people will always find ways to learn from others. that's how mathematics spread, that's how gunpowder was invented in china and now used everywhere, that's how the invention of paper, printing press spread throughout the world. if you didn't have the luxury to be invited to learn about the new inventions, you will find ways to learn in other means. it's been going on throughout human civilizations and probably back when we were still caveman when one caveman figured out he could get to the bone marrow by smashing the bone with a piece of rock and another caveman looking on over his shoulder. acting as if the u.s. has no spies and doesn't steal intelligence or that its corporations don't scope out its competitions. lol stop being so naive.
All of that is irrelevant. The issue, at its core, is not one of morality. It's one of self-preservation. By your argument, we may also say the following. Wars have been going throughout human history. That's how empires spread, and through empires mankind made great progress. Therefore, if someone is trying to take over your land and dominate your people it's naive to think you should fight back. When someone is trying to invade your land you defend yourself. When someone is trying to steal your stuff, you defend yourself. Regardless of how much you invade other people or how much stuff you steal from other people. Morality has nothing to do with it. But, you're making an extreme false equivalence between U.S. having spies and some individuals at US corporations engaging in corporate espionage, for which they are hunted and prosecuted by the US government, and China's laws, policies, and court rulings that deliberately encourage the enterprise of the mass transfer of foreign IP to Chinese companies.
actually they gave you an option, you don't have to do business in china. to that, the u.s. companies weigh in on the pros and cons and money trumps all, so they give in to it. they don't necessarily need to do business there. nobody is forcing them to and they wouldn't have to hand over their technology. just like how google wanted to do business in china 8-9 years ago, and didn't, and now decided to follow the rules in order to have access to the chinese market so now they're making a censored google search engine.
Who said anything about not having an option? Besides, again, by your own argument, the US is now giving them an option. They don't have to do business with the US. China makes policies that restrict US free trade interests while preserving their own. The US is now enacting policies to try to level the asymmetrical situation. I don't understand why you are OK with an aggressive strong-arm tactic but somehow opposed to an aggressive tactic to counter it. It's inconsistent. I genuinely wonder what you would be saying if the US had similar policies towards foreign companies as China does. Oh, BMW, you want to sell cars in the US? About that German engineering... And, BTW, don't be fooled. The rest of the world is cheering for Trump here. They just are letting him take the whole risk, but they'll cheer behind closed doors if he is successful. You never really replied to my counters to your first set of statements, anyway.
there's no right or wrong here really. every country is simply looking out for what's best for them. also, your so called free trade aren't always fair. many african nation's agriculture were hurt by the treaties that were forced upon them by europe: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-dv3hSNhRaNU.html there's benefits to free trade obviously, but if you're not careful, it can also destroy you. if you don't protect yourself properly you can easily destroy your own industries by allowing cheaper/higher quality products from abroad to come in and decimate your own industries to the point where you are unable to compete and become dependent - africa's agriculture is a good example. look at the big tobacco industry, just how many people a year does it kill? compared that to hard drugs, it's even more of a problem, but there's money to be made, lots and lots of money -therefore, fuck off with your right or wrong. don't be naive in thinking the world is fair and everything is so black and white and that the united states aren't taking advantage of anyone with their position as the number 1 power in the world. Whoever has more leverage, influence, wealth, power will always have the upper hand. There is no good or bad guy, we're not the good guy, we're just doing what's considered good practice for us, and other nations are doing the same thing as well. We complain about europe not spending enough budget on defense, but then again, they're not the one with hundreds of bases all over the world and actively engaging in conflicts all throughout the world. As the #1 super power, we toss them a little benefits, and they in turn side with us in nearly every decision we make and turn a blind eye to us dealing weapons to saudi arabia and responsible for yemen's humanitarian crisis that's going on right now. The power structure has always worked this way, those on top is able to buy the loyalty of those beneath them, and use them for their own benefit, however, you have to at least throw out some scraps first. All i'm saying is, it's literally just every country doing what's best for them - there's no good or bad guy in this world.
To say China invented gunpowder is like saying Italians built the Colosseum. And under WTO rules, restricting foreign companies access into a market is not an option, it is a violation. When it comes to stealing, please name ONE tech the US stole from China.
Google must ban users from outside united states. I mean your country dont even have youtube, but you can still watch these videos and worst leave comment. This is bullshit policy by Google.
高礼福, Totally. ! You can tell they'e trumptards who only wants to hear narrattives that fit into their worldview ... see how towards the end, 4:07, they still try to steer the conversation back to the old narrative of IP theft again. THese people will only believe it when cheap imports from China starts to drop and price of what use to be cheap starts to increase sharply and inflation starts to grip the economy. These people took for granted when have a good thing going for them ......
And to consider the core of the issue, I think the "old narrative" that needs to be rethought is the idea that it's a good idea for the US to accept bad trade situations because they can be thought of as investments into the liberalization of the trading partners' economies and governments. That doctrine breaks down with China both because of the scale of the Chinese economy and because the different situation of China's society and government. It is time to pursue a fair deal.
*News Muse* If you are going to make a comment do some research first instead of talking *SO MUCH SHIT* The stealing of intellectual property is state policy in China.
How does the fact that Apple sells $45B of its products in China benefits USA? It benefits Apple and China, not the US. And Apple even refused to repatriate its earnings so it would not pay US taxes. Either Apple moves its manufacturing for the US market to the US, or it should be hit with high duties. Same goes for other American multinationals. Of course, they will make an argument that by selling Chinese made phones they're keeping prices low. However, why not pay higher salaries instead and letting people who now will have more money buy an American made iPhone? Apple is nothing more than a greedy multinational pretending that it cares, it only cares about Apple.
