China Economy: PwC China Fined and Suspended Over Evergrande Failures | Vantage with Palki Sharma
PwC's China auditing unit has been hit with a six-month suspension and a record 441 million yuan fine for its audit failures related to China Evergrande Group. Chinese regulators accused PwC of overlooking fraud in its audits of Evergrande's flagship unit, Hengda Real Estate, during 2019-2020. The suspension will impact PwC’s ability to sign off on key client documents and could result in a loss of market share in China. The penalties come amid growing scrutiny of Evergrande's financial practices. PwC’s senior partner Daniel Li has stepped down in response. Palki Sharma tells you more.

This is a pittance for PwC! Why the auditors are not prosecuted for criminal liabilities is beyond me! I vaguely remember that similar fraud happened at Satyam Computers! The auditors getting off with nominal fines/punishments is bad! The auditors should face the full brunt of law!

I am from India and i find it incredibly shocking and surprising how China and India are just so strikingly in contrasting. On one hand they have an abundance of unoccupied buildings (ghost cities is what some people calls it). In fact a few thousand of those cities already. On the other hand in India there is hardly any buildings and is filled with sIums everywhere with no toIiets. USA is in a similar position to lndia with their amounts of homelessness now

Looking at India's extremely poor performance in the 2024 Olympics, it is now crystal clear that India isn't growing or developing at all, and India's economy is not the 5th largest as they have boasted, but rather closer to their bottom-of-the-ladder Olympic ranking of 71.

Pls look into pwc’s actions in India as well… Like most lawyers, most auditors prioritise their own revenue over truth, fair disclosures, spirit of law, ethics and even national interest…while hiding themselves under ‘to the best of my/our information…’ crap. And it flies beyond audit..into other ‘professional services’. Look at pwc’s actions in Kerala. They were engaged by corrupt state Govt to fill well paying positions, in state Govt enterprises like Space park, with people who had no qualification at all. Of course they will try to escape future blame by subcontracting their engagement to flimsy enterprises. So no sympathies.

India is the fastest growing economy now China’s Global Times scoffed and scorned India for not being able to vaccinate its population during Covid. Fact, India vaccinated 90% of its population and exported to 99 countries much of it free for the poor countries. In other words is vaccines were efficacious.
