimes it's not worth it but most of the time the truck losses are worth it.
Railways are only for connecting supply hubs and ports, which can also be connected by rivers. The railways don’t provide any supply at all on their own.
I think Chiang would have actually chosen to give concessions to Japan early on in order to finish off the Communists first, though not sure if this would've been done at the Marco Polo Bridge. But he was always in favor of dealing with the Communists first.
He had no choice. In December 1936 Zhang Xiue-Liang pulled a stunt and detained Chiang when he was inspecting Zhang's progress on exterminating the Red Bandits at Xi'an. After negotiation, Chiang agreed on a truce to civil war and focusing on preparing for Japanese invasion. Both Eight Years War of Resistance mod and Chinese National Focus mod have this event, and it's a very pivotal event in both the game and in history.
Alongside the Panzer 1's arned with nachineguns in a 1 man turret You should have designed a tank based off thr Vickers Armstrong Better known as the Vickers 6 ton 1 man turret, light howitzer It can also have an extra gun added to it in tbe form of the Heavy machine gun And The Soviets gave there own variant of it, The T-26, to the Chinese A 6-Ton with some minor improvements But most importantly A 2 man turret AND A GOOD ENOUGH GUN, the 45mm Anti tank gun
Do not use garrison order. Use fall back line. Make manually a one tile fall back line order for 2 or how many you need divisions per port. That's times more efficient than doing garrison.
This is why when I played China I just conquered all the warlords before the war started. The focus tree sucks because I was unable to repeal the unequal treaty since I was at war with basically everyone else. Why couldn't I then bypass it? Why would China keep respecting the treaty when we're at war with everyone? Paradox really needs to review most major's focus trees.
There are reasons why I normally use 3 tile fallback lines on harbours (and tiles next to them) instead of garrison orders, putting 3-4 divs on each... Cuts down on garrison AI doing stupid moves
To add to the confusion at 17:15, the Chinese armored force was a mess of different models in 1938. They had T-26s, BT-5s, CV-35 Tankettes, BA Armoured Cars, Leichter Panzerspahwagens, and it stayed that way until Pearl Harbor when they got 600 T16 CTMS Light Tanks from the US, and then some Stuarts and Shermans in 1943. Edit: Also, according to Tank Encyclopedia, the Chinese also used some Vickers Type E Light Tanks early in the war. They also had some Panzer Is in their arsenal, alongside: Renault FTs, V-C-L Light Amphibious Tanks, Renault ZBs and UEs, and some captured Japanese tanks. They never got T-34s until the 50s, when the Soviets supplied the PLA with T-34-85s Edit 2: You did end up mentioning a lot of the stuff I mentioned initially
I don't know much about Chinese-Japanese wars but I know what tanks were there, tested them in an accurately realistic game and let me tell you, Japanese tanks back then were way better, China had some good tanks but the I-Go, Ke-Ni and later Chi-Ha, etc tanks just mopped the floor with them. And their airforce was child's play against the Zeros and I'm not kidding
Ayyy then I did my job! And there’s no late, that’s the joy of RU-vid! You can watch them when you want! Paradoxically it helps the video more to watch and engage with it earlier, but my videos will always be here for you whenever you like :D
The defend/garrison orders are useless. I just use them to get divisions I don't want to micro but also don't need on the front lines out of the way. If I'm defending ports or the coastline I always use fallback orders. Still not perfect but better, since you can be more precise with them. Annoyingly any divisions you add to the army will just get tossed onto a random order but nothing paradox gave us actually does what we want for coastal defense so you gotta make do. I think the reason they're abandoning the ports, by the way, is because when an enemy invades they try to automatically retake the port since it's no longer being defended (on account of being captured) and it completely shuffles all the divisions around. Just terrible.
It's really funny that historical divisions changed based on the chinese struggles during the war, but you didn't really struggle to defend, especially in the later part of the war so the changes made no sense lol
Yeah that’s true xD had the same trouble with German divisions, as they kept reducing manpower overtime, but I wasn’t actually losing men that much so I just crippled myself xD wanted to stay historical though!
Hey Aldrahill I want to say thank you for the Videos you make, they are very entertaining and sometimes funny. But I also got you a little challenge for you, can you win WW2 as the Soviet Union by only using heavy bombers, artillery and heavy SP( in a 20 battalion division)? And sorry if my English is bad.
Holy shit, thank you so much ! Really glad you like them! I work really hard on them, so your kindness is massively appreciated! That’s a cool challenge, I’ll take a look and see what I think ;)
I will have to say WTT is one of the worst DLCs, especially for China. Not only are their political branches tiny, but some of the content is just weird. The democratic leader, Weng Wenhan, was indeed in charge of legislative bodies for a few months, but thats towards the end of the nationalist regime in mainland China. The CPC has a focus that renames itself to PRC and does nothing else(PRC gets as much cores as CHI), and well, manchukuo has the same 70 days focus just to rename itself. There are no well-made alt history for CHI branches except for a democratic reform, yet the allies wont let you in, and PRC has two which are not much interesting as well. Edit: oh I also remembered paradox gave Chinese vehicle presets the post-1990 tri-state designation, which was only used in the PRC - and this standard was not applied before the mid-80s.