Yep, China's banks are failing, yen is being devalued again and again, there stock market is on the verge of collapsing . etc. while the USA is setting 40 year records in growth and prosperity.
@@garymccann62 That's many americans think. Those Americans companies and farmers who are affected by the trade war, they know the truth. China didnt have nothing 20y ago. They came from 0 to the top. Trade war is just a lil scratch for them. China has a president for life and Trump only for 4y. China has enough time for this long game and you dont! 40y records in growth in the U.S?! Thats actually your guys national debts!! It's skyrocketing!! 😅😅 Your president keeps printing the $USD bills out of thin air.
Dan Arbess is absolutely correct in his analysis of China..China outlined their plan to evolve to a consumer based economy and it is doing so. USA only accounts for less than 20% of China's trade. It was manufacturing for mostly US companies that sourced for cheaper labor in China...like Apple...so..the real culprit of so called "stealing jobs" from America are the US companies...truth is...US stock market drives US companies to seek cheaper labor outside of America...increasing profits and dividends to shareholders..DOW JONES is the cause of USA's woes.
China's peaceful rise is mostly because of Chinese physiology! Chinese always pursue harmony both in society and family from Confucius era (/kənˈfjuːʃəs/ kən-FEW-shəs;[1] 551-479 BC). In modern days, different ideologies, different societies, different cultures and even different interests if they can peacefully coexist and each can have their full play, Chinese regard that is the beauty of Harmony! You may see China named our bullet train as Hexie Hao. Inside China, we have 56 ethnic groups, all contributed to our glorious civilization history! Buddhism, Islam, Christianity, Confucianism, Taoism and Judaism peacefully coexist in China for thousand years! Outside China, as a secular country, China can peacefully coexist with Muslim countries, Buddhism countries, Christian countries ans secular countries! Chinese make wealth through hard-working instead of war/colonizing! Along the Silk Road beginning in the Han dynasty (207 BCE-220 CE) Chinese brought prosperity to countries along the road instead of war/colonizing!
The old man CNBC host is hopeless and clueless......in every CNBC program that I have ever watched, I have never ceased to be amazed by his urge to speak, more importantly, I have never ceased to be amazed by his ignorance
I don't know why so many people are supplying excuses for China's clearly competitive performance. If the US has to survive as the leading power, it has to take the kind of actions it took. Do the Western experts like the one shown on screen really want the US to play a subservient, to China, role in the world?
Of course they want to become independent (but I doubt they would allow trade deficits). But if they do those things (become a consumer economy, etc) by stealing American innovation and damaging the long-term prospects of the American economy, is that a good thing for the US? And once they become more independent then what recourse will there be if they decide to keep their trade surpluses?
This guy is just BS. As of Sept 5, 2018.. The Dow is up 5.08 % YTD; the Hang Seng Index is down 8.94% YTD; and the Shanghai SE Composite Index is down 18.23% YTD. The Yuan is falling against the dollar, now to 6.84. China is having capital flight. Chinese people are big on saving, and many have lost their life savings. Shadow banking, poor quality loans to the government and corruption is a major problem. Labor costs have risen dramatically. Orders to Chinese producers have fallen to new lows, and unemployment levels of migrant farm workers have risen. Many older and the unemployed are returning to the countryside. The Chinese Communists are attempting to resume control of the government again. On top of all the problems, the USA is balancing trade by using tariffs. The communists have stuck their nose in the air, and refuse to work with the US, and are destroying all the gains made by the Chinese people. China has decided to claim half the world as its own, has stolen land from India and Tibet, and has claimed half of the worlds oceans as their own soverign territory when the international courts have ruled against them. China is attempting to use North Korea as a nuclear war proxy when the rest of the world knows better. Except for all these problems, China is doing just fine. China is headed down hill, and I'm afraid there is no way to stop them. That is what they want. They are cutting their own throats.
Oh, and China is cutting off their supply of food by using tariffs against US agricultural products. That is just short sighted and says what the communists think of their workers. Stopping soy shipments will stop the production of meat products in China.
Capital needs market to grow. That's the basis of capitalism. The US market is already saturated, that's why you see companies like Apple, GE, GM, etc saw huge profit growth in China instead of back home. That's the same reason why China is investing heavily in Africa. When you are kicked out of those market, growth will tank, and there will be a lot of firing not just at the site of production but the whole enterprise support structure.
Uhhh our economy is based off of consumption, so we need trade to create jobs in this country, unless you want to compete against the global competition out there, and get stomp because they don't really play by all the rule.
Dan Arbess is totally wrong : China is NOT an indepepndent economy and NEVER will be. They have to import a) Food , they can't grow enough to feed themselves b) Energy , they are energy poor c) They need to export , which makes up 40% of GDP By contrast the US is independent. a) energy independent , a net exporter b) food independent , a net exporter c) They are not wholly reliant on exports which make up 23% of GDP
vinm300 they're turning their deserts into farmlands, transitioning to nuclear and solar energy, as for export they are slowly turning their products good enough and affordable enough to be consume domestically.
@@s1399518 Trade is the source of wealth. Iran has had sanctions imposed so it can't trade and the economy is dying. Trade is essential. China requires trade to exist : to feed the people and to import fuel. The USA exports food, and exports fuel. That is the difference, The US has just built 19 Virginia class nuclear submarines to blockade China (if necessary). Which would cripple China's economy and bring down the CCP. A blockade would be the end of Communist China.
