Hi Ciro, 55 year old Chinese guy, born in SA. (My parents, were also born here in the 1930s, it was my grandparents on both Mom and Dad’s side who came here from different parts of China). I’m a bit gobsmacked by how much Ciro knows about Chinese history in SA. Yes, as Chinese, we were ‘second class’ citizens, same as Indians and Coloureds, and like them we could not vote. Yet any Japanese born in SA were classified ‘first class’ citizens. Go figure. Then the Taiwanese (who are Chinese too) were lured to SA by the Nat govt, to establish factories and industry particularly in the "independent homelands". Once that happened, we locally-born Chinese were allowed to apply to the Minister of Education for permission to attend white schools or universities, but we were not allowed to vote until 1994. I am still in contact with one of my Taiwanese classmates who is back in Taiwan, and he travels between there and China on business all the time.
Thank you for sharing! My grandfather was Chinese, but he passed away a long time ago. There was a lot of mystery surrounding him and how he came to settle in the Coloured community. History is so fascinating.
很好, 我喜欢中国车。 Best idea ever to launch this series. Delivering first hand information instead of hear say. Can't wait for the next episode. Bring it on 🤞
What an incredibly informative show this is/was. Rob Yao is quite a fantastic guy. Thank you for bringing him over. Ciro, you are simply an outstanding human being! 🤩
Just very happy for my friend in childhood!!!! You did what you love! Still remember that essay you wrote about cars when we were in primary school which got full score!!! Proud of you Rob!! 🎉😊😊
Really loved the series, I like how he was open about racism and its effect and being an Auto electrician my self I really wanted to work in China in 2018 but being black racism is always something I'm more likely to experience it n social media does do china justice in its own racism against black people.
I’ve always loved Ciro’s reviews and found him to be quite genuine aside from being likeable and a great journalist but this interview really proved my suspicions that he’s an all round great guy, shout out to you Ciro for this great and well balanced interview… I’m always pleased to see white South African’s that are this genuine about racial dynamics
Never watched a car show and felt so honored. I love Chinese philosophy from watching Cyrus Jansen. Jan Weiwei. Thanks for bringing geopolitics in the car industries. Deep understanding of manufacturing is needed for us viewers too. Facts based on Statistics shall be appreciated too. ❤❤❤
Awesome episode, looking forward the next ones to come. Always love Ciro's view on almost all things, and to have Rob now is very refreshing. I am absolutely sold on Chinese products, especially cars. Have owned three now and always looking for the next one. Their (Chinese) outlook on technology and value they bring to the table with such brave enthusiasm is next level. Its about time that bloated traditional brands get a good run for their money.
Would really love to see that the traditional brands can also drop their prices from the Chinese OEM competition, which will benefit all the consumers like us
This was gold. Very interesting for those that have never traveled to China (like myself). Might have to make a trip after hearing these great things about China
This is a very good learning episode. I wish most of the companies and societies can learn and improve themselves out of this conversation. Thanks very much for your consideration, I learned lot from this.
Brilliant podcast. Watched to the end even with me being little ADHD. Keep up the good work. Rob is such a cool guy. Would love to have u guys at the East Rand Motor Show.
I have subscribed, bring on the next episode please guys!!! Our greedy and corrupt government can really learn a lot from the Chinese. Implimenting is where we horribly fail at.....and Don't forget about the lack of education created by our previous government.
Lovely interview. I really hope that some of the these cars manufacturers can have factories here is SA as well. even if its just assembly. I think that way consumer will have more trust in the product knowing they will get full support locally and also benefiting economically
Lovely that this guy is focusing on the Chinese market for his company and business. You won't struggle to grow if U befriend people people with the same kind of energy.
Very informative, lovely history. They understand geopolitics too. Well read too for the Chinese guy. True example that stereotypes do change for the better with time and consistency. We were used to view as sub par business people with poor linguistical clarity. Now their public image.
What an awesome and informative podcast! Really cool. Would love to go try out the hotpot restaurant 😋 Where exactly did you go? Sounds like worth visiting
I am Very Proud of the Chinese for where they have Reach in life today ,Great People and Selfless People, they try to make life easier for Everyone across the Globe 🌎🌍🌏 👍👍👍👍👍 29:33
Let me answer that, because we vain, we want sedans to make us look important haha, and we think sedan shape has more crumple zone in an accident so it’s safer, but younger generation definitely starting to create more demand for hot hatches
this kind of dialogue should be more, because south african has been influenced by western media for very long, so much sterotype of China, my friends always ask me about China, i first tell them what i experienced, and i always said go to China and experience it, don't just listen. i know it's too unbelievable when people just hear from one, life is so difference between two countries.
Can never wake up a person who’s pretending to be asleep, open minded people will always be interested to have both side of the story so they can make their own judgement, idiots and sheeps will just listen and believe what’s presented/fed
@@LungeloGigaba yes , the whole episode and will i will be watching the next parts aswell . Now back to the question , are their cars reliable . If yes im buying one .
Just wait till the shit hits the fan. Let's see how long these Chinese products last. Maybe not tomorrow. Maybe not next month. Our dear country certainly has made their bed.
Yeah I’m also waiting for when’s the Chinese space station to fall off the sky, google it, maybe it will change your view on Chinese quality, there’s different quality products for different target markets, and question for you, if a European machinery that can last 50 years and cost 100 million rand to buy, and Chinese machinery cost 20 million rand to buy but will last only 30 years, which one would you choose, Chinese quality may not be super durable but super durable stuff also doesn’t get updates, remember one of the first light bulb factory closed down because their light bulbs were too durable and they never break so they couldn’t sell more lightbulbs. Let that sink in….
Rob sounds like a Fourways boet Thank you for the open and frank conversation, I am still enjoying my Chery Tiggo 4 Pro, shes a bit thirsty.. but its's okay... @ROB - Gong Xi Fa Cai 恭喜发财
